Nice work Paulie! Interesting to see you spend time at the fair in a similar vein to Winogrand during the 60s/70s. Also good to see local photographer Will in the video as well, big ups!

Another amazing video. Thanks Paulie! If I ever get to visit the USA, my priorities are NYC, a rodeo and a state fair.

Sucks that Andrew got kicked out a few times - I shoot rodeo often and depending on the organizer/association they can be very strict about who goes where. Protip - if you attend a rodeo again, wear full western gear. Cowboy hat, boots, jeans, tucked in long sleeve button up shirt. That plus a camera, nobody will ever give you shit. In my experience as long as it’s not a PRCA rodeo you’ll be fine. I almost never have credentials, but as long as I’m wearing proper attire they don’t question my presence.

Great to have you in my hometown, sorry about the bureaucrats and pseudo-cops who take what little power they're given and let it go to their head. Great episode, almost made me want to go to the fair....ALMOST! 😂

Rodeo photographers don't play around. You have to have the PRCA certification and its not easy to obtain, which is why they got onto you about not having the right credentials. I think there's less than 100 certified photographers allowed to shoot the pro rodeo circuit.

Yeah the PRCA is a PITA. Luckily they aren’t the only pro rodeo organization and the others, depending on how small, can be pretty chill.

@@jb.photography yeah, I shoot local NBHA barrel races and those are a lot of fun...and interesting when you get a kid on a horse that doesn't want to behave and you're shooting inside the arena.

Smart getting a media pass! Does the fair expect you guys to give them photos for marketing? Or what questions did they ask in order to give you two passes?

Sorry, I get that the VIP section is off limits. If it's the rules and those who are there expect that, I think this should be respected.
@AndrwshootsАй бұрын
It wasn’t the rules. It was a surprise to us that we were not allowed in there. Crazy to me that there are people commenting in support of authority giving no explanation as to why my all access media pass doesn’t allow for taking a couple pictures in an area that has no reason to be so overly protected. If the VIP section was serving food, drinks, had special privilege of any kind… sure, but it was literally just a different seating area. Hard to have an accurate opinion on this if you weren’t there.
@dylancole8191Ай бұрын
Repeatedly crossing boundaries they've set at events like these just makes them more defensive towards us photographers that live here. I completely understand the impulse to push against rules that feel arbitrary and against people who truly don't know why the line in the sand was drawn, but it does harm the community writ large. Access is always given, not taken. Great video and solid work otherwise
@AndrwshootsАй бұрын
Are you suggesting that by me having a full access photo pass, while not being told that we were prohibited from accessing areas that should be media friendly, that I’m harming the photographers of Dallas Texas’ ability to what… try to photograph areas of the fair that they had no knowledge of being off limits? I would argue that by not questioning authority, especially when no reasons are being given via a civil conversation, it gives security all the more power to shut down photographers with proper credentials l, and with no explanation. This is happening more and more with photojournalists being arrested, physically abused, etc. I never “took” access, we were given access and then told “actually no, not here, even though security let you in”. This is a silly thing to get into over KZbin comments because it’s so situational, and I would hope most people would stand up for themselves and try to understand why a simple VIP area for viewing a rodeo is “absolutely off limits”.
@dylancole8191Ай бұрын
@@Andrwshoots I think you're well within your right to question the first time, but to me the difference is when you go back the second day and get heated when you're recognized and kicked out sooner. I really wasn't intending on starting an argument in the comment section, just sharing my perspective as someone who lives here. Photography would be rather boring if we all shared the same perspective :)
@AndrwshootsАй бұрын
again though, getting heated for not being told why - and this time at a totally different area than the day prior that was also not specified to us as off limits. Paul and I were there with no issues the first time, they were just curious about what we were shooting for and let us continue. Then when I went back on my own, that’s when they threatened to kick me out of the fair. It was a totally different vibe than when we were there a couple hours earlier. The rules were conditional on their end and inconsistent, which is frustrating when you’ve specifically flown to a city to make photographs, with a media pass.
