I really don’t think the British monarchy will be going anywhere anytime soon, despite all the controversies and scandals. But if the monarchy does fall, I hope it’s nothing like the Romanovs or the Bourbons.

I mean with how huge the Commonwealth is too, it's not just England that comes into play. I would say it is one of the least likely to be abolished. Like with Charles it may be rocky, but Elizabeth has done an amazing job the past 70ish years and William and Kate are doing great for the younger generations.

@@tshepormolekwa882 I predict Charles will take the crown for about a year and then retire. He's out of touch but not stupid so he knows he's not liked. But i think he also wants to be King Charles III for awhile since he's waited for so long. I think it'll take a year before UK subjects say 'that's enough...get out'.

@ Hayley James Commonwealth and UK can separately decide if they wish to keep the monarchs. It’s not likely they all would want to remove them but the final ranking was UK focused.

@@hayleyjames7197 Charles isn't dumb. When he becomes King the focus will switch to William, he will be a transition monarch who will make his mark by modernising the monarchy. He will bring costs down, reduce the size of the working family. This has been known for a very long time and is what Meghan accused him of racism for.

In the most recent polling done it shows that 75% of British people support the monarchy (exc don’t knows.) There is far more resentment in British society towards their own elected politicians than the monarchy, so becoming a republic is off the table. And that's even w/ conservative estimates. The most likely founding-point for the dynasty is Emperor Keitai (or more correctly, his son Emperor Kimmei, who is the 1st Emperor to have historically verifiable dates), rather than Emperor Ojin (who probably existed but may not be ancestor to/belong to the same house as the present dynasty) or Jimmu (who almost nobody believes was a real person). That still puts the founding well-before almost all other extant dynasties. My main source for this is State and Dynasty in Archaic Yamato by Cornelius J. However I don’t think it does the Royal Family, the U.K. or the commonwealth any favours people conflate everything, all the time. Also, If they care about the Union at home, they need to discourage the media (especially the American media) from saying “Queen of England” or using England as byword for the entire UK. One thing you (and many others) are forgetting to put into the equation is the cost of a presidency - which is not lower than that of most modern constitutional monarchies. As a Brit, I can tell you for a fact that the monarchy enjoys overwhelming support across all ethnic groups so abolition is HIGHLY unlikely. We like to criticise each of the individual members of it but we love the institution itself. There is a Republican movement in the U.K. but it barely gets the support of even a fifth (closer to a sixth) of the entire country. Another point to note is that having our King distinguishes us from the United States- what would really differentiate us from one another in any meaningful sense? One point about the Dutch. The monarchy was established in 1815, not in 1581. We were a republic, not a monarchy. In his very First Statement in january 2020 he wrote, that he and Meghan wanted to Work parttime as royals and only take some of the Responsibilities, while only forgoe the taxpayers money which is only 5 % of their income. So they only wanted to work half of the time and still be payed 95% while looking to establish a new kind of income at the same time. That's quite unfair for all the other fullworking royals who would have to take over some of Harry and Meghan's Responsibilities along with their own workload while only getting paid just a little better. That's Why the Queen than stepped in. The taxpayers where also angry because they spend a lot money on the wedding and the renovations of frogmore Cottage, only for them to not take their Responsibilities seriously. And there also some rules that with their HRH Titles they always represent the royals publicly and that means that certain contracts and jobs with Not Royal-confirm Organisations and firms like netflix or spottify are not allowed, it's called conflict of interest. I’m Belgian. The monarchy is one of the things that’s keeping the country together. Flanders would be more likely to become independent without them. No, they’re not really beloved, but we keep them as a symbol. They don’t have any real power. We have restricted the money the ‘secondary royals’ receive. Oh, and yes, Flanders is more conservative, but we are not religious anymore. We used to be very catholic, but that changed in the 1960’s. Not many people are still devout catholics. A lot of people only go to church for weddings and funerals. Many people only have their kids baptized and go through communion so they can get married in a church if they want. We were the second country to legalize same-sex marriage, and the fact that gay couples are still not allowed to get married in a catholic church has made the church even less popular recently. My kids aren’t baptized and they go to a catholic school. The majority of the children in school do not go through communion or confirmation. Only about 1 in 5 do. By the way, Filip used to be brutally mocked when he was still a prince. One thing that has been well-received, is that Elisabeth is the first female heir to the throne and Belgium could finally have it’s first Queen. Previously, only male heirs could inherit the throne.

I really don’t agree that the UK is the second most likely to abolish its monarchy. Despite its scandals it remains popular and has done through centuries of scandals. I also don’t think Elizabeth’s popularity was affected by her protecting her own interests. And I disagree with the 0 points for cost thing because it feels like you completely ignored how cheap it is per person just because it’s the most expensive overall. And it’s definitely more historically significant than you let on considering it’s one of the oldest. I also think there is a major roadblock to change in the fact that the government is very much in favour of monarchy and would probably be very reluctant to hold a referendum (look how it drags its heels for Scottish independence referendums). I would personally give 2 points to the Queen, 0 to the family, 1 to the cost for taxpayers, 2 for historical significance, 0 to the happiness of the populace (though I personally wouldn’t use this score at all since happiness is based on far more than government/monarchy) and 1 to roadblocks for change giving a total score of 6. That’s just my perspective though and I respect your video.

@@alimohammad1934 might as well throw a few facts in here. The presidential salary is $400,000 per annum (taxable as the highest tax bracket). The ex presidential pension, according to the Former Presidents Act (1958), is equal to that of a current cabinet member (now $219,200 per annum, also taxable). Nothing extra for the first lady, unless he dies first, then and only then will she get a (taxable) pension of $20,000 per annum IF she renounces other statutory pensions. So right now there are five former presidents alive (Carter, Clinton, Bush 2, Obama, Trump). The wives of these presidents are the only first ladies alive; so none of them are collecting the $20,000 widow's pension since they're not widows, yet. Children don't get anything. Then there is the fact that the President has only one residence, in the capital, as well as a small "retreat" in Maryland. I am not sure how many residences the royal family owns, but it's a lot more, and the British taxpayer is paying upkeep and security on all of them. Do you have any figures on the security, residences and salaries for the British royal family as a whole? I'd be interested to find out. I wouldn't be surprised to find the British taxpayers are giving to the Crown, and all its members, and their residences) no less than we're giving to our Presidency, and all its former and current members.

This “cost to the taxpayer” issue is, in my opinion, severely misunderstood - at least with respect to the British monarchy. There is no money “siphoned off” from tax revenue. That’s utter nonsense. The income of the royal family is a percentage of the revenue earned from their lands, estates, and other holdings. The government at regular intervals appraises how much of the revenue earned from Crown properties should be given to the family, this is usually between 25% to 30%, if I’m not mistaken. In essence they are taxed at about 70%. And one must note that most of the Royals’ spending goes to paying their staff - creating employment and injecting the money back into the economy; take into account the tourism they promote and you’ll see that the UK is MUCH better off economically with the monarchy intact. This idea of being paid out of the peoples’ pockets is a NON-ISSUE! The only real issue would be the image of inequality and the place of titles and social hierarchicy in a modern world.

They are still very popular. About 66% support the royal family. Last year 75%. But partly due to covid-19 and the blunder to Greece, it has fallen. If a refendum were to be held, 75% would opt for the preservation of the monarchy, 10% for a Republic. I think most Dutch are fine with it, the country has a good economy and is doing reasonably well in the world.

Someone states that in 2021 75 % and in 2020 66% of the population supports the royal family. I am wondering which investigation this was? When mentioning figures and statistics it is important to mention the source otherwise anyone can make up something. I found different figures in the ' jaarlijkse Koningsdagenquete 'by bureau Ipsos for NOS. The support for the king went from 76 procent in april 2020 to 47 procent by the end of 2020. In 2021 it went up to 57 procent. So I guess the support is growing again to end with a positive note! Of course it remains an enquete and a small sample of opinions. By the way our king has been for example very active in the field of watermanagement and fulfills many other functions for the benefit of the country.

I think it also has to do with how the people view them for example before 2002 many people viewed the British monarchy as old fashioned hence why many people were siding with republicanist and abolishing the monarchy. However, during the golden jubilee of 2002 the royal family started to become more modern which included the Queen to meet new people as well as different cultures and religions and including more things that were popular with the people.

I am from Belgium and though we haven't existed as an independant country for a very long time, I can assure you that we were very significant even during this breef history and the time before. The husband to queen Victoria, was brother to the Belgian king. In WW1, the Belgian army stopped the Germans at the Ijzer river, allowing time for the alied forces to gather. In WW2, once again the Belgian forces held up the German forces long enough to allow the massive Brittish force at the coast to escape, which would otherwise have been capured, undoubtedly changing the course of the war. The European Union was formed out of the cooperation between Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxemburg. Also the headquarters of NATO are in Belgium. We haven't been independant for long, but that doesn't mean we have been sitting on our asses either.

I'm from the Netherlands. I don't see our Monarchy being abolished. They are very likable and do great work in keeping public relations and trade. I think they are more valuable than you explained. I do think that what they earn is a bit much and that it what most Dutch people will agree upon. The amount of anti Monarchy articles shown in the segment is surprising. I read a lot of news but negative news about the Monarchy is very very rare. Also: - Maxima's heritage was not such a big deal. It was mainly a problem for politic reasons, not for the people. She was immediately well liked. And still is. - Kingsday is on April 27 - The monarchy was established in 1815, not in 1581. We were a republic, not a monarchy till then. - The family was allowed to go to Greece (according to the measures at that time). The Neterlands was not in lock down (we never were officially) but it just was not sympathetic towards the people since it was not recommended by the government to travel. They immediately returned from their holiday.

Still one of the best heath care systems too and it's still the 4th largest economy of the EU. it is actually pretty impressive keeping in mind that Spain didn´t have the time the rest of Europe had after WWII to grown. While the entire continent was growing, Spain was under a dictatorship for 40 years. The growth of Spain from the 80s to the 2000s was astonishing. In fact, it's known internationally as the Spanish miracle. It's only since the crisis of 2008 that its economy suffered again, as the rest of the world though
