You're exactly right! I also live in a desert and all the succulents I bought this year, those that you mentioned are the only ones I have that are alive right now. I found even in a shaded patio, the succulents don't survive. So I've tried to save whatever I had and brought them inside and hope they survive until the weather cools off. THank you for your tips! They're very helpful.

I'm working on making a bioactive enclosure for an arid climate snake, so this is helpful! I'll of course need to double check that they are safe for him :)

I live in the high desert in CA. I have the hardest time keeping my succulents alive. The indoor ones almost always die within 6 months. Love your videos and I hope they can help me stop killing my succulents!

I just started my very first succulent garden with a few plants I could afford to purchase. Neighbors and friends have also contributed. I never turn down a free plant regardless of what type it is. The neighbor gave me a small chunk of aloe and said just stick it in the ground. I did with love and well wishes for a long future. Within about a week it started turning brown and within a short time it started looking quite dead and rotten. She said to leave it alone and water as needed. In about 2 weeks it started getting green again and it's growing very well. I have since then "adopted" several aloe and have gone through the same stages. Good life lesson to let nature take it's course.

Hi Jenna! I just planted some agaves (don't know what kind) in my new yard. Bought them at an Estate sale for $3 each! I find that the nurseries here are very pricey, even compared to Bachmans..
@bellajenna87
@bellajenna87 6 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! More expensive than Bachmans? That's saying a lot. I wonder why they're so spendy
@lleo9703

I don't understand WHY succulents and cacti are more expensive in a desert state. Go figure! I plant to join a local gardening club and maybe they can point me in the direction of more reasonable priced options. I loved Bachmans! Loved their pottery and plants.

Hey Leo! The best time to get succulents is right now :) The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix has their annual fall sale this weekend (Oct 19 for members, and the 20, 21 for the public). I'm headed there on Friday :)

Lots of sites recommend succulents for high heat, but this is the first one to get it right. There is full sun, and then there is desert sun and heat. I know: I learned hard lessons in record 123 degree Palm Spring's heat last month. Move on from any site recommending aeoniums (most do) or Crassula/jades. My coltyledons are still deciding. She is absolutely right with elephant plants (though she uses the scientific name), fire stick, cactus, agave, and aloe. By the way, my sansevieria don't mind the heat as long as they are in full shade. Anybody have luck with sempervarium hen & chicks or the new mangaves in high heat and full desert sun?

I have all these in my Phx home. I have a section of my yard that's mostly a collection of various aloes along with trailing purple lantana. Love Aloes! Several didn't make it thru the summer this year. I don't think it was the heat that got them as much as all the excess rain we got this year that melted them.
@lleo9703
@lleo9703 6 жыл бұрын
Does the purple lantana need to be on an irrigation drip?
@Succulentsandsunshine
@Succulentsandsunshine 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not very familiar with Lantana, but the ones in our front yard (which the HOA maintains) do all have drips going to them. I'm not sure what the watering schedule is though.
@lleo9703
@lleo9703 6 жыл бұрын
I have spaces in my yard with capped irrigation so have potential to add plants that need watering to these places. I’ll probably get some Lantana. I’ll let the group know how they do here and what schedule they are on.

I live in a city that has hot climate and being near seaside it is humid as well. Plz can u do a video on succulents that can do well in hot humid climate? I esp like soft succulents like the roset styles. But I have heard that they don't survive in hot humid climate. Plz can u share some tips on this?
