Lots of cruiser riders use the rear almost exclusively. The best answer is to use them both together, effectively. The rear can do all kinds of good things like trail braking. It can be used to tighten your cornering line too. And, with the front, u are getting 100% of braking power.

The last point is actually reversed with uk ROSPA, they say stop in neutral so that if you are tapped from behind your bike doesn’t shoot out into traffic because you let the clutch out by accident. I get both approaches .

Motorcycles don’t shoot out when dumping the clutch, they stall in place. They will however shoot out if in neutral (assuming hit from behind).. Do you ride motorcycles?

@@PetroHead If you are gripping the throttle handle with the right hand and squeezing the clutch lever with the left and you get hit from behind, you could actually release the clutch and roll on the throttle at the same time.

Now that I'm more into bikes, I see the one habit of delivery bike riders in South Africa, more and more each day - I have a vehicle driving license that does not require me to use the inner rear view mirror and if I didn't have that mirror anyways, I would not be able to see half of the motorcycles behind me at intersections. They do this ALL THE TIME.

I appreciate the time and effort you put in this video and most of the habits you explain are very valid. But i have a big problem with the way you describe steering with the upper body. Steering will always be faster and way more efficient by using the handlebars, doesnt matter if at 20mph or at 200mph. The only thing that you upper body does is determine how much or how little you have to lean the bike itself. Steering with only your upper body is slow, unresponsive and very hard with bikes that have low center of gravity. Teaching new riders to "not using the handlebar" is extremely dangerous.

I didn’t say not to use handlebars or primarily use body weight for steering.. read the pinned comment.

I really enjoy your videos, been watching latey. I have 3-4 years of experience on ktm rc 390. I'm thinking of switching to Aprilia. Not really sure if I switch to a litre bike rsv4 or upgrade to rs660 . What's your thought on this. I have no experience on track.

Thank you! RC390 to an RSV4 is a big jump. It all depends on your age, acumen and if you’re responsible or not.. I had an RC390 as my first bike as well.

Hey man this is going to come of nowhere but I have a question I’m this close 🤏 to buy a 2013 Aprilla rsv4 factory but the bike is salvage and the seller is saying the service light is on due to rear brake light disconnected he said he disconnected it when he was changing the starter fuse (just never put it back ) I have a feeling something is wrong it doesn’t make sense but I got no clue how Aprillas work or how are they designed 😬😂 plz helppp!!

Open the tail with the key, use Allen wrenched in the back to open to expose all the wires.. connect it back in place to see if it disappears. Watch my tail tidy video to see how.

READ BEFORE COMMENTING: Lesson / Habit #4 is about not death gripping your handlebars.. Thats it! My example may be far out for most so forget everything I said.. but anyway, listen to what a pro has to say: kzbin.infot0kz6f3El38?si=hA_d8ZZbUFH1guk-

shocking to know that a lot of rider's use the rear brake more than the front. I didn't know that at certain speeds that your arms are a priority or not needed as much. Great advice and good video. when are you going to do another track day video. Would be interested if you can go into detail of what to expect at a track day, if you haven't done one already. Your the only youtuber that has interested me highly in doing track days when I get my bike.

Who the hell is using the rear break more than the front? Who are these riders?
@PetroHead
@PetroHead 7 ай бұрын
@@joakize You would be surprised.. only a handful of people take motorcycle courses or invest in education. As you saw the guy in the video with no helmet or gear used rear brakes and took a high side. A lot of people use primarily rear brakes.. you just don't hear about it.

@PetroHead How do you get a driver's license for Motorcycles in US? Isn't it first thing you need to learn while getting it? Isn't there even a test you need to do to get it?
@PetroHead
@PetroHead 7 ай бұрын
There is an MSF foundation course but there are about 2 instructors for 20 students.. most of the time, the instructors are terrible teachers and/or riders once on their own forget what they learned so while on their own, they develop bad habits without anyone correcting them and they don’t bother taking any repeat learning courses either. Other times, they don’t even do an MSF course but learn in a parking lot, then go to DMV to take riding test which again is very basic and most likely they practiced on their own in a parking lot without an instructor to show them right from wrong. Again don’t be surprised by any of this..Some riders are clueless.
