Greetings from Dublin. Good stuff - thank you. Yes indeed.... 1. Determine what you actually need/want it for [local/shorthops/shopping, medium distance, long-range, commuter, off-road, final kilometer and so on), do your research and get the most suitable, 2. Purchase a reputable make/model from a reputable seller, 3. And maintain/service it properly (no shortcuts, please), 4. Use your common sense - just because you CAN go at a certain speed, it doesn't mean you HAVE TO..... 5. So find your sweet spot (personally 18-20 kph) - with proper - PROPER - planning this will get you where you want to go, safely AND you can actually enjoy (yes, enjoy) the trip, 6. Remember, we use the roads/lanes as a privIlige, not a right, 7. ALWAYS bear in mind they are NOT toys - adhere to manufacturers' instructions (especially in terms of long-term storage, charging etc.), 8. EVERY DRIVER IS OUT TO KILL YOU - maintain situational awareness - anticipation is the best braking system, imho, 9. Don't play silly buggers - sometimes the best thing to do is simply stop, dismount and walk for a bit (I ALWAYS do this at roundabouts and certain junctions where I want to turn - crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing is quite ok), 10. Wear your helmet, 11. When you get your new eScooter ("I LOVE THE SMELL OF AOVO IN THE MORNING"),, go somewhere safe and practice, practice, practice, 12. Don't get cocky - wearing safety gear does not make us invincible. So APART from all that, enjoy - they are colossally great fun - happy travels.

As a scooter commuter, although I agree that range is important, most commuters don't need 40+ mile range. 9 times out of 10, a scooter commuter is not trying to replace a car, but a bike or walk. Scooters are first mile/last mile solutions for transit riders, or for urban commuters that live near work. Those last 1 out of 10, sure, look for huge mileage, but most of us know how to recharge every night for our daily single-digit miles round trip, even though I could ride a few days without recharging, because it's better for the batteries.

Thanks for your comments Joe. It all depends on the person I guess. If it wouldn't take me three times as long to get to work, I would ride my scooter the 15 to 20 mi each way every day. I have put 1300 miles on mine in 5 months! If you live in a big city and work close to where you live then yes I guess that would be true. But as you know and as I said in the video, 40 mi of range does not mean 40 miles of range. This is for beginners that haven't bought an electric scooter yet and don't know that 40 miles does not mean 40 miles. Also, if somebody does not have the opportunity to charge at work, they need to know whether they can make it back home or not. There are a lot of factors and variables that are specific to each person But I do agree that the average commuter does not need a 40 mi scooter. Bro, great video. Also, it pretty much brought me to tears hearing about your wife man... I hope her recovery is going well and ends up successful. I shattered the radial bone in my dominant wrist about a month and a half into owning my first e scoot.... Surgery didn't fix it and it'll never be the same again. Can't even bend it. I'm glad you brought up safety and the fact that they are not toys. It's a "tool" and needs to be respected as such. I wish I was a freestyle scooter kid instead of a freestyle skateboard kid; then I would have already known that no matter what happens (an itch on your face, you drop something, etc.) that you CANNOT take a single hand off the handlebars no matter how fast you're going. I was going a very very short distance and had a McDonald's bag under my hand on the grip of the scoot, it slipped and fell and I naturally reacted to grab it and it pretty much destroyed my life, so yeah. Serious stuff. Thank you so much for the video!

and that is why I bought the $200 (originally $400) scooter to try out and have been doing exhaustive research ever since. The Swagger 5 is not a bad commute to/from the bus depot but is little more than that, plus, its suspension is basically your T12, L1 & L2 spinal discs. If you didn't understand that, please look it up because you need to know it and potentially avoid it. Thank you for your input on the subject, priceless info!

Great video, and spot on. I bought a NanRobot also and for the same reason - Roadrunner Support. I'll add one more thing to consider too, make sure you don't get one that's underpowered for your size. I made that mistake with my first scooter, a 500 watt single motor scooter. It turns out it was fine in the flat, but it was not able to get my 235 lbs up the local hills. If you're a bigger guy and want to be able to make it up a hill then plan on getting a dual motor scooter with a 20 AH or more battery unless you want to buy it twice like I did.

It may be for some people and it may not be for some people. If you're in a dense city, you can't be going 40 mph on the sidewalks and it's probably not safe to ride in the streets. In less dense cities or out in the suburbs, it's much easier to go faster on the sidewalk or much safer in some cases to ride on the road. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it!

Oh and to avoid fires in the house. Always connect the charger in the electric wall unit and After connect to the scooter. And do not leave the scooter full charged still connected to the charger for long hours like a cell phone.

In terms of actual(!) range, I've found that if you take the manufacturers stated range, multiply it by 0.65 and add 1.25km (at a speed of 15-18 kph) it's surprisingly accurate, in my experience. Happy travels.

Thanks my man, I could feel you know what you're talking about. I ride similar sccoter (2000W, 60 kmph max speed). I know it could be dangerous and had a taste of it meself. Now I'm thinking I need longer range, as when I ride at max speed for like 5 mins straight, the battery drops significantly. Also a better suspension (not just big springs, but like oil suspension) is a thing to consider. Roads are far prom perfect simetime and for 10 inch wheels road holes and level changes can be a problem. A suspension that can really absorb the shock, without pushing pack on your afterwards, can be a great help for stability and comfort of riding. Thank you for yyour review! It is really helpful and unorthodox in a good way.

The first thing to consider before buying an e-scooter is to check the states' laws in the USA. This will determine the battery and motor power of the scooter to be legal on the road. Wear a helmet and use a mirror. Great presentation.

Thank you for creating this video. You provided some really great considerations. I am also researching the purchase of an E Scooter. One thing I did learn is how state laws govern where you are allowed to ride your scooter. For example, in California, you cannot ride your scooter on pedestrian side walks; and when using bike lanes, your maximum speed is limited to 15 mph.

@@HobartsReviewshey bud… one major error in your video is that you’ll get the farthest range on single motor eco mode… that’s wrong. The farthest range is dual motor eco mode. A single motor under load draws much more electricity than two motors operating efficiently. Very common misconception, and WILL sway your range tests. Hope you upload a video with accurate information because you could be costing the company sales and essentially slandering them! I have no affiliation with them… I love my Varla…. Good luck

Great video all around and very informative especially on the practical levels. I hope that the wife is really okay and recovering excellently, because I never thought something like that could happen to a rider. Extremely overjoyed that she wasn't riding alone but with a man like you. I'd been interested into a motorcycle safety driver course that makes riders more aware of safety in the maneuvering for those and most situations while riding. I had witnessed one friend come home with a broken jaw from an avoidable incident once. My concern has not diminished one drop since.

I agree about having a decent helmet and the risk of riding on small wheels. Four months ago, I was borrowing an upright scooter with 9-inch wheels. Riding at maybe 20 km/h, I cut across a lawn and onto pavement. The grass hid the edge of the pavement so I didn't see that it was raised. I went head-over-handlebars and rolled the fall, hitting my knee, shoulder, chin and helmet on the pavement. It was very painful and the helmet cracked but I was not seriously injured. I hate to think what would have happened if I was going faster. I intend to get a helmet with chin protection. I now have my own electric scooter and I feel much safer. It is a seated scooter with 14-inch wheels. The seated position lowers my centre of mass. I tried riding my scooter over the same raised edge that caused my fall and my scooter mounted it easily.

Is my headlight and front light connected together? I had to but another mud cover to go over the tire. My scooter is gray,but to closes I could get was a black. The tell light doesn't fit in It's to big andthe wire that connects to the head light hit the mud cover making noise that's very distracted. So do I have to get a whole new scooter. I can't find no where around here that can repair it.

When Im riding my scooter I advised everyone to stop at stop sign as if you was driving a car. When I get ready to stop, I release my hand off of the throddle and let it slow down by itself. I also look behind once in a while to see if a car behind me. If I see that the road is heavy traffic I just ride on the sidewalk. When I come up to a pile of leaves I slow down and go around it if I can. If I come up some where that I can't see coming around a curve, I ring my bell to let them know that Im coming up.

Those are good points, just a correction, nanrobot also deals in rebranding scooter from China, not saying it is a bad thing, I wanted a roadrunner but since I'm not in the US I biught the exact same scooter from kukirin, that sell outside of the US. And both brand used an OEM where they put their brand on the scooter.

hi nice video. i currently have an lectric xp 3.0 i use for commuting to work and around town. 20-30 miles/day. in what i would call very rural arkansas. i can ride on most roads just fine at 20-32mph. due to circumstances (tornado caused tree to fall on bike and bent frame not being covered under warranty) i am looking at scooters as a possible upgrade path. i am between either a Kaabo Wolf King GT or a OBARTER X7. same basic specs, range and price. coming from an ebike is there any major differences i should be aware of?

Hey, yeah the lectric 3.0 is pretty nice! That sucks a tree fell on it. As far as differences there are a few. Scooters are more unstable than an e-bike. Because your center of gravity is higher and the tires are much smaller, it's a little bit more scary standing up than sitting down. Plus those scooters go twice as fast as the bike so you have to be even more careful. Wear a full face motorcycle helmet and elbow, knee pads and riding gloves. When you fall your hands are first and your face is next so protect yourself. With all that said scooters are super fun! The acceleration and speed is addicting. If you respect the scooter you will be fine but if you try to push it over its limits or your limits it will bite back. I couldn't agree more with point 2. My first scooter was an Australian band (where I live) called a Dragon. Your can't buy parts for Dragons unfortunately. Another point I'd like to see you mention: modular/split hub wheels. Super important for tire changing.

I have a rod and pins in my left leg from an accident 35 years ago. As I recall full recovery took about a year. The human body is an incredible thing. At 69 years old and in pretty good shape. Thanks for the sub! It's hard to saym Nanrobot has the D6+ 2.0 for $1399 right now. They also have the lightning 2.0 for $1299. Hiboy titan pro is $1199. Kugoo G2 and G3 are also pretty good and more affordable. Hopefully this helps a little. Thanks again for watching and for the sub!

Im going for the n6 for one simple reason, I weigh about 260. So performance scoots are my only option. My daughters little 250 watt gotraxx pulls me around better than expected but any hill steep enough to run water required a kick to go faster than 6 mph with my tonage.

Hey, is it the iEnyrid M4 Pro S+? I reviewed it on my channel. Have you seen it? I thought it was ok but not the greatest. Range was good but it didn't have the best acceleration from a stop. But overall not bad for the price. Also iEnyrid should have parts available just in case. 😉

Three weeks ago today I nearly died on my scooter. I had a crash at 87kms, I got a little bit of air came down incorrectly jack knifed and super man it head first into a tree. 3 days induced coma due to swelling in the brain, Woke up 3 days later in hospital and told I had 2 fractures to my face, ruptured spleen and a lacerated kidney, and I was wearing full protective equipment. Honestly first thing I look for when buying a scooter is the range. Everything else is a bonus. I wanna ride for hours freely and without anxiety of walking home

To add to this I don’t look at the displayed range but the watts to amp hours ratios displayed to get a more accurate guestimation. Like a 20ah 2400w scooter might get less range than a 350w 12ah scooter so always good to account for the theoretical maths

Good points for sure as range is important. You're going about it the right way. But as I say in the video, if your scooter breaks and you have nowhere to get parts, you're kind of SOL at that point. So make sure to get one with good range from a reputable company with lots of parts of available haha.

I’ve seen enough horror stories of poorly put together cells combusting and had my fair share of aftermarket mistakes trying to compensate for a lack of parts supply. I bought a aftermarket replacement rear hub motor for my wife’s ninebot max that she uses to go to work and the bolts slipped out over time ( the security hex bolts holding the motor together not the chassis bolts ) and the entire back end was chewed up in the velocity of movement. I also bought a e rider Dora which is more like a moped and there was no parts anywhere online for basic things other than replacement batteries so I later sold it and got a Dualtron scooter which has an abundance of spare parts. Sorry for the boring read lol I’ve been riding e scooters since they were belt driven 20 years ago and the passion never fades just like motorbikes. I often find myself trying to look for the next power upgrade or range buster usually within a few days of purchasing a new vehicle 😂 best of luck with your KZbin channel you’ve earned my sub

Love my Segway Ninebox Max scooter but it is very large and heavy tipping the scales over 40lbs so looking for a much lighter more compact e-scooter that is comfortable and good balance. Thoughts? Looking at the new super compact Dynamic Scooter that weights a lot less and smaller footprint to get to/from bus stop. Really only need ride a mile to and from the transit stop.

I think Nanrobot uses about a 175 pound avg for the distance and speed not no weight and least resistance per say. That’s what the website says at least.

I made a couple of these mistakes when I got my first electric scooter (for 200) and when it broke the only reason I didn’t get hurt was quick reflexes and I was able to get it replaced for free due to the place I got it from the brand (hover-1) has no support and doesn’t care. I broke the second one and after a while I jumped ship to NIU who has a 2 year warranty and sells replacement parts and such

Well you can't do anything with the cold weather. Most scooters will behave the same. But one of my favorites right now is the Ausom Leopard. It's big, fast, powerful, looks good and under $1k. While scooters are fun, I think it’s important for people that are buying them to know that they’re inherently much more dangerous than electric bicycles due to the smaller wheels, and longer steering column. Hitting a bump, crack, curb, pothole, etc. at speed is way more disastrous on a scooter vs a bike with larger wheels. The longer steering column also makes the steering much more “twitchy” and less stable than most bikes.

That's absolutely true my friend! If you add a seat, it makes it much more stable closer to a bike. I know that kind of defeats the purpose but it helps. But yes, they are extremely dangerous because of the size of the wheels.

@@HobartsReviews the dual motor is designed a Polish brand (Techlife q5) but assembled in China as always and the other one is called Kukirin G4 from China. the European one has spare parts & customer service while the Chines ones claim they would support customers should anything go wrong. I don't think anything could go wrong with the Chines one though at least in the first 2 years.

Ok so looking into it don't see a website for this brand which makes it hard to see if parts are available. Also customer service and warranty may or may not be good. Looks like it's a direct from China brand. Not that it's bad but as I talked about in my video , it's better to get from a company with a good presence online with their own website, contact info, parts availability etc. But it looks awesome! Suspension yes, air tires I don’t like. A honeycomb solid tire is the best overall unless you like fixing flats.

Thanks for your comment but I disagree on the tires. I've had 15 or 20 scooters and have only had three flats over 2 years. I always keep mine at 50 psi or the maximum recommended and don't write over crap.

Curious but do you guys have medical insurance at the time of her accident/injury? I know USA medical is expensive. I live in Canada but I wonder about this if I was to get hurt while riding my e-bike or future e-scooter? I know my work would cover me for short term disability but I do not have extended disability via work or mortgage. Not sure if I could get on Workers comp either since most of the time i ride it for fun and not to/from work.

No we did not have medical insurance. Her surgery was over 100k but we were able to get some forgiven by a program at the hospital that helps people with no insurance . We still owe them and the doctor himself several thousand dollars still to this day. Sucks!
