We retired at 52 and 55. The goals were 55 and 58. We started talking to financial advisors, watching KZbin and researching the rule of 55. We were confident in our plan and our decades of investing. We have been retired for about 2 years now. No regrets. So much information is right at our fingertips.

“ I like my job! Just one more year will make me comfortable!” Those are the two for most that prevent pulling the trigger. Balance that with, “I could have retired a year earlier”. That was absolutely true for us. If you think you might be ready, you probably were ready last year! The above is our experience retiring at 63. Certainly you need planning, but getting your MonteCarlo to 90% plus will keep you working! Just do it. You can make adjustments. Life is short and retiring early will likely allow you to have a healthier and longer life.

Another great one, Joe! I’ll be 61 in July and, thanks to the knowledge and confidence I’ve gained from KZbinrs like you, Dwayne, Josh Scanlen and using New Retirement-I will be retiring 1.5 years earlier (January 2026) than I had been planning!! My husband will retire 1.5 years after me, and our years of sacrificing some things today to save boatloads into our 401k and 403b savings, his pension, and both of our social security payments are going to give us a very nice retirement life style!

One thing I think a lot of people don’t realize is if your job takes up 60 or 70 hours or more a week, which most do with commuting and thinking about work even when you’re not at work, then it’s hard to think about life after work. I know some people are worried about being bored, but when you’re so haggard you can’t think past the next week, then it’s not surprising you can’t envision retirement.

It is sad imho. I can't wait to retire and do what I love to do. I'll be exercising daily, spending time with fellow believers discipling them in the Lord and traveling. So much to do other than work at a place of employment.

You missed the most important point. Spending the time to educate yourself. Most of the fear of retiring is not knowing what to do with thier money. I retired at 51 a lot of my coworkers made remarks about how I'm retiring to early. All of them would ask me about investing or financing. I would try to direct them but most just don't want to put the work in. Then they listen to financial advisors telling them they need a ridiculous amount if money to retire. So people go learn about money, investing finances.

Thanks for all you do, Joe. I hadn't even dreamed about retirement until I was forced to wake up early this year when a close friend passed away unexpectedly within weeks of his planned retirement at a young age. At 53 and post-divorce, I assumed I would have to work until full SS retirement age. Between you and several other content creators mentioned, I think I can make it happen before 60 with some focused planning and spending discipline. I already recognize the most challenging thing for me will be calling it a career while I'm at my peak income. When I look at my historical earnings on the SSA site, the younger version of me would have had me committed for walking away from the money. Thankfully, I have a little time to breach the "one more year" wall.

Fantastic video, Joe! I certainly agree with Step 4 as being critical - without the example of someone like you, who I and others can relate to and see and hear about successfully living an epic retirement, it is exceedingly difficult to break the strong gravitational pull of one more year and naysayers telling you that retiring early is dumb financially/you’ll be bored blah blah blah. It’s been the difference maker for me! Thank you!

I thought i would have to retire at 65 but I am now convinced I can easily retire at 63. The fact that I can save up to 60% of my earnings even with a mortgage gives me the confidence that I will have more than enough in retirement. Mortgage will be paid off when I am 60, much earlier than I anticipated so the last 3years will give me the opportunity to boost my retirement savings. Good advice. You have to remember that you are in the spending stage of your life in retirement, m=not the saving aggressively for retirement stage.

My husband is 56, I am 53, our youngest will be a senior in high school next year. We probably could retire right now but it feels weird to do still having a child in high school. I don’t know why that’s a mind block, we are tired of working and we are grandparents. Have a lot of trips planned in the near future both with kids and without. I keep justifying continuing to work so we can pay for travel without drawing down our savings although it’s maybe not necessary. Ugh

FWIW I want to retire now, biggest issue is housing. I used to own a house but sadly I lost it mostly due to issues outside of my control. I've been working hard saving for buying another and now at the point I could buy one but hesitating as I am close to wanting to retire and not sure how to handle this aspect, especially with the prices of houses. Want to buy as I like owning and I'm worried that rent will continue to grow at the high rate it's been growing for a while. This would be my biggest cost and biggest impact to my retirement. :(

Owning a home isn't the end all, so you might re-evaluate why you want to buy a house as well as the pros and cons especially going into retirement. Azul Wells has a 5 months old video on rent v own home where he brings up some good considerations to weigh. You might like Ramit Sethi's (I Will Teach You to be Rich) or JL Collins' take on the subject, too, among others out there.

$3000 for full plan creation, review, changes, etc. Then $1000 to update. This can be annual or whatever time period. I have seen plans range from $3-8K. Not sure what you mean by "everything" but there are so many variables you can manipulate from returns, saving, spending, etc. You can also manipulate the optimistic, average and pessimistic as they are based on your inputs.
