That Furtwangler protected the Berlin Philharmonic's Jewish musicians, and remained as a last bulwark to protect German culture for the German people should not be ignored. It would have been easy for him to have left Germany and abandoned his people. As for blaming the German people collectively, as they were after WWI, one should not forget the many German survivors of WWI who opposed war including some in the Wermacht, nor ignore our own hypocrisy, where our own government has committed genocide in Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East while the great majority of the American people have never been held accountable, nor have felt any guilt for their government's wars of aggression or other war crimes- many of which have clearly violated the principles set forth by the Nuremberg Tribunals.

Furtwaengler purposely sabotaged the performance of the 9th that he was forced to conduct. The sound on the newsreel is from a different performance and was dubbed in. A recording of the the actual performance was issued a few years ago. It had impossibly fast tempos during much of the choral movement.

Il suo Beethoven e il suo Brahms - soprattutto negli anni Quaranta coi Berliner, ma non solo coi Berliner - sono difficilmente descrivibili con il linguaggio verbale. Sono esperienze telluriche, squassanti, che penetrano nel cervello e nell'anima....................Ad esempio, la Nona del 1942 (alla presenza dei gerarchi nazisti) presentata brevemente nel video, è a mio parere una delle più alte esecuzioni della storia dell'op. 125.

Possiedo numerosissime registrazioni di Toscanini, e meno numerose, anche se non poche, registrazioni di Furtwangler. Detesto le comparazioni sulle scelte interpretative dei direttori d’orchestra, perché ritengo che ciò che è soggettivo, non è discutibile. Ma se si guarda la figura del direttore d’orchestra per come è nata, non ci dovrebbero essere dubbi che Toscanini assolveva al suo compito decisamente meglio di quanto lo facesse il direttore Tedesco.

Sr. Ancona: su idea de hacer estos vídeos sobre los Grandes directores del siglo XX, es muy buena, pero adolece de su brevedad, no se puede en 10 minutos contar, ni siquiera brevemente, la historia de ellos... porque así corta Vd las obras , como el final de la Novena Sinfonía, siendo un auténtico disparate...😲😤😞😤

Gentile José Antonio, mi dispiace. Certo, in 10 minuti non posso raccontare la storia di un direttore. Ma il mio intento è quello di stimolare, di incuriosire, alla grande musica quei pochi o pochissimi che su KZbin si imbatteranno nei miei video (e magari poi andranno a cercare e ad ascoltare le opere integrali dei grandi musicisti!).
