What if my reference point isnt an existing wall but an abstract reference point that exists purely on the drawing? In this video its fine because your original reference point for the basement is the corner of the building (an existing wall), so when you create your second storey the corner of the building is still present ergo your reference point. If however your reference point isnt a wall but purely a mark on the drawing it wont show and it is impossible to match the drawings up. I hope im wrong and there is a solution

Hi Steve jobs ! I thought you're dead! lool Well, listen, as for your question, I didn't understand 100% what you wanna say by that, but you'll have to find a reference, like a corner, stairs... Something that is on the same X and Y axis in the two plans!
