Being a bedroom guitarist I've found that one of my biggest songwriting challenges has been the lack of lyrics. Melodies and everything else can get away with being exactly the same each time through when the lyrics change because it's saying something new. Take the lyrics away and you have to say something new with the music itself. Lately my technique for that has been to write a harmony for my verse riffs. I'll play the riff by itself, the harmony by itself, and then play them together on two different tracks. It lets me say the same thing (the verse riff) in a different way each time to keep the song engaging and fresh. Another hurdle has been drums. I'm absolutely horrible at programming them and I can't afford to pay someone to drum for my songs. That's usually the thing that halts my progress when I've finished tracking my guitars and bass

You're trucking along and pushing forward, and that's what matters the most! Each time you walk into your studio you get a little better at it all. For drums, if you have EZ Drummer, grab one of their metal packs and just use the loops that best fit your riffs. That will make things easier.

@@metalmastermind I'll second EZ Drummer. Makes it super easy for solo artists (hence the name).

Jason, I have been subscribed for a while now and I wanted to thank you for all of the videos you put out on these topics. Your wisdom really resonates with me and I appreciate the topics you cover, which I have always struggled to find direction on for my songwriting. You're doing the world a huge favour by sharing your knowledge, and touching on truths that may not be easy to hear but are incredibly insightful and helpful. \m/ thanks a million :)

An issue I have recording/writing a song us I don't go in with a clear mind. I begin to stress myself out. When in the studio (that I've gone to) it has been a stressful environment. So that sucks.

It could be something as simple as changes things around in our studio (I kind of need to do that as well). Make it a visual environment that brings out your creativity. This could be posters of bands or quotes that inspire you. If the stress comes from a musical aspect, we have a complete metal songwriting course that can help you continuously break out of that rut: metalmastermind.com/metal-songwriters-forge/
