I changed from the roller style. Much better, the Warn Rope is the best. I bought 2 from Amazon for 80-100.00 they broke quickly. Warn was 170.00 and it’s working great with no sign of ware.

I recommend using a 24” wear sleeve over the end of the synthetic rope and you will greatly reduce rope wear.

You should incorporate a pulley into your connection to your plow run your rope down to the pulley connected at the plow then run your hook up to a tow strap on your front rack

But why?..i never under stood the reasoning behind a pulley on an atv plow setup. The plow really is not that heavy, winch does not need any mechanical advantage that a pulley would provide. And why put stress on the front rack its not designed for that type of load vector or type of activity. Polaris front racks are not that solid. The rubber latches will break from doing this. Honestly makes zero sense to me, but please explain why you feel its necessary

For the synthetic rope wear issue, don't you simply cut the first 18" of worn out rope when it's not good anymore?
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 2 жыл бұрын
yes thats one way of dealing with it. But do that a few times now you are loosing length which is critical in recovery situations.

Yes you can, use Utube to show you how to thread the rope and make a loop

Good video. I seriously considered a synthetic rope. It has some advantages, but after more consideration it seems to have a longer list of inconveniences. You have to be concerned about getting it dirty when it touches the ground. Dirt degrades the fibers You also have to be concerned about getting it wet. If it gets dirty then you're supposed to wash it and now it's wet. And you're supposed to allow it to dry before winding it up. If it gets wet on the spool you're supposed to unwind it and let it dry. I hear the people are replacing them more often than wire rope. And sunlight isn't good for rope either. What a pain. For me I'm mostly using it for lifting my snow plow. In that application steel is fine. The rare time that I use it to winch I will simply be careful to stay out of the way.

It's not really like rope it's more like plastic feeling rope it basically never gets dirty at least for me almost a year now and my ropes still new first thing I changed when buying my quad
@adamr8628
@adamr8628 Жыл бұрын
@@cliffmcguinness9335 I agree that it doesn't look dirty. But it gets dirt on the outside and in the fibers, just like anything does outdoors. It also gets wet. Like I said, its not supposed to stay dirty or wet. And for me it's too much of a hassle to wash it and then unroll it to dry it, or dry it after rain and snow, etc.

🏆🏆🏆👍🇺🇲🙏 Have you tried a hawse fairlead with the synthetic line? Thank you for sharing
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH 2 жыл бұрын
Yes i have I have found that the roller type fairlead is still the best because the rollers have a larger radius and is easier on the synthetic line. More of a gradual bend vs those aluminum one piece fairleads have a very small radius on the lead in /mouth which to me defeats the purpose, very sharp bend being applied on the line etc. Rollers are still more forgiving & durable in my eyes.

So I have a very similar set up to what you have but I have it on the Polaris ranger Northstar. My rope after the first three plows is already starting to look worn. Would you recommend just cutting it 25 inches up and then just keep using the same rope? Or just get a new one? Also can you share a link for the shoes you put on the bottom of the plow? Thank you

did you end up replacing the crank or just the bearings and the one rod?

Crank was thankfully not damaged. Yes all new gaskets, bearings, complete piston and rod all new. Also lightly honed the cylinder. Oil pump disassembled and cleaned it was fully clogged with vegetation lol

Most people break the wire cable/syn rope because they let the winch retrieve too much length back onto the spool, and the hook stops abruptly. 90% of the problem is due to there being too much length on the winch spool. With 50 feet of cable, the spool has a bigger diameter turning and it reels in at a fast speed. If you only have 25 feet on the spool, the retrieve is slower, and it’s more controllable. Some people just put 6 feet of cable on for the winter and change back to the 50 foot cable for the other seasons. The moral to this story is.....speed kills....
@JohnFrancoNH
@JohnFrancoNH Жыл бұрын
I agree but theres still alot of people that still use their atvs in the winter as well for normal atv activities. So for me changing out the winch line to a short one every time for plow season is a huge PITA. Would be nice if the plow frame had its own winch for lifting dutys and not relying on the atv winch.
