I don't even own a guitar, but I watched this video all the way through just to learn. Makes me want to sign up for the courses, but I should probably own a guitar first. Some old saying about old dogs and new tricks come to mind. Love your playing, Justin, and I often have your music videos playing in the background while I work.

Great tips - thanks! I've been playing for over 30 years and my problem is that when I started finger picking there was no KZbin videos to help me learn. So while I read some stuff and picked up what I could, I basically learned all wrong and now have deeply ingrained bad habits and I am trying to re-learn, but with more proper technique. I find it shockingly hard to do! But I do know the power of practice, so I am going to take your tips to heart and work on it.

Very interesting. I started playing in 1965 and was told in those days that a guitarist should wait at least a half hour after wetting the hands to play as to avoid arthritis in the future and of course I have always kept to that rule, guess I'll be rethinking this subject. Thank You for sharing, you are an awesome guitarist which I have strived to be all my life but yet fall so short. Always striving to be just a little better than the day before. You make it all seem so simple.

For a couple weeks now I've had your music playing on loop and I've been so inspired to start playing blues guitar, but I didn't have an instrument. Until this morning! While listening to this video and fretting about buying a guitar on my way down to the dumpster, I stumbled across an acoustic Yamaha that a tenant left in the trash area. I was awestruck. After inspecting it and discovering it in great condition, I swiftly adopted it. Can't wait to get home and watch this vid and start pluckin on my new guitar. Thanks, teach!

I’ve been finger picking for 60 years, yeah, I know! I’ve never used my pinky, other than a rare plucked note when all the other fingers are busy. In my case muscle memory will probably never allow me to change but it’s a good exercise for those less stuck in their playing habits. Thanks for the lesson!

Totally Awesome Tips and Lesson . And, adding the actual Musical Terms was Amazing. Man, I reflect on my first experience with learning the guitar, I was lended a guitar from a Teacher in high school and I was really into the Music of Arlo Guthrie. But the Mel Bay books in the guitar case was like trying to learn Greek literature. Thankfully my older sister stepped in and I was given Real Guitar lessons for my Birthday . It was the Thumb/Pluck style too.
