@gradepod Жыл бұрын
HI @shimakhalid8455 - you're moving the right direction with this, but you need to be MUCH more specific. What do you mean by velocity of an object? This is too vague. Something like "How does the depth of a ping pong ball held below the surface of water affect the velocity of the ball at a depth of 5cm, as the buoyancy force directs it back to the surface?"

Hi! I hope I get a reply on this "How does the number of turns on a coil affect the EMF induced" Or to put this in a better way "How does the number of turns on a wireless charger affect the EMF induced" ..... EMF can be measured, and so can the number of turns. Keeping in mind other variables, I can measure the magnetic strength with a gauss meter... I was wondering if this experiment is okay.
@mranguria8848 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the video. I was just wondering whether the data used for the IA must be collected by us students in the lab or whether we can use data we find on the internet to carry out our investigation. I am asking this because having to carry out the experiment ourselves obviously reduces the array of possibilities significantly and from what I am understanding from my teachers they highly recommend recording the data ourselves. What are your thoughts about this, what would you advise us to do? Thank you!
@gradepod Жыл бұрын
I highly recommend collecting the data yourself too. The research question does not have to be original, you do not have to find an amazingly different or complicated research question. Just find one that can be completed in the school laboratory (or at home) and a little bot of 'flair' or personal input can be added to the data collection to make it differ from a standard lab experiment. ALL the research questions listed here will work: www.gradepod.com/100-ib-physics-ia-ideas

@@gradepod Not yet cause I am still thinking for a Real life situation for this topic. By the way is a real-life situation necessary?
@gradepod6 жыл бұрын
@@sarasmedlife2875 - OK. A real life situation is not necessary. I would say that there is not a lot of good physics in the research question you have chosen. If you wanted to stick tot he topic of hair, you could find the width of hair using single slit diffraction and a laser. You could then investigate something like "how does the width of a hair strand (measuring using diffraction) affect the spring constant of the hair strand". It would be tricky to ensure that the same type of hair strand was used but with different widths - but not impossible.

hi! is "how do the environmental factors such as the temperature, humidity and pressure affect the wavelength of sound produced from a violin string" a good topic?
@gradepod5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ileana - this sounds like more if an EE topic, rather than an IA. If you were to pick one of the factors - it might be more suitable. E.g. "How does the temperature of a violin string affect the frequency of sound produced?" (I've chosen frequency instead of wavelength - as it's easier to measure directly from the investigation. Hope this helps.

Hey, I did an investigation on Roll-on Deodorants: "How do the different angles of incidences from the vertical (0˚, 10˚, 20˚, 30˚, 40˚, 50˚, 60˚) of a Roll-on Deodorant bottle’s rotating ball on parafilm, after it rolls a distance of 20 cm, affect the total liquid mass (g) of the deodorant?" And I have already collected some data that suggests as the angle in increased to the horizontal, more mass (g) of deodorant is dispersed, wondering for your advice on the written IA itself (i.e. conclusions, results etc...) and what could I talk about within centripetal rotational force of ball and the acceleration due to gravity of the liquid.

Hi, this video helped me a lot! Now I am thinking of doing my IB physics HL IA about finding the time constant of capacitors, since I was interested in it when in class. I am thinking of fully charging a capacitor and then discharging while measuring how voltage and current changes with time. Is finding time constant of only one capacitor enough or should I use different capacitors to investigate relationship between time constant and capacitance of a capacitor, for example? Do you have any suggestions on how I can improve this ia, or is it sufficient to get a good grade for HL physics? Any quick help would be really appreciated since I have a limited couple of days to use lab in quarantine conditions.

A ball bearing is a small steel sphere that is used to provide movement between certain surfaces. Ball bearings are manufactured in a variety of radii and are useful for physics experiments - as they are all made of the same material and have the same density.
