Helping students read and write CVCe words, or words with a silent e, is a crucial step in their phonics success! Maybe you’re trying to fit in support for students struggling in this area, but you just don’t have the time.
In this video, I’ll provide 5 activities that only take 5 minutes to prep - these activities can be used to help your K-2 students learn and practice their CVCe words.

Do you have any students who try to pronounce the silent “e” as a long e instead? For example, instead of saying “cone” - they might say /c/ /ŏ/ /n/ ē/? Type “Yes” in the comments if you’ve seen this before

Would you suggest teaching the few common rule breakers first (some, have, etc), after teaching the rule, or simultaneously? Thank you- always so helpful!!!!

This is such a great question!! I think it makes the most sense to kids when they already know about silent e.

Hi Alison. Your videos are always informative and helpful. Even though I have some of these products, it’s so good to hear how to use them and the purpose again and again! Where can I find the scrambled sentences with the recoding paper? I like the idea of having students write a sentence for before and after.
