We have a lovely little (really it’s not so small) park area that the township has set up for school children to explore a lot. It’s open to everyone year round too. I’ve been practicing there and find quite a few mushrooms. It’s been really fun finding them and learning the different types. I’ve not been brave enough to eat them yet because I am so new but with your information I think I’ve gotten pretty good. Well fair anyway. Spore prints are essential I think for newbies like me especially. I wish I could tell you how much you’ve helped me and how grateful I am. I’d have to write ya a book! LOL Thank You so much for your generosity. The fact that you care enough about your fellow man to put such AMAZING videos out for free (I know KZbin sure don’t pay ya what you’re worth!) is priceless to someone like me. So thanks again and keep them coming. You’re truly making a difference in my life for sure!!! God Bless you and yours. Stay warm! My kids live in Lancaster, PA and they got a nasty ice storm today. Be safe. ~Lisa

Hey Lisa, thanks so much for your kind words and support! I'm really happy to hear that you're enjoying these videos. I'm not sure where you live exactly, though if there's a mushroom club within the vicinity of your town, I'd strongly recommend joining the organization and attending the walks. After a few forays, you'll definitely feel comfortable and confident in harvesting and eating wild mushrooms. That's exactly how I got started.
@MarkNowotarski6 жыл бұрын
Lisa, Just to echo what Adam said, I found a local mushroom club here in CT and they were extremely helpful. Also, I wanted to echo the virtues of small local parks for mushrooming. I have one near my office and often walk through it at lunch time. I think since it's so familiar to me, I really notice when something new pops up, like a mushroom. Not to brag (OK to brag), but I found some beautiful giant puff balls there, took a selfie with them, and now they grace with Wikipedia page for calvatia gigantea en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvatia_gigantea
@lisabooker64056 жыл бұрын

Hey NC mushroomer. I too live in NC, in the foothills area (WNC) and enjoy searching for oysters, honeys, brickcaps and wood ears. I find a good variety of edibles in the winter (its fairly mild here however, not like western PA) but the real interest for me is exploring the world of the polypores. There are dozens and dozens of wonderful wood decayers all over my woods. I can spend hours looking at the dead branches and "infestations" on dead tree trunks. Although I am retired and have "nothing but time", I do try to limit my shrooming to a couple hours per day, right about 2-4 PM before my afternoon chores start. Good hunting! DD

Great video, thanks! Where I am in southeast PA, I see a lot more late fall "oysters" than true oysters in the winter. Sometimes they'll have a subtle, but beautiful iridescence on the cap, like hummingbird feathers. They are more bitter than the true oysters, but I find the flavor a bit more interesting.

Something i've learned over 4 years of robust hunting (i knew a little before)...Maitake, Honey's, Sulfer's, Lion's Mane, Oysters, Morels. Those were the mushrooms I knew pretty quickly. Now i've got Shrimp of the Woods, Black Trumpets, Chanterelles, some Crown Tipped Coral's, I've seen lots of Boletes...but don't know them yet, I've seen Velvet Foot, but didn't know that is what it was, I've seen Brick Caps, but didn't know...I've see Wine Caps...but didn't know. Each Season I strive to learn a new mushroom. I tell friends interested in the hobby, concentrate on the easy to identify Edibles, but be curious about all the other shrooms you see, eventually you will add them to the edible or inedible list. Oh yeah, forgot Pheasant backs...but mainly because they suck...LOL.
