I am in agreement with everything you've said about the mistakes we make to prevent growth. However I have been going over lots of advice given by many women on KZbin from all communities not only just natural hair community. There are some common threads with all of us in general. For instance regular hair trims, the math just isn't mathing for me. Some women grow four inches a year and some six. So if you're getting trims regularly from these two groups technically the growth will either be two inches of growth kept or up to four inches for the six inch growth group. This will depend on getting trims four times in a year. Even if you get only two trims a year, the four inch a year group will not see any real growth and the six inch a year goup will not reach the six inch expectation. Yes there will be those who might actually gain but I have actually watched some women on KZbin who are doing tremendous consistent routines with their hair and yet they tell their stylist no progress is being seen. The stylist will give advice but to me it seems like a relentless cycle. So addressing the split ends, I am led to believe our hair is like fabric and we do way too much. It really wears down the hair, especially the ends because we all know its the oldest part of our hair. I've accepted my thinner ends but they don't split because simplicity is where I am. I have seen so many photos and documentaries of ancient indigenous people. There are no salons, hair products, or scissors for trimming. Yet they have beautiful hair. I'm including indigenous from many different tribal/ ethnic groups. Truth be told they're living off the land so hair seems secondary to their survival. But I imagine diet, plenty of sun, access to clean water, and mobility is the key to their healthy hair. I think it boils down to choosing healthy hair or fitting into the modern beauty standards. Just some things to consider.

Good Job, sis. I wholeheartedly believe that braiding with extension hair could cause damage. Not only because of the reasons you mentioned, also because using synthetic hair dries out our natural hair and causes breakage during the take-down process.

We should refrain from calling our traditional African hair styles protective styles. Only cultures with straight hair leave hair open
@ANGIEBEEАй бұрын
Any style with minimal manipulation or tucked away ends regardless of texture or curl pattern are protective styles. indians and europeans also protective styles like large braids even though many of them have straight hair 💖
