My fav riff of of Burn is Sail Away (also Coverdale's best performance too). Criminally under-appreciated album.

I still have my 461 vinyl. What I like about your breakdowns is your non 'air play' song selection. It makes me queue up the source album for a relisten all these years later. I'm "Burn"ing now. Thanks Carl.

In Burn, you held the G on the 6th string while the partial C chord sustains. This is clearly on the recording, but you are the ONLY one on You Tube that I've seen catch that subtlety!

Love the deep cuts here! I remember as a teen in the 80s a local guitarist that became sort of a mentor asked me who my favorite guitarists were at the time. My answer was "Tony Iommi and Ritchie Blackmore," to which he replied confusedly, "Why?" Haha! I never understood his disdain for either, but especially Blackmore, because he paved the way for many shredders in the 80s ... Malmsteen, Lynch, Satriani, etc. Great stuff here, Mr. Baldassarre!

Fun stuff, Carl! Great pick from my favorite BOC album, Secret Treaties. Would love to see you break down Buck Dharma's 2nd solo (near the end) in Dominance & Submission. It's one my all-time favorite solos and an unheralded stellar example of mid-'70s melodic shredding that only a select few were doing at that time.

Love you man but EC didn't write Mainline Florida. George Terry did. Terry was in Clapton's band from the 1974 album recordings through 1978. Terry at times did the vocals live (one example, Norfolk 1975 on the bootleg "Scope 75"). He might pop up, he used to be somewhat active on YT. As a guitar player, you of course know how many "Tutorials" etc. on YT are flat out wrong, and amusingly, Terry has popped up in the comments a couple times to say "good job although that's not exactly what I played" on "The Core", a song many players get wrong. Super nice guy as well, you may enjoy his solo album.

Technical question: what's the advantage in the Aerosmith song (as an example) to playing an open string, rather than playing the same note on the string above it (like 5th fret E instead of open A)?
@CarlBaldassarreMusic
@CarlBaldassarreMusic Жыл бұрын
Great question. It’s just depends on the sonority you’re looking for. The open string has such a clear voice and has a little edge to it over a fretted note. But sometimes fingerings necessitate using a fretted note for the logistics of it.

I’m really loving the BOC pieces I’m learning! They’re so great! I know it’s strange for a “rock guitarist” my age to have missed so much music. I got so focused on making my own music and studying classical music as a kid, I wound up with a slightly narrow lens of rock artists. But I’m enjoying learning all this music!
