In a previous video we saw the 3 in row zigzag system, a very versatile system for playing zigzag caroms without effect on the long cushions.
We saw how to calculate the point of attack and how to modify the effect according to the hit of the ball, due to a phenomenon known as "effect gain".
However, there will be positions in which we will not be able to reach the point of attack and it will be necessary to use another system.
Therefore, we suggest the 5 effects zigzag system.
The 5-effect zigzag system is very simple, since the effect value is equal to the distance in diamonds between the starting point and the arrival point.
We have called this distance in diamonds an opening.
The attack will always be in front of the starting point.
In this example the aperture value is 5, and therefore the effect value is 5.
Effects should be marked as shown in the picture.
A very important concept in billiards is the effecct gain.
According to this concept, there is an increase in the rotation of the playing ball when hitting the object ball.
That increase in rotation is roughly equivalent to one effect for every quarter hit of the object ball.
With the exercise shown on the screen we can easily verify this phenomenon.
In this example the aperture is 4, and according to the system we should use effect 4.
But since we must take into account the gain of effect, we play with effect 5.
That is, we play with an additional effect to compensate for the effect gain.
Note that in this case the applied effect and the effect gain are presented in opposite directions.
