@@christopherlawrence2045 I mean I have, which is why I said tight end because he was easily the best blocking wide receiver of his era, possibly of all time. He would obliterate defenders with his blocks similarly to how tight ends like Nick Boyle and Rob Gronkowski would.

Hines is a Hall Of Famer whether the Hall votes him in or not, and students of the game know why. #1- Ward played his entire career in a run-first, all-outdoor bad weather division with awful field conditions being routine, in an era where head shots were still allowed (with slot receivers taking the highest number). Ward would have had another 200 to 300 catches if he was playing in the modern NFL in some dome of perfect field conditions, and a pass-first offense where hitting receivers has become more regulated. #2- He also played with less than great QB play (Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox, a young and inconsistent Big Ben, etc). #3- He is responsible for probably a thousand hidden yards and about 20 hidden touchdowns from OTHER players via his blocks, OR, the fear he instilled on defenders in open space knowing he was out there somewhere waiting to destroy someone pursuing the rusher. #4- In his era, Ward's viscious blocks were NOT PENALTIES. In fact, he is why they MADE viscious blindside blocks penalties. But before they were penalties, you have to consider that a SKILL, not a stain. He played within the rules of the game for his day with incredible violence, which is to his resume's credit, not its detriment. #5- His post-season resume is STELLAR! Look up his post-season stats. Ward was a monster when it mattered most. #6- He has 2 rings and a Super Bowl MVP as a receiver, which is rare. #7- A bona fide team leader and community leader. This guy's presence on the field would rally the entire team over and over again at key moments in games, and off the field, his ambassador work in South Korea was honorable. #7- He had a clear Era Of Dominance, making 4 consecutive Pro Bowls, followed by 2 Superbowl rings and a Super Bowl MVP in the 3 years thereafter. That 7 year run had a LOT of tier-1 greatness from Hines Ward. Hines Ward did everything that could possibly be asked of his position within the context of his team and his era. If the Hall doesn't see his body of work as Hall Of Fame worthy, shame on them for not paying closer attention.

I'd put larry at 4 and Ward at 5. Just doing the dirty work at the WR position and never saying a word about it. I'll take the quiet ones any day. Larry shits on Chad lol not even close. Don't care for the talkers Owens. Moss, Chad don't care for them. I'll take Larry and Hines who will go block a linebacker or a safety and keep their mouth shut and do their job over they loud mouth divas (like they are called divas.... in football.... that's pretty sad) Also Marvin Harrison is just a class act Hall Of Famer yeah I'll take a list of 7 without Owens, Moss, and Chad

Larry got drafted in 2004, so he had 4 years to get 3000 yards and 15 more TDs than larry. During the same time they played from 04-10 (2000s) Larry had 8.2k yds with 65 TDs, Ward had 6.6k and 46TDs. Hines is beast but Larry is better, Larry is rated so low because he didn't talk much like a lot of people have said. If Larry and Marvin switch teams Larry is #2 here, Moss would probably be #1 if that was the case.

I think it'd go the other way around, with Smith being the toughest beyond Hines, Smith was just more intense, where Hines smiled his way through his brutality. While Smith has more yards (off more receptions) and Hines has more TD's (off less receptions, obviously), I think fumbles gives Hines the edge...Smith had more than double what Hines had.
@MrBiscuit75

Hines should be on the list, but Wayne, Boldin, Fitz, Johnson, and Smith are all higher than him
@RagnarokMic
@RagnarokMic 7 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: Hines had more TD's than Wayne, Boldin, Johnson, and Smith during the respective duration that each of them played up until '09 (while Smith missed a year, he never scored 17 TD's, so he likely falls short regardless). While they all had yards, Fitz was the only one to outperform him in TD's. And Hines was the best blocker out of any of them (and any other WR for that matter), with only Steve Smith being on the same level, so that helps bump him up a bit. The only thing Hines didn't have was speed, they always had a Buress, or Holmes for that, so Hines didn't get the big yardage...but he was as much of an asset as anybody, pulling in the hard catches that saved games. There's an argument for placement all around, and Hines is definitely a strong contender for top 5, the Super Bowl MVP also helps.

Hines ward was a deceptively quick, elite route runner with unbelievable hands. He was such a fluid deep ball receiver in the early 2000s. People get the wrong impression of hines. His physical style of play wore him down as his career went on, he lost a lot of speed in his late 20s for whatever reason, go back and watch highlights of him from 2001-2002, he was a completely different player early on than the "blocking receiver" most people remember. Also he he broke tackles like a running back and was an underrated passer, having been a qb at uga.

Was first known as a blocking WR but he grew over time to become one of the best in team history. Is there a stat for how many times I’m 8 or more beers (or two pitchers) into a game, I’m watching the Steelers offense, (a tough task no matter what era you’re talking about), it looks like yet another drive is going to stall on a 3rd and long, Hines Ward gets the first down, and he goes back to the huddle with a grin on his face while I have a grin on my face? Most first downs of any receiver on 3rd and long with a frustrating offense during drives that a team needed at that certain point in the game to not stall. Later Heath Miller helped him out with some of that “we really need to convert this third and long to a first down or we’re gonna lose” work.

Hines Ward overrated?! 2 SB rings,SB MVP, he holds the steeler franchise record for most receptions with 1000 receptions, and he was an amazing blocker he'd plow through DBs like a truck! they literally had to change the rules about crackback blocks because of Ward! And Ward is the best Blocking receiver in history, just like Fitz is the best receiver in the postseason, and I'd put Ward at 6 and Fitz at 5 both deserve to be above all the other nobodies like Steve smith and Chad Johnson!

I'm a fan of both players but Hines is definitely ranked higher here. The list isnt who is the best receiver, the list is the best receivers of the 2000s, Fitzgerald joined the league in 2004, so he already missed 4 years out of 10 years on the decade. This is why Torry Holt is ranked #4 and Issac Bruce isnt even on the list even tho Issac was a better player than Torry

Hines Ward is underrated in so many ways. Great hands, moved the chains, had a nose for the end zone, and laid the lumber. He likely would have had better stats if he hadn’t spent the first half of his career with spotty QB play, factor in that in Roethlisberger’s first few years the Steelers were a run first team it’s pretty remarkable that his career stats are as impressive as they are…

Great route runner, and blocker. The guy that will get you the hardest 10 yards cutting through the middle. I love what he adds to a team.

Way too high. He was rarely the leading WR on his own team. That almost always went to guys like Plaxico, Wallace or Holmes. Chad Johnson was no doubt a better player on a worse team. Led the AFC in receiving for a record 4 straight seasons. Yet he's behind the guy who couldn't lead his own team?? Dumb. Steelers bias. He hung around and padded those HOF numbers, btw. He was a good #2 WR known for his dirty hits that are against today's rules. He'd be irrelevant now.

Hines played on a team that threw maybe 20 times a game if he was lucky yet still ended his career top 15 in every category. Hines on a team that passes like the bengals would be top 3 during his time you don’t know what you’re talking about casual.

One of my favorite players of all time, and I don't even like the Steelers. All of the fanfare about his blocking/dirty hits distracted from the fact that he had incredible hands, and he made up for his height challenges by being able to twist himself into whatever position he needed to make a catch. Chad Brown's quote is perfect, because even though Lynn Swann and Antonio Brown have been the most talented WR's in Steeler history, Ward was one of those rarest of players whose presence alone guaranteed his team 2-3 wins per season before it even started.

I will say: Ward is the ONLY player I ever saw get smacked 10 yards through the air by John Lynch, on what was one of his biggest hits of his career, and STILL held on to the ball. He was a truly very solid receiver.
