Yes I modeled Halloween Costumes back in 2009... yes that's a MC Hammer Costume...... and yes I would do it again! haha Guys, hammer Curls are a GREAT addition to any arm workout! BUT, they should never take the place of a standard curl whether using a barbell or dumbbells. This is because the hammer curl is not a biceps focused movement! It actually places more emphasis on the brachialis and the brachialradialis. But that is just MISTAKE #1! Tune in to make sure you are not making any more so you can MAXIMIZE YOUR GAINS! *FULL WORKOUT PROGRAMS! - **muscularstrength.com/Full-Workout-Programs*

Gotta love how you never really burn down other people's vision on these kind of exercises, but more or less nuance them (often with common sense)! Imo, this helps people understand what type of movements do what and pick the right one. I never realized that performing the curls standing upright would shift some energy to the core, versus doing them sitting down to really focus on the arm muscles. Simply because I never gave it any thought, thanks and keep up the good work!

#3 and #4 are great if you want to focus exclusively on biceps, but don't you think most people would benefit from the additional core workout provided by standing double arm curls? I don't do a lot of specific core exercises because of lack of time, so I rely on some of these workouts to engage the core. I guess it's ok as long as I am able to improve, since these aren't mistakes that can cause injury, just less optimized if the goal is to specifically focus on biceps/brachialis.

I haven't done hammer curls in a few months. Really hurts in my brachioradalius, and the tendon into the elbow. I think I hurt it doing some cheat and recover bicep curls. And it doesn't help that I tend to use that hammer curl style grip at work all the time. But when I heal,I must remember to grab the dumbbell at the top! Makes sense and never realized that. In fact, changing the grip may be enough to reduce the pain I currently feel. Thanks Scott!

Curling for Muscle Building - important to overload the muscle by lifting heavier weights. If the goal is muscle gain, you want to be able to lift as much as possible and this can be better achieved with alternate arms and seated. 0:53 1. Hammer Curl is not a Bicep Curl. Targets mainly brachialis and brachioradialis. Don’t replace a biceps focused movement with hammer curls. You need to do them both. 1:35 2. Do Full ROM and Controlled Negatives. Don’t cheat curls as you will lose mind-muscle connection. 2:04 Proper Form - fully flexed triceps at the bottom, keeping elbows in front of hips as you curl up and flexing your biceps as hard as you can at the top. 2:48 3. Don’t curl both arms at the same time. Requires more core control and can’t lift as much as alternate arms. Alternate Arms Form - Grip DB tight at bottom and keep the triceps flexed to fully stretch biceps. 4:53 4. Grip DB at the top of the handle - gripping in the middle wastes energy on grip strength. 5:31 5. Perform the movement Seated and not Standing - standing requires more core control for stability.

Hey @ScottHermanFitness I have two questions. 1. How exactly do you breath with your stomach while flexing your abs? ... Most of my life I was wrongly breathing with my lungs only until recently and now that I know how to breath properly, I have difficulty figuring out how to do it while flexing my abs when doing reps. Do I inhale, flex then exhale? Even that is hard to do. Plus I have ADHD so it's hard to focus on that while counting reps, haha. 2. My physio just stated that my posture is now fixed but I still can't do a full squat ass to grass as the back barbell squat because I start leaning backwards. My butt/lower back starts to turn when I go past 90 degrees which isn't recommended anyway. I think you call that the butt wink, right? Is there a problem or would front squats work for me since I can do ass to grass squats fine with no weights at all when I stretch my arms out in front of me.

Scott 6:00, but if you perform it standing you would be able to "cheat" the overload on the way up, enabling you to get more overloaded reps on the way down, no?

You can still cheat the overload on the way up when seated. If anything you should be able to put more energy into the swing because you dont have to worry about balancing like you would when standing. 👍🏻🤗

Great video! Scott, I am a 19 year old male who just started weight training. My goal is to gain the maximum amount of muscle and make the most of what people call nubee gains. So my question is, is weight training in a fasted state good for making maximum muscle gains and also to losse fat at the same time, since nubee's tend to loose fat and build muscle at the same time? ( if I am to eat before training, can u please give some suggestions other than supplements since I am not able to afford any kind of supplement) And the other thing is am I to eat in a maintenance calorie amount since I am a nube?
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
Fasted training is more personal preference. Some people can do it, others need a lot of food before training. It won’t really affect your ability to lose fat, that all comes down to your macros. Like you say, as a beginner you can probably basically do both no matter what times of the day you eat, as long as you’re not in a massive surplus.

So when curling both weights at the same time, I heard it is twice as difficult because the core is supporting double weight. Though I think it is more simple than that and it is because the body is sending blood to both biceps and contracting them at the same time making it twice as difficult. Is this what you think? Your opinion means a lot to me. Your channel makes more sense to muscle gainers. I notice that I can lift far more with one arm or leg as well. Once again great video.
@ScottHermanFitness6 жыл бұрын
I would say it’s mainly the core to be honest. Because you lift more weight when doing say a barbell bench press or barbell squat when using both arms or legs, compared to if you were working with just one arm or leg.
