The hardest part still remains having the interior be good *and* functional. I build in Survival so I need my furnaces, crafting table, brewing area, enchanting area, and storage for my absurd hoarding problem all handled, and then try to pretty around it. The outsides look rad, but the insides wind up cluttered. I mean it'd probably help if I started putting that giant mass of chests for the storage in the basement, but dangit it's where I spend most of my time so it's hard not to put them in the "main room."
@Grac3AndP3ac3
@Grac3AndP3ac3 4 жыл бұрын
I have a few ideas! Okay so on concel we have barrels for storage, so what I did was I made myself a wine cellar in the basement and that holds all my stuff. As for food you can make a fridge outta dispensers and iron trap doors (down side to this is that you have to use a lever to close the trap doors you can also store it in the wine cellar if that works out better. Furnaces can be made to look like stoves by placing a deactivator rail ontop Brewing potions? Make a lab. Id personally use quarts to make tables and chairs. Anvil and crafting table? Id make either a shed or garage. Or perhaps a weapons armory or blacksmith. Enchanting I'd either put it in the living room by the fire place. Black Smith or id make a secrete hidden room for that and the neither portal. You can make secrete doors that open and close, or even hide rooms behind paintings. I hope these idea's help you
@Cheeziswin
@Cheeziswin 4 жыл бұрын
Agreed... any time I build a cool house, whether in MP or SP, everything looks nice and fancy and well made. And then you notice... there's a basement... and then THAT'S where all the actually useful gameplay things happen. Big square storage room with no decoration, things of that nature. There's almost no way to make a minecraft home both pretty and practical. Like, Grians house looks good but... waste of space essentially. And I don't even walk around the house after that at all, since there's no sense in me going to the room with all the flower pots to... look at the room with the flower pots.

While I love all of your videos, this one has always struck as a bit... out-dated. If you've ever seen anything on HGTV, a very notable trait seen in any good house is a sense of flow. All the rooms feel connected and the house appears much larger than it actually is. The walls are grey with white trimming to accentuate the rest of the colors in the room, and the dark wood flooring directs the eye up the the rest of the room. Ironically, I actually quite liked the house after the demo and before you started renovating (1:43). It had a nice simplicity to it that the completed house does not. In the case of your house, however, through what I might even call over-use of framing, not only are the walls crowded, but also completely closes off the viewer from the rest of the house. As soon as you step through the door, a huge wood pillar blocks both your path and your eyes. Sure, this can be used to direct the eye into the rest of the house, except this then becomes a wasted opportunity when both the walls and wood flooring are the same dark color and texture. Additionally, this creates this very dark and suffocating place, no matter the amount of torches or carpeting or flowers added -- they simply aren't big or light enough to combat all that brown. the reds of the carpeting also do not serve this purpose because. They really can't be regarded as accent colors either, which, really, is all this house truly needs. Some nice light colors to remove the intense emphasis from EVERYTHING. Sure, the windows of the house you worked with aren't nearly as large as to brighten the place significantly, but then you don't need to hide them behind yet another wood pillar. I guess what I'm really saying, no, what I'm really asking for, is an episode on a more modern interior? I absolutely love your channel and your videos and I feel as though you could do better.

We can all build like this... I know. But in survival without having 100's of hours sunk into a world a dirt castle is always the most practical choice. using logs for framing downright eats resources alive. Great video's BTW!
@marcuspaul2000
@marcuspaul2000 8 жыл бұрын
+ArfenOne we can obtain dirt much easier than wood. I'd even argue cobble is easier to collect than wood. I guess I don't like getting wood lol
@marcuspaul2000
@marcuspaul2000 8 жыл бұрын
+ArfenOne true. but it seems for me when I frame with wood logs it runs out super quick. that's what I'm trying to get across... that you may use 4-5 stacks for a small build of logs... and I tend to think how far that would can go crafted down for other things. wood is easy to get, it's just time consuming without wicked efficiency.

This video helped me so much! I've always had this problem where after I finished making the exterior of any house, the windows always drove me crazy by the way they looked on the inside. Like from the outside of the house the windows look perfect and symmetrical. But on the inside, the window might be off by one. So thanks to your video, I now know that that's normal, and from the inside of the house I should just work around that and add framing. Thank you so much Grian.

I just recently found your channel this past week & I'm already hooked!! I absolutely LOVE the way you edit your videos, how well you explain everything, & how much detail you go into whenever you're explaining something to us or just showing how you do it. Overall, you just explain things/everything really well! That's one of the biggest reasons why I subscribed to you. You just simplify absolutely EVERYTHING & you show us step by step on how to do (so & so). In my humble opinion, you're one of the best Minecraft KZbinrs that I know & watch! I will never forget this house cause I once was in your server and I found it by chance. It wasn't exactly the same as it is at the end of the video but it was really cool to see it nontheless.

My trick is: Mine out an area inside a hill and slowly expand downwards by mining lower down and have all rooms have a similar flooring, walls and ceilings apart from rooms like the enchantment room which will be stylised as a library of sorts or the bedroom which will usually be built later and above ground with a more homely feel. I usually only care about the looks of those two rooms
