I think WAY more DIY videos should use this format. Going through several iterations with varied skill level is such a useful way to go about it. I've seen many tutorials that were either at absolute beginners level or full on technical expertise, when I was actually looking for something inbetween. Thank you SO MUCH for this.

If you'd like an alternative handle, give cabinet knobs a try. Sometimes you can find plain wooden ones in a pack of 4 or 6 for not a lot, or even a crystal glass variety. Your detailing of the clay method has solved a puzzle I've had for a while; namely, a method that would let me use the design on an existing coin as a seal. Bravo!

The video is great, 5⭐️. but “DIY” should have an asterisk nowadays. Maybe it should say “DIY if you have a wood turning lathe, a belt sander, a bench grinder etc…” But EXCELLENT job on that sliding lock using the shell casings. Masterful.

👌😄 *Excellent!! For another 'beginner level' metal one, perhaps could try punching the desired seal design down into a metal bottle cap? Don't punch all the way through, but just deep enough that the wax has a proper channel to go into; enough that the design will show up. Tfs!!* ☺️👍

@NickMartinelliTV
@NickMartinelliTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes! The reason why I prefer a stone or porcelain is for heat dissipation, baking paper takes a long time for the wax to solidify enough to stamp. If you're doing a run for wedding invites you'd want the granite and save an hour or two

I´ve been meaning to get/make a custom wax seal stamp for the specific purpose of sealing letters. How would you go about it since you make the wax seals in a way that they will be detached from the surface you stamp them on? (in your case, granite) Would you make the wax seals AND then glue them to the letters? With what kind of glue? More wax?
@NickMartinelliTV
@NickMartinelliTV 3 жыл бұрын
I have found that the wax is almost identical to hot glue. You can make your seals then attach with hot glue, the two will melt together sealing your letter. You could also use the wax as well

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do with the wax that's left in the spoon? Do you just peel it off and reuse it? I've been wondering that because it's a little hard to get every bit to pour.
@labaccident2010
@labaccident2010 3 жыл бұрын
You can reuse it in addition to more wax with the next stamp if you leave it in the spoon. Alternatively, if you want to get rid of it and not mix colors, using a folded paper towel to clean out the spoon also works.

@NickMartinelliTV
@NickMartinelliTV 2 жыл бұрын
The clay used in the video is premo sculpey, If the stamp is sticking there is 3 things to check for: 1. Make sure that the stamp is cool before stamping and the wax has fully cooled down before removing the stamp (freezer works if you're impatient) 2. make sure your stamp is as smooth and clean as possible (scratches and debris can make the wax stick to the stamp) 3. use an oil as a release agent to keep the wax from sticking (reapply every few successful stamps) Hope this helps, -Nick

I'd Oil the stamp with olive oil if they're not completely smooth any sort of roughness will make them stick so if they have already been baked you could try sanding them with a very fine grit then oiling them You could also chill the stamp in the freezer or on ice before use...the difference in temperature should help it release Hope this helps
