Pro budget tip for isolation: cut anti-vibration rubber mats as used to isolate washing machines to size as a base for your turntable.

Another thing you can do with the metal platter in addition to adding acrylic mat to it is to fill up its cavity with acoustic material like mineral wool, felt, acoustic foam or acoustic caulk (basically anything that absorb sound) and it won't ring/resonate anymore, or at least not as bad. I've also found that placing a felt sheet under the turntable and on top of whatever it stands on does clear up really nice the high frequencies and they sound much more refined and clean.

I just bought a Pro-Ject T1 BT. I know on the site it mentions upgrading the platter to acrylic but mentions that on some of their other turntable lines. Do you think it would be ok to change my glass platter to an acrylic on that model or would it affect speed...etc?
@bobby6666663 жыл бұрын
I just looked on a website and it shows the two types of Acrylic Platters, but the turntable you have is not listed for them. I suggest you contact Project direct or speak to your local dealer.
@saintmichael17793 жыл бұрын
I have a direct drive TT and I put a new mat and it does just fine. I see that TI BT has belt driven I think it depends on how much is the glass mat weighs. If the acrylic mat weighs less than the glass mat, I think you would be fine. As far as my mats go, I have two. An acrylic mat underneath and a leather mat (suede side up). The leather mat increases the bass response a bit, and there is no static at all. It weighs less than a record, incidentally. Go on Amazon and look under Jake's Turntable Mats. That's where I got mine. Best of luck and stay safe.

Don't forget accurate VTA height based on stylus height. Wrong VTA sounds horrible. And, also adjust Azimuth so stylus tracks groove perfectly central.

He fails to realize that handling the putty transfers all the oils from your hands to the putty and then onto your records. I don't think I would ever use this because of that factor.

You can get an acrylic platter mat for a lot less than the acrylic platter, and it will do very much the same job. Another good reason is it will add very little extra weight to your TT, so there is only minimal adjustments to be made to your TT before using it. I know that there will be those who differ, who will swear that the acrylic platter is irreplaceable and that the acrylic platter mats aren’t nearly as good. Everyone has their own opinion. But I can say by my own experience, I’m very happy with my green lit platter mat that I got from Hudson HiFi. And I don’t mean just the color, either (though it’s certainly is cool looking). The sound quality is a step up from the rubber and cork mats I was using. So, if you’re on a budget or you just don’t want to spend a lot of money, I highly recommend that you purchase an acrylic mat in the color (including clear) of your choice.

I have just started to put my old stereo system together. I have the Yamaha CA 1010 receiver ,Yamaha NS 1000 speakers. My turntable is the AKAI MODEL B110. I have just ordered a cork mat. My question is with a belt drive can I order any acrylic platter. Thanks for any help.
@living_entertainment3 жыл бұрын
That's a good question but unfortunately, I think you will have to talk to someone who specializes in vintage AKAI turntables to get a really accurate answer. I hope you can find the information you are looking for!

Thanks for the quick reply. After reviewing information on the AKAI turntable. The cork mat is all I want to spend. I plan on purchasing I high-end turntable in the near future. I do appreciate all the information there is on vintage stereos.

@@davidyoung7470 You can use an acrylic platter mat on most belt drive TTs. Depending on the one you choose, they usually cost in the $20-30 range, much cheaper than an acrylic platter. And since they’re lighter than a platter, they won’t add the extra weight that a platter would put on the motor. About the only belt drive that I wouldn’t use it on is a Crosley Cruiser type player. But then again, if you have one of those, you probably are not too concerned with sound quality, and are on a budget, so you wouldn’t want one to begin with!!!

hello from Detroit MI, I have been collecting for about 5 years now and i’m looking to make some small changes that could have a potentially big impact on a TT I have currently. My question: would the platter upgrade be suitable for an older Audio Technica Lp-60? Acrylic or Metal?
@living_entertainment3 жыл бұрын
Potentially, Its not a turntable I have had any experience with but an acrylic platter always makes a huge difference to the sound by eliminating vibrations. The LP60 felt mat is also well known for how much static electricity it attracts and the acrylic platter would also eliminate this issue.

@@living_entertainment Thanks for the timely response and the information!!!
@StephenFinkNRP3 жыл бұрын
In the US the LP-60 is a 99 dollar turntable. I think you will find that if you can find an acrylic platter to fit it the cost will be more than the turntable. Look at an acrylic platter mat on Amazon. About 20 dollars.

Can you use a small leveler on the turntable plate vs the ortofon bullseye?
@living_entertainment3 жыл бұрын
You can, Pro-Ject actually sells one, we just prefer to use the bullseye because it shows you both axis at once which we feel allows for greater accuracy.

Their is an app on Android that works great! It has a level designed for flat spaces in other words you can lay your phone on your platter and level it perfectly. There is also an app that measures speed and wow and flutter.

If you're leveling a turntable that doesn't have adjustable feet a good tip is to put a coin (or coins) under the associated feet as shims; they're rigid, the right diameter, cheap (literally pennies!) and available in various thicknesses. Crucial thing is to ensure the deck doesn't wobble afterwards - from this perspective three feet are always better than four.
