I own the Pilot custom urushi and Sailor King of Pen. Looking at Namiki no. 20, Otto Hut Design 08, and a Montegrappa extra custom.

I own the Custom Urushi, but the texture on the Iromiyabi is very interesting to me. I can't decide if I would go with Blue or Green though. Do you feel there has been any change at Otto Hut since they were bought?

I love the Blue Iro Miyabi - i would love to add that to my collection. No there has been no change at Otto Hutt since FC took over and it won't be for the next period of time. Company is safe and sound.

I have the No. 20 in Vermillion and I love the nib (mine is a fine) and I think it’s the most beautiful pen I own and for the nib and pen size is absolutely perfect and makes my handwriting look as good as it can. For me though the weight is its downfall. While other people like the weight, I always find it a relief when I pick up one of my three Custom Urushis or my 845.

Love the videos man! I imagine you are really pushing the market for these manufacturers as everyone is at home/work watching and planning which $500+ pen to buy next😂 I have 3/5 (Japanese ones) as I like the preciseness of the Japanese pens. Combining some softness + precision = holy grail of writing. For this reason the Custom Urushi is the winner for me when combining everything (price Included). It is a very unique experience. Basically take the custom 823 and give it some more feeling/softness while maintaining the smooth aspect which is so hard to accomplish. Softness with preciseness + feedback w/o being scratchy. It is the crowning achievement from Pilot (besides Emperor but that's just not a real pen 😂, it's a tiny sword). If you get the black version you can carry and use the best writing pen available and no one will even know. Make sure you get the correct nib though I love EF & F but medium in this case is better than the MF. The Namiki is a great collector item if you want the entire nib Pilot/Namiki range but way overpriced for they you get compared to others. KofP is great too in correct nib size. But if you only were getting one, spend the money on the Custom Urushi. You have put the Scribbo on my radar although quality control is not as great as the Japanese brands. Can be hit or miss. Like an Italian car 😂What nib flex (listing all nib flexes in the videos would help as well👍) is this one? Def agree Italians grind/tune their nibs differently and if they maintained the same manufacturing, service, & consistent build quality as Pilot, it would probably be a better choice for Western writers. We can dream! Haven't tried the Otto Hutt...maybe it's the non-Japanese I have been looking for!

Can you confirm that the nib of Pilot Custom Urushi is bigger than the nib of Namiki no.20? I think that is #30 for Custom Urushi and #20 for Namiki

You seem to prefer piston filling mechanism over the converter type even though the writing experience is the same. Why? It is easier to maintain converter type mechanisms.

I own the Custom Urushi, OH design 08, Scribo Feel and KoP (although the KoP not in Urushi). They are all great writers, but sadly on the Scribo Feel the cap does not post, and the pen unposted is a little too short for my hands...

The 845 nib while fantastic lacks the softness as well as the feedback that gives me the control to write as neatly, but the weight feels better. If the No. 20 was urushi over ebonite it would be my perfect pen and I’d buy a second one in black and sell most of my other pens. I’ve owned a KOP ebonite and the pen is a nice size and weight. If they made it with a fine nib I’d definitely try one of those in Urushi as a possible alternative to the No. 20 (Japanese fine is by far my favourite nib size - the FM nibs on two of my Custom Urushis are too broad for my longer writing and I’m considering getting them ground to fine. I do find it funny that I’m the video the Custom Urushis are described as almost like writing with a knife. I would not describe them that way at all - more of a firm and smooth spring. As for the other two pens mentioned, I personally have no interest in adding them to my collection - especially the Otto Hutt after the focus in the video on how heavy it is, but I’d be happy to try them anyway if I came across them. I’m really trying to narrow down my collection to just a few (around 8) very nice pens that will see regular use. I’m just hoping with time I’ll grow accustomed to the weight of the No.20 to the point I will want a second one!

Sailor KOP ❤️❤️ I won't agree with Pilot Custom Urushi. I had a bad experience with one. I haven't tried Scribo & Otto Hutt - I think it's time to try now !
