I need to do reservations in the hostel all long the way? I've walked the way of saint james in 2018. I think of going on this journey throught Japan

It is recommended to make reservations as sometimes the accomodations are booked out. You can find diffent accomodations and book them directly on the homepage of the Tanabe City Kumano Tourism Bureau: www.kumano-travel.com/en/accommodations

Nice video, I am planning to travel through the Nakahechi trail next year, but I will be on a limited budget and wanted to know how you planned how many days and to where would you be able to achieve each day? I am having a hard time determining which cities I will get an accommodation and how long it will take from each point in the trail

Hi. Thanks for your comment! The official site was a good resource for planning with detailed maps available: www.tb-kumano.jp/en/kumano-kodo/nakahechi/. I did a lot of research on that site and planned it roughly accordingly. Like there are difficulty ratings for each route and how long about it takes and how exhausting it might be and you see the elevation gain. Also there are so many nice places to visit and where you can stay a little longer and take a rest. So planning in a bit more time is okay, I think. Like this my planning was working out quite okay in the end. I was able to visit the Onsen in Yunomine, which I really wanted to. I planned the distance on how much I am able to usually walk in a day. And then made sure there was enough time for sightseeing and taking everything in as well.

Great video, what are the most beautiful sections ?
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
Every section had its own charm, but I would say the sections from Takahara to Hongu Taisha were the most beautiful and interesting as it had the most sights and biggest variety. I also enjoyed the wilderness and emptyness between Hongu Taisha and Nachisan, with a few sights in between.

Beautifull video! can you tell me the name of this specific route?
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
Thank you. :) It was the Nakahechi Route from Tanabe to Hongu to Nachisan.

Is it easy to find the good way ? I'm planning to do it alone in January so I don't want to be lost in the Japan mountains in winter aha! Did you bring maps with you, google maps works maybe ? Thank you, nice video ! :)

I found the signs pretty good to follow. Only one time in one of the towns I was not quite sure, but quickly found the way. If you pay attention you definitely will find the way. I did not bring a special map, but only got the tourist maps from the tourist information. I think they were quite sufficient as it is a populated area and not complete wilderness. I did mark some of the route points on Google maps in my way, as I had the same concern, haha. But I did not use them in the end. I think Google maps is not that detailed in the area.

Did you seen anyone camp near the trail? I'm curious because I'll be camping...no reservations left at most of the hostels and ryokan :(
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cherie, yes, I saw some signs of camping on the trail (some scattered stones, that looked completely random on first sight, but all had their purpose). Apart from that I did not see anyone. But I think as long as you are careful and respectful to your surroundings and find a suitable spot, it will be great. Enjoy the time. :)

What time frame exactly were you there to see this beautiful fall color?
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
I started on the 26th of November 2017. I was surprised the fall colours were still that vivid.

@@abenteuerlichereisen thank you for the reply. That is great news! I was planning to go in the April/May timeframe, but had to postpone due to "Golden Week" when the coronation of the new emperor takes place. So maybe I will try again in November. Thanks!

Yes, I think November is a good time to go. The temperatures were pleasant. The nights were chilly, but during the sunny days and with the exercise it was quite warm. I could even walk in a t-shirt some times.

I’m hoping to make this trek in the coming weeks, any hope there’s accommodation left along the way? Also is it ever possible to get accommodation here without a reservation? Great vid, I’m very excited for this!
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
That's so awesome that you go! It is really great. I also went around this time. It's really great. I assume there should still be accommodation available as it was not really busy at this time of the year. Of course I would recommend booking in advance as it might be that the accommodation you want to go for has no space available. Then you might have to go to the next town. I found that the places in this rural area close pretty early. If you don't book on advance I would advise to reach the places you want to stay very early so that youv still have enough time to go to the next town. Also the tourist information can help you to book the accommodation for you.

And where are pilgrimages? Looks like you are the last surviving person in the whole area.
@abenteuerlichereisen5 жыл бұрын
Haha, yes, I hardly met anyone on the route. In total only something like 7 other single or couple pilgrims and 2 groups.
