What about just a west facing window for a whale fin. Does it have to be outside? Just wondering if humidity had something to do with it growing bigger. I have just purchased a whale fin and it’s leaves are curled at the bottom. I am open to suggestions! I live in Fl so I could easily move it outside if needed.

@@infinite_vibez1298 mine are in full / partial sun. Kentucky is probably every bit as hot and humid during the summer months. I put them out in late April or May and I tend to pull them in when temperatures drop below 50 for more than a few nights in a row oh, so around here that could be anywhere from late September to late October. If you live in Florida I don't know why it couldn't live outside all year round as long as it doesn't get too wet especially when the weather is cooler below say 40 degrees

I have 2 micans. One of them has a random, long vine. And it’s odd because the leaves get bigger and bigger farther down the vine, which is opposite of what we usually see. I really should chop and prop it, but I kind of like the weird vine. Gives is character.

Luna Maxwell , mine seem to do well in medium light. I let the soil dry almost all the way before I water.

I would add that the Peperomia Obtusifolia Variegata is hella easy! Put it in a bright window and leave it. They do so well even of you barely water them! I also have a Dracaena Marginata that barely needs any attention.

I appreciate that you acknowledged the new genus classification of snake plants... I went to a garden shop and an employee literally was crying and almost scolding me when we were having a conversation about common names and I mentioned how the snake plants moved over to Dracaena. Maybe it’s easier for me since I’m a newer houseplant parent but Ive fully accepted the change in my plant language. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have a Dracaena fragrans that is very low-maintenance and lush and tall. It survived getting its stalk chewed on by a rodent over a year ago and it has come back so strong that it's now a shade plant for my (beloved) high maintenance fern

ZZs are super expensive where I live too! Most plants are a liiittle bit more expensive in Canada, and especially right now, but I`ve never seen one for less than 30-45 bucks! I find that my lipstick plant blooms like crazy with no encouragement whatsoever, and communicates when it`s thirsty too. True straightforward MVP.

I read that Costa Farms patented Raven ZZs so others can't sell them. Basically to sell a ZZ, shops have to buy them from Costa Farms. That may be a reason why they are so expensive

Just want to clarify: Philodendron micans is not an epiphyte. It is a scandent plant. Scandent plants are plants that use aerial roots to climb or plants that use vines that twirl around a surface. An epiphytic plant is a plant that gets its moisture and nutrients from the air. Examples of epiphytic plants are orchids, bromeliads, and tilandsia (air plants).

Have a ZZ, not sure which variety but its an easy one to grow indeed. It's gotten to be a 2-3' tall with tons of new growth and I've also started one from a cutting. Mine was a small one to start, 4-5 dollars. Gosh been years since I've had an air plant.

How do you keep the white patina from building up on your terra-cotta pots? I used to hate that look but have embraced it because I don’t know how to clean them and, honestly, have never tried. Also, I love the shake of your terra-cotta pots. Where do you shop for them?

If you water with filtered water you shouldn’t get too much. I don’t really worry about it, though, because I like the look of that. I get mine from local nurseries!! The fun shaped ones (like the whale fin) are often a bit more, like $10 as opposed to $2-3 for a regular shape.
