Tbh I think the right pair of glasses would look amazing on you, specially because you like to wear a short stubble and the glasses could create some intrest in the mid area in your face. I wouldn't go with something to dark because your hair are in the dark-blond area and your eye and skin color are light too. A pair of Aviators, wayfare in light brown horn or half half rim glasses would probably fit you.

I've been wearing overcoats since my 20s and I love them, and they've always been other than plain (mostly herringbone), so I disagree that your first overcoat should be in solid colour - dark grey herringbone for example is an equally safe and great-looking choice.

Last year I acquired a vintage 100% cashmere charcoal gray overcoat for $30. It had hardly been worn, and I was able to get a lot of use out of it this winter. I have been looking to buy a proper walking umbrella, and I understand how it can be a rabbit hole! It's good to know someone else shares my desire for a good umbrella. Keep up the great content.

Yes, too many say that pea coats are acceptable substitutes for more proper coat styles. A car coat is the short option more befitting and the duffle coat is the more proper heavy go-to. BUT a lot of the coats now don't come big enough roomy to fit over other suiting and such, either.

For those who have attended a prep school, college or university (public or private), do not overlook purchasing the actual school tie. Most institutions in the US offer these, often through their bookstore or alumni office. May I suggest attention to belts and buckles as well.

Where I disagree with you is on the elbow patches and fake glasses. There reason old academics have elbow patches is because they have worn their beloved tweed jacket for many years and would rather patch the worn-out elbows than give up their treasured tweed. So they get them patched, as a utilitarian solution, rather than a contrived "look". (Alternative explanation, they don't go shopping much and would rather renew there old clothes than buy anew.) And wearing fake glasses just to look studious is idiotic (and inconvenient). A gentleman should always be authentic - fake glasses are like a fake watch. You will know the difference even if others don't, and if they do, then you are branded as a poseur.

About accessories, you neglected to mention book bags, briefcases or messenger bags, which offer "academic style" men more options for self-expression than traditional briefcases do for businessmen. As for ties, those are increasingly uncommon in academia (and have been for decades) so your Dark Academic better not design his wardrobe around wearing ties. Your fisherman's knit sweater is okay, but there are many more ways to use sweaters (especially sweater vests) to vary this look.

I like ties in my outfits, and have started incorporating bow ties as well. I almost never go without something around my neck reminding me of mortality, and I do it my way and for no one else. Same reason I shave every morning with a straight razor.

Dark Academia seems rather close to Ivy League. While I like vintage style, I'd say I am more drawn towards the English Country style. So my cable knit sweater is not like the thin one in Part 1 but rather an ivory colour heavy cable knit sweater handmade in Ireland.

I understand that glasses are a definite style piece. Unfortunately, a lot of men in the public eye, particularly those found providing political commentary appear to be going for glasses with brightly colored plastic frames. These are creepy and have an unavoidable soupcon of the child molester. One imagines the owner offering to let children play with them. Shades or clear glasses with brightly colored frames have their place - New Year's Eve parties, gag photos at weddings, Hallowe'en even. Regular day to day wear for adult men is, well, unappealing in the extreme.
