I have used and purchase for friends the Farberare hands free can opener. I had mine for 5 years, very happy until this year! It was running low and we changed the battier but the can opener was caught on a medal can. The lip wouldn't release. So base you next episode on 1. easy batter change 2. how long does it last and 3. once can open how shape is the lid. I watched you video and still couldn't decide which one was best for us. Didn't like that the one we had last 6 years, and its a Walmart product not sold everywhere. There are some good reviews on You Tube. thanks for doing this video.

I've been using one touch as seen on TV for a few years now. Love it, it just struggles on super small cans, which I wish you would have tried. Check out tomato paste cans for like $1 or less, about 1.5 inch round... That should sepparate them.

Thanks for the great video review. I would have never thought that the lowest price one would be your top pick but I have to agree with you on that.
@dinkerz5 жыл бұрын
I bought mine new in package from the thrift store. I really love it but it doesn’t open tiny tomato paste cans. There is a size limit to them so you still need a regular one too. I tend to have the worst luck with regular hand held can openers; they tend to break or misalign too quickly no mater brand or price. These handfree kind can jam with the paper label or “crash” and stop when not aligned but they’re fairly easy to reset. I definitely recommend having one.

One thing with these, I had one about 5 years ago and if the batteries were going dead or dead it would hang and you had to get it off. I actually cut myself trying to get it off the can. Not really stitches cut but enough I had to wear a bandaid for a few days.

Great video! Even though they all worked, some were faster, it seems shimmy-ing is something they all do. The thing contains a moving parts motor. It's sad to say but I'm almost glad you got cut on that so we can all see that the smoothest can still cut and not believe what is written on box or in commercial. Personally I don't even give the can itself to my pet. Either parts of the can is prone to cut.

How did those times compare to the time it would take to open those same cans with the best of the manual can openers you previously reviewed? I used to own countertop electric can openers many years ago, but long since switched to manual can openers with comfy handles (love the Oxo Good Grips!). I suppose if my hand strength were to decrease substantially, a hands-free can opener would make sense for me, but it doesn't yet.

I haven't got the patience for 30-40 seconds to open a can. The Oxo can opener I bought 14 years ago does it in 6 seconds & NO sharp edge & it has a pincher to lift the lid off without touching anything. And it doesn't actually "cut" into can, so it never gets dirty.

Fun fact: the phrase "the peanut gallery" comes from the old days before electricity. During theater performances the balcony seats were the cheap seats where they sold peanuts for super cheap and called it the peanut gallery. If they didn't like the performance the trashy poor people would start yelling and throwing peanuts. Eventually, they just started with the announcement "no questions or comments from the peanut gallery"

I actually have one of these, the Instecho, which weirdly is white and branded as one touch, so looks like the instecho is a clone, but the Auto stop feature, its not that smart, its basically a timer unit, it just times for the can, the shimmy is down to the gear on the bottom dragging it along the can, it does take two presses for large cans, but they mean larger than the beans can you used, really I've had mine for about 5 years now and its actually a decent device, its never failed a can and in 5 years has only needed two battery changes, it does struggle sometimes but Ive never seen it flat out refuse to open a can up, but yes it does autostop, just occasionally gets it late on smaller cans cause of the timer being programed for bigger ones.
