No school is objectively “better” than others, they each have their strong suits, but I’d say Harvard is Harvard because it does pretty damn well in almost every branch.
@upscaleavenue2 жыл бұрын
So, Harvard is not requiring SAT/ACT scores. My question is: where is admissions officers' attention going to in place of those scores? Where they would normally look at those scores, what are they looking at instead? If anyone has any thoughts, I'd love to know what they are. Thanks! Update: I am aware that a test-optional policy does not equate to a test-*blind* policy, which would be needed to make admissions fair and equal for those who choose not to submit test scores. Schools like Harvard should disclaim that they still favor applicants who submit scores over those who do not.

@lissa47502 жыл бұрын
Recommendation letters, transcription/gpa/school profile (all of these 3 combined, plus your academic schedule rigor), extracurriculars and honors, essays. Like you said it yourself, test blind DOES NOT equal test-optional. It doesn't take much to google the difference (or even look it up in Harvard's website) and understand what it implies.
@colonelnoob32692 жыл бұрын
Basically EVERYTHING else you include. Being test-optional is something one should REALLY try to take advantage of. If your scores are bussin (34+ or 1520+), by all means, submit them. That's just one more component that may help you get in. If they're subpar, leave it out. ONLY show what benefits you! I know many classmates that include them regardless because they think including it will always be beneficial. NOT THE CASE! If you're only sitting at like 1490, don't bother including the score unless you really have nothing else to supplement your application. Note: Schools have publicized that 34-36 and 1520-1600 are treated the exact same! If you already fall into this range, don't bother taking it again. Note 2: Many may argue that 1490 is really good and I agree. For big boy schools, however, that is usually within the lower ends of the 25-75 percentile.

The past 2 years have been insane for me since I've been changing my education systems A LOT, which has been ruining my academical status, and I will change my education system ONCE MORE after grade 8. I'm really into programming, and I've been programming some games from the past few months, I'm lucky the same programming language is being taught in my school too. Also into Astronomy, I'm really curious, and obsessed with the stars, I've been learning a few stars as well, I always wonder how all of this started, is being controlled, and how it will end. I'm just really de-motivated as I've got really low percentages in the past 2 years. I'm currently trying to improve on my academics, once again, and not giving up. The more of comments I read, the less secure I feel about getting accepted. Mainly due to my school system, the Italian one. We don't have courses, you get sorted in a class at the start of your first high school year, then you'll stay there until the fifth. You don't get to choose which subject you wanna study, everyone just do the same 12 subjects. We don't get extra credit per class, plus if you do, you can only accumulate a fixed amount, based on your school grade average, that is made out of ALL the subjects. We don't have lots of extracurricular activities, plus after the pandemic almost no external certification gives you credits. we don't have honor classes, since we cannot even chose them.... I'm really worried, i seriously looking forward to study in the UK, tho my country won't recognize the A-levels as a "High School - Diploma". I'd love some tips, feel free to write what ever you want.

@@colonelnoob3269 I clearly said they are gonna get owned by SCOTUS on the AA (Affirmative Action or as I like to call it, Anti-Asian) case, obviously not the hypothetical Wired case. They already took the AA case and the case is expected to be heard this year. The Wired case is undeniably copyright infringement, so it will never reach that far: they stole the exact video format, design elements, title format, description format, hashtag/keyword format, and more. It's a joke. Stealing all of these things together clearly proves this. They are lucky this video only has 40k views, so Wired won't sue for damages unless views increase 100x or more. But I hope they still make Harvard comply with the KZbin takedown like a good dog. They can do that with little effort. Hello! So as Harvard don't require SAT or TOEFL scores anymore ,the basis of admission are going to be the recommendation letters and essay ? Can a former teacher or a teacher from my former school write the letters for me as I have changed my school several months ago ??

I would suggest you get a rec letter from a teacher who knows you best and is most related to what you plan on majoring in. For example, if you're thinking of majoring in biochemistry, getting a letter from either your biology or chemistry teacher would be helpful. It doesn't matter if they're from your old or new school. It's better to get a really good letter from a teacher who knows you really well than have a generic letter from a new teacher

How ironic that Harvard Admissions used the word "everyday" incorrectly in their own description. Looks like Columbia for me. Edit: They changed it silently. Not cool.
@masquerademage2 жыл бұрын
Hahaha they do? Crap like that makes no sense to me. My university also uses the wrong everyday/every day and although it's a small state college, these writers should be professionals. 🤦♀️
@collinaestheticx13322 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they used it correctly. Everyday, one word, is an adjective meaning "used or seen daily," or "ordinary." "The phone calls were an everyday occurrence." Every day, two words, is an adverb phrase meaning "daily" or "every weekday." "They go to the coffee shop every day." In the description, they used "Every day" as an adverb, which is correct.
@sorry98612 жыл бұрын
@@collinaestheticx1332 That's because they changed their description. ;) It used to be "everyday," not "every day." They fixed it, but regardless, it's not a good look for them.

@@zxcv5589 Yeah sure , first of all dont try for ivy leagues like Harvard Stanford even if they choose 4% , extracurricular, leadership ,English skills in essay matters lot and only 2 to 5 Indian gets selected among Indian students. Second aim for Georgia Tech for CS or Georgia state both are equally good . If u cant get in Georgia tech go Georgia state and then transfer later ,its ezy to transfer . So some of the colleges I would reccomend you is Caltech, Georgia Tech , University of Illinois , Purdue University ,University of California , Georgia state provides huge tuition fee waiver u only need around 10 to 15 lakh per annum and if u work part time and internship it will be almost free of cost . I would reccomend you to choose CS rather than CSE . CS is computer science which IIT dont teach . CSE is computer science engineering which is a small part of CS .if u want to ask more u can

@(Insert a name) lmao this is horrible advice. I know a kid who acted like a “model” citizen at all of his ivy league interviews, got rejected from every single one with the exception of Dartmouth. Now, this kid had great ECs, he volunteered (over 800 hours) at shelters, took trips to Colombia to help kids in need, did a bunch of stem programs, won awards in math and science. But he didn’t care about these subjects, he just did them to get into “hahvahrd.” And when you have no love for something you can’t show your interest, which is why he was rejected. Harvard isn’t looking for well-rounded people, they are looking for a well-rounded CLASS. People who will excel in life. Which is why another student from my school got into Harvard for RD this year, at it’s lowest admit rate (about 3.4%), alongside UPenn (wharton), Princeton, Brown and Columbia. He was really into Business, and he talked about it, a LOT. That’s not to say he didn’t do anything else, but he had his own *thing* and focused on it. He was himself, told his interviewers what type of person he is and why he’d be a great fit for his schools. That kid got into 5/8 ivies, Duke and Northwestern.
