WARNING to all... the color change trick will mess with your stitch count. After many trial-and-error attempts...I've concluded that you have to "continue as usual" starting in the stitch you went from behind in. So grab that loop from the inside, but when you continue, start in that same stitch, or else you'll be short a stitch for every color change.

No it doesn't. You're doing something wrong if it does, such as inserting your hook into the wrong space, thus creating an extra stitch. I made the same mistake when I first learned the technique some years ago... Though I use a different one now that creates a perfectly straight line color change, verses the little peaks that show in a classic color change.

@@gwendolynsantiago2091I believe they’re referring to one where you Do the standard “last pull through with new color” thing Then insert and on that yarn over use the color of whatever stitch you just went into Pull through and yarn over again with your new color Pull through and repeat, and now you have a clean color change instead of the lil triangles of color I don’t know if I explained that well and I havent used it myself too many times 😅 but you could probably find a good color change tutorial somewhere on the internet if you look hard enough :)

Thank you for the tips regarding the rounded head vs. pointed head, the color change, and the yo vs. yu; all very helpful. But I would like to mention to anyone who is new to amigurumi that the Magic Ring is much better to use once mastered because then you don’t have an obvious hole that the alternative has, which can result in the stuffing coming out of your project.

Truly excellent tips. Thank you! Definitely going to try the color change method--I deplore the jags, and typically do the F.O., cut, start new color method, to eliminate them. But it's SO time-consuming, especially if your color changes every other row! Glad I saw your method. For YO v. YU in amigurumi, I actually do the Yarn Under for the 1st half of the stitch, and a Yarn Over for the final step of the stitch. It's not quite as compact as doing YU for both steps, but it certainly has drastically improved the look of my amigurumi projects (i.e., no stuffing showing through). The modified form of stitch tightens up your amigurumi, without it being so tight (especially if you're using cotton) that your hand, arm, and neck ache from the extremely tight tension that the both-step-YU method can cause.

I've had great success with removing the conehead. I also found I could fix a too-steep cone by increasing the size of my hook. With regard to pulling closed a MR with chenille yarn, I learned this from a different YT: pull the centre yarn the wrong way first, just a little. Most of the time it will then pull closed smoothly.

The solution to the cone head is so simple i love it. The yarn over and under when you demoed the yarn under you yarned under the first time but then to pull the yarn through the loops you yarned over. Was that on purpose or was that a mistake? All the other tutorials I've seen yarn under both times so I was wondering.
@reigningcharmz10 ай бұрын
That’s a great question! When I learned the difference between the two, it was the first part that was different, but then you always yarned over to pull through the loops on both methods. I’m not sure if it makes a difference to do yarn under on both the first and the second part. I’ll have to test it out for the next video!
