1) I disagree. (How dare you disagree w me) 2) you hurt me. (Your needs trigger them) Gaslighting. Defensiveness. Denying. Lying. 3) I need space (fear of abandonment. They see it as rejection) 4) You are being selfish. (They don’t see themselves this way. Sensitive to criticism) 5) I’m done/walking away. (Huge trigger. Toxic meltdown or guilt trip

Dad caused me a lot of trauma, and when I complained, he invalidated my complaint "You misinterpreted what I said". Not true. His blaming me for the abuse he caused(still does) me. Jerkwad! I am not in contact with him, he is toxic to me. His problematic attitude, his fault, all of it!

You literally just described my ex lol. I remember I said agree to disagree about a tv show we were watching. She gave me the silent treatment for 3days straight. At the time it messed me up. Being more knowledgeable about narcissism I put it together. She acted like a child cause I disagreed to something so simple that wasn’t even reality lol

The trick is don't ever tell the narcissist: "I'm done. It's over," in person. You can write them a note, a text or an email. Just walk away and then block them from being able to communicate with you. Who needs the drama? I know I don't.

It will always be just one thing that they said that they think caused you to leave, not their selfishness, lying, cheating, drug involvement and other stuff that bothers you. In their mind they are perfect, and so if you leave them then you are a bad friend.

My ex-husband was.a narcissist and I am co-dependent. My 32 and 33 year old sons are both narcissists which I certainly helped to create. I started getting better about 3 years ago and told them they had to talk to me with respect and they haven't talked to me since. Actually, it was a really good thing for me! I understand what you mean about your son. There are no perfect parents and they had a much better childhood than I did. They belong to the Universe, not me.

I can think of a few other circumstances... Holding them accountable. Telling the truth. Remaining calm and NOT getting upset when they try to bait and gaslight you into a fight. I spent 34 with my covert wife and now my body, soul and spirit are drained. My body hurts all over from the decades of stress and trying to work out "simple" problems. Most of my life savings were depleted going to doctors which proved mostly useless. Thank you! Rebecca Zung for the valuable information you provide. I'm almost 58 years old and I don't know how or where to start in pursuing romance but, I'm grateful to be alive after this ordeal. I have known others in these horrible and abusive relationships who did not make it out intact. Take care and God bless you. Jeffrey Z. in SC

Okay. I understand that the 5-phrases to pizz-off a narcissist are: 1.) "I disagree with you." 2.) "You hurt me." 3.) "I need space." 4.) "You're being selfish." 5.) "I'm done." LOL. My older brother is a pathological liar and narcissist. I am going to put him in his place in front of the whole extended family when I see him again. He tries every day to control me and the more he tries the more I DO what I want, I go on vacations without him knowing I just pack my bags and leave him when he’s asleep, last year I left for a month and a half, and he took revenge on my things and my room so I left the room just as he destroyed it, it was a year in March so each time he walks past the room its a reminder of what he has done, I can’t leave him because of money 💵 but I’m planning to leave, I have lived with this kind of situation since I was a child so what he say or do doesn’t matter and he can’t understand how I’m taking all of his bull crap 💩, I believe in God and I know that I’m protected in more ways than one, God is the answer Amen 🙏🏼

Rebecca, First I have to Thank You for your work. I am a Disabled Senior male who was deceived for many years. Married for 44 years 10 months. Not knowing what was being done to me through the years. My Love was 18 years when I married her. It was not until now that we (my sister who was hated by my wife all those years) discovered documents going back to 1979 that my Bride started to hide her income. Also she was stealing money, my jewelry, my inherited family valuables. I don't know if she was thinking our marriage was just a temporary situation. Our Divorce proceedings are passing the one year mark. My wife is still refusing to disclose her assets. This is of course causing me to spend all the savings I have. Her technique is too make me get to the the end of my savings, and that would cause me to settle leaving her the stolen assets she had accumulated. ( My unsuspected Ace in the whole is my Sister, My wife never dreamed I had an ally in my Sister, and my Sister offered to pay for the Forensic Audit)

This sounds eerily familiar. My mom (narcissist) kept telling me that I was being too sensitive, when I wasn't, which was REALLY annoying. Of course, the constant gaslighting. I'm SO glad that I "cut" her loose, blocked her from being able to communicate with me and I've been able to move on. Because everything happened so suddenly, I wasn't completely prepared, so it's been challenging, but anything is better than being in a situation where I was constantly "walking on egg shells" & never knowing when she would go from being nice to the super bitch from Hell. Those days are over and I'm never going back.

I want to be on record as being against the idea of Narcissists' being described as a monster. I understand that you think Narcissists won't change, but everybody needs to experience unconditional love, because if the only good memory they can remember is how they felt loved, that's a good thing. I try to see people as Jesus sees, not who they are now, because l believe that Jesus accepts us just as we are, some people think they have to clean up their life first, not so.
