My hack after 8 years of doing this: check comments an hour or 2 after publishing to make sure I didn’t mess up in a way that needs the video removed ….. then never look at them again. They provide no value. Have conviction why you make your videos and you dont need others to steer you. Love your videos Ed.

I have to disagree with this philosophy, and here's why. Social media is about community, and while I didn't used to "get" that KZbin was a social media platform, it really is. Once I started reading and engaging with comments (as a viewer), I started to feel like "I belonged" to various channel communities. The channels that I feel the least connected to do not respond to comments, and some don't even acknowledge them. I find myself being far more critical of these creators and far less likely to care if I miss one (or any) of their videos. On the other hand, creators who engage, at least like, and sometimes respond (although it doesn't have to be to me specifically) inspire far more loyalty from me. That can be the difference between getting likes, subscribes, and watch hours. It can also mean the difference between viewers staying or unsubscribing. Creators who engage, I will watch an hour plus of live video, even if I miss it live. People who never even like comments aren't likely to get me to even watch a live, if they create them, and I am much more likely to unsubscribe. FWIW, I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, but most of them will just leave and not comment about it.
@McJuneTagaBukid2 ай бұрын
Same here... that's why I always responded to the comments as sign of giving in return the time they spent on commenting on my videos @PulpParadise 😊

One of my mentors Bonnie Gillespie who wrote Self Management for Actors interviewed a friend of hers that is "less than handsome" and known for quirky and creepy guy roles and she asked how he dealt with the haters. He said... I laugh all the way to the bank. :) So now I don't feel so alone after finding this thread. I wish you all the wealth and happiness on that road to monetization! I'm totally gonna take the advice from the video here and laugh all the way to monetization day. Just keepin the goal in my mind. Hell bent on quitting that day job. Good luck @randyrektor

Great video! I've been doing all these since day1 I always say my channel is a safe space no negativity so any neg comments automatically get deleted. Alot of people just go on youtube trying to ruin peoples day so remember you're not being singled out some people are just like this. Delete, block, and go on about your day 💪🏿💪🏿

Ed, this is great advice. I regularly do this: 1. Hold ALL comments for review 2. Approve and respond to comments from people I most want to watch (and return to) my videos 3. Delete and/or hide comments from people outside my target audience. Soooo soothing.

I’ve always thought of my channel as being similar to inviting someone over to my house. If someone came to my home and said some of the things folks have said in the comments, they would be promptly invited to leave. This made me feel confident to use the hide user option. If it’s not acceptable to say as a guest in my home, it’s not acceptable in my comments section. Though I do allow constructive criticism.

As a psychotherapist with a channel focussing on mental health I think it is so important that youtubers like yourself are talking about the impacts that being a youtuber can have on mental health. First I want to say great video, second to everyone here we are all going to make. I like to share something as a small channel is used to take personal when people would bit the thumbs downs and I would always wish that KZbin got rid of comments. But as I been struggling and wanting to make KZbin full time to get out of the corporate environment. I realize that there’s is too much going on to worry about thumbs down 👎 or hatful comments. What I have resulted in doing is telling the hating comments the following. “ Thank you 🙏 so much for watching, don’t forget to subscribe “. This has made focusing on filming, editing, thumbnail and tracking analytics much easier in terms of staying focus on what truly matters.

First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they love you. This is the process. They ignore cuz they dont know you. They laugh at you cuz your new on the scene. Then they love you when they realize what you have to say is vaulable. Any brand takes time to build not weeks but YEARS to establish credibility... period. It takes time for people to get familiar with your content and brand and feel comfortable with you. It takes several interaction with you or your content to even get a feel for who and what your about. If you know this it makes this process a bit easier. I keep comments cuz I have learned to use dark energy as fuel, its unlimited, always there and its preparing me to be mentally tough. You cant turn it off in the real world so all your doing is masking it in a digital world. Your taking the soft route man. You just have to learn to keep moving forward even though there is critisism. You never meet a hater doing better than you. Reframing it in your mind helps. If you know you say true things in your content. Then if they dont like it thats on them not you. Dealing with it makes you stronger than deleting them.
