The 2000 Ravens defense is the best of all time. You couldn’t run the ball, you couldn’t score, and their own offense didn’t even have to score a touchdown to win. I keep seeing all these comments saying "Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Brett Favre, or Aaron Rodgers has the biggest arm in history rubbish." As a guy who used to work for a well known NFL scout who is still active? I can tell you wholeheartedly the greatest arms that have ever been seen by scouts. They are as follows: Jeff George, JaMarcus Russell, Dan Marino, John Elway, Josh Allen, Michael Vick, and then Brett Favre in that order as far as the strongest that the scouts have personally ever seen. I don't think people truly understand just how strong Jeff George's arm truly was. Like it was just not real...for anyone human or not to be able to throw an NFL ball as hard and as far as he could. By no means was he the best thrower. That means pretty mechanics, accuracy, and strength combined. I'd say that is either Rodgers, or prime Drew Brees if we are being honest.
@starwarsfannumber2 жыл бұрын
1991 Philadelphia Eagles: -42.4 percent Looking at raw points scored and allowed can sometimes disguise the true strength of a defense because of problems on the other side of the ball. No team in modern NFL history exemplifies this quite like the 1991 Eagles. After Randall Cunningham tore an ACL 15 minutes into the first game of the season, the Eagles’ offense collapsed. The defense spent the season constantly defending short fields. So while the Eagles gave up just 3.92 yards per play, the third-best figure since the move to a 16-game season in 1978, they finished fifth overall in points allowed in 1991. Opposing quarterbacks completed just 44.1 percent of passes, the lowest rate for any defense since 1978. They led the NFL with 55 sacks and 43 forced fumbles. They finished third with 26 interceptions. And the defense wasn’t one-dimensional: The Eagles allowed just 2.97 yards per carry on the ground, which ranks fifth since 1978. They put up these obscene numbers in standard stats despite playing the fourth-toughest defensive schedule in the league. Their division rivals finished first (Washington), fourth (Dallas) and sixth (New York) in offensive DVOA.

A defense that is really forgotten is Kansas City's Redwood Forest defense of the late 1960s-early 1970s. Buck Buchanan, Curley Culp, Willie Lanier, Bobby Bell, Emmett Thomas, and Johnny Robinson are all HOFers. They did win a Super Bowl in 1969 and while Chiefs fans say their 1971 team was their best, I prefer their 1968 team and I am a longtime Steeler fan. You're delusional to think any of these defenses were better than my 85 Bears even if you didn't see them..That's the defense that all defenses are compared to..Tom Coughlin said it best "Are they unblockable, Is that the 85 Bears!!!"
@doctorshawn3461 Жыл бұрын
The 1986 NY Giants should be on this list, arguably the best defense of all time in my opinion. Lawrence Taylor is the best defensive player of all time, and Bill Belichick was the best defensive coordinator. I would take this defense over any other, just my 2 cents

Same as the 2015 No Fly Zone. That defence was insane and had to make up for a subpar offence. Imagine if they didn’t average 2 giveaways a game

I love that when I press the thumbnail on “greatest defenses of all time” there is a video of marshawn lynch ripping off a massive run lolllll
I mostly watch baseball so my mind works in terms of that, but I would be interested in seeing a stat like PPG+ for defenses which adjusts for the era. I would argue a 16 PPG defense when the average defense gives up 25 is better than a 10 PPG defense when the average defense is only letting up around 15 PPG.

This is the modern area list but i know the Giants of the 50's, the Doomsday Defence of the mid 60's to the 80's the Bill Parcells Giants, and the Pre- LA Oakland Raiders had furious defences.

While you just can't compare Teams from different eras, what you CAN DO is look at a Team, who played in their Era, who they beat, and what is their legacy. Every team on this list checks almost every box I just mentioned, and they could each be thought of a a best ever. However, The Steele Curtain and the 85 Bears "Monsters Of The Midway" are simply untouchable. Both of those teams employed innovative new Defensive Schemes and techniques and the NFL just want ready for the combination of scheme and talent. I was 10 when the Bears won it all in 1985-86. What weird is, they actually had a 4 year run of Defensive dominance that was just unfathomable. The ONLY THING that kept them from making it back to the Super Bowl was the injuries at the QB position. They were so talented. Just watch the interviews of the teams that played them. They were terrified.

Be interesting to see the older defenses vs modern offenses,but under the old rules.i still think those defenses would struggle mightily but we will never know

Where are the 77' Falcons? They only gave up 9.3 points per game. Sure they might of had the best record that year but in this scenario it doesn't matter.

0:26 - Why are you showing a Ravens player, when discussing the 2013 Seahawks?
@gizmoman2388 Жыл бұрын
Honestly 2013 Seahawks were the best of all time. 2013 had the third highest Points scored per game (behind 1948 and 2020) and yet were lights out. They even prevented one of the best offenses of all time from scoring more than one touchdown in the superbowl, hard to find a more dominant defense

Just a couple things you messed up. When you brought up the 2013 Seahawks, you showed a picture of Earl Thomas in a *RAVENS* uniform and then you said the 2013 Seahawks beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl 48-3. Um no. They beat the Broncos 43-8 in the Super Bowl of that year. *GET IT TOGETHER*

2000 Ravens (1) 1985 Bears (2) 1976 Steelers (3) 2002 Buccaneers (4) 2013 Seahawks (5) All these teams won Superbowls,plus you could use any of the Steel Curtain defenses.
@Fireyninjadog2 жыл бұрын
The 1969 vikings allowed 133 points in 14 games,(9.5 points per game) allowed just over 2,700 yards all season, they were 1st in passing yards allowed, 2nd in rushing yards allowed, and 1st in defense overall
@1983jblack2 жыл бұрын
I give the Vikes their props as one of the best defenses ever. They were fast and aggressive and swarmed their opponents. Their only flaw was they could be overpowered which is what happened in the Super Bowls. Maybe it was Big Game jitters - I don't know because they beat those teams in the regular season as well as the Rams, Redskins, and Cowboys when they were at the height of their powers. They'll always be a mystery to me
