What perfect timing as things are just coming up and there's still time for them to get good spring growth.

It is so helpful to see you carry out the method a number of times. I am so anxious to try this with my catmint, salvia and monarda. Just need to invest in a tray. Wonderful idea.

There's no need to go get a special tray. A pot or recycled containers will work just fine!

Great video, im going to get me some creeping plox rooted up. Mine is pinkish purple, ive had them for many years. They are starting to die out a little bit. Last summer was so very hot and dry. I live in northeastern Oklahoma. Humid and hot this summer. At least we are getting a little bit if rain from time to time.

Lemon balm is a member of the mint famiky and is quite invasive in my zone 7b garden. I've been fighting it for almost 10 years and still get it popping up randomly. It's a thug here. It smells great but is so difficult to eradicate.

It really does spread fast. As long as you don't let it go to seed it doesn't spread. Our grows in semi shade now and seldom blooms.

Could you put the phlox in water instead of soil to root them?
@Growingthehomegarden

You could but I find if you can do soil you get better roots.

How can we determine whether to cut it above the node or below? Is it just by species especific? 🤔
@Growingthehomegarden
@Growingthehomegarden Жыл бұрын
Every species can be different. You can always try to take a few each way and see what works best. Nodal cuttings are the sure way to go with most things but being able to do internodal cuttings allows you to make more cuttings.

I'm in the beginning of the video and noticed that you put the salvia cutting into a flat of some sort of medium. Can you tell me what medium it is? And if I don't have any of that kind, is there another alternative you can suggest that would work to add the cuttings to? If you answer my question before I finish the video then my apologies. I get ahead of myself.

I often will use sand for cuttings. Play sand, paver sand, builder sand all seem to work well. I will also use a combo of peat/sand. Sometimes with the peat on the bottom and a covering of sand. I've used fine bark shavings as well. Vermiculite and peat is a common combo too. So there are quite a few options. Here's a video on the sand option and why I like using it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rampe3eNmceDrNU

Does catnip work the same as catmint?
@Growingthehomegarden
@Growingthehomegarden Жыл бұрын
It can be rooted the same way. The two planrs are very similar but catmint doesn't have as much of the chemical to attract cats in it. It may have other similar properties.

Can you help me with transplanting double blooming lilac bush ? I hsve had poor results wwith the ones I purchased but I have hopes if I place them in a different area they will do better . They stressed so much not to overwater and I think that may have been the ptroblem when establishing tbem . They don't like wet feet . Pleade help with some advice . Zone 5 a now. . Full sun. Ph of 7 . Biotone to edtablish . Plantone in Sptimg / fall. No mulch around rootball. Planted 1" above ground level . All pet instructions . Cutback after firsy bloom whicj have been nothimg to brag about . Thanks for this grest vodeo and simple imstructions but I hsve One Quedtion? How lomg before you plant out into the gardrn after taking these samples ? No one evet tells this ?
@Growingthehomegarden
@Growingthehomegarden 8 ай бұрын
They should transplant OK. Just make sure you dig outside the rootball area to try to get as many roots as possible. When replanting try adding some soil conditioner or mulch to the bottom of the hole to create some drainage. They should help prevent wet feet problems. After shrub and tree cuttings are well rooted I will often upsize them and grow them longer in a pot. Then plant them out after a few months of growth. Perennials I'll go ahead and plant in the garden when they have a good root system.

Sorry about that! I've upped the volume on more recent videos. One of these days I should invest in a microphone. I've kept it simple just using my phone for the most part.

My sister “gifted” me with lemon balm, herb Robert (stinky bob), and sorrel. I have spent years pulling them out because they’ve taken over huge parts of my garden. Does she secretly hate me? Believe me, lemon balm does not need any special treatment to get it to spread.

Are you meaning catnip? Catnip is a prolific self sower. Catmint is related but much better contained. I've never seen it grow beyond an easy to manage clump.
