I only recently just discovered your channel with the anti B roll video but I'm learning so much from every video you make.

It was supposed to be 2 minutes, but when u talk a lot, time goes fast. Anyways, 2 minutes sounded better so I kept it ;) Looking forward to hear your thoughts on this episode. What would you say is the most common filmmaking mistake?

Excellent video and appreciate the tips. I have watched some video's on Vimeo where the actual story message is good but their B roll just keeps popping in and out every 10 seconds and it just breaks apart the message and makes me move on before it finishes playing. This is when the B roll doesn't even suit the message they are trying to convey. I sure like the way you shot and framed this especially the wide shots. Cheers, Pete

Creative North It's going well, just the last bits of prep to do. I'm going to do the festival circuit first but I'd love to send you a private link.

These are probably the best tips that I have ever gotten! I was listening as a photographer and it clicked! I was trying to find a theme, a story just by thinking and it didn't work)) Now I know why! I don't know what 'develop' means exactly in filmmaking, but I think I get it and I just had a breakthrough and I can not thank you enough for that! AWESOME video!

I think the most common mistake is not doing enough and btw not doing enough mistakes. Nothing's gonna teach us as much as mistakes. "If you want to make a masterpiece, you have to be willing to create a little garbage along the way" - James Clear

I read something interesting, that each time you write a scene, figure out 20 other ways of doing it. It's hard to do but it forces you to ask, is this really the best way it can be done? Or is it just my first idea.
@Jonnyvonwallstrom6 жыл бұрын
Yeah for writers this is def the way to do it. I go about it differently because I shoot early and have that as a process for storytelling. I let the story unfold as I make the film. For the new film I'm making I think it's becoming something very different but similar than the idea I had in the beginning. My last film started as one idea, changed to something very different, then changed back to similar but better than the initial idea. It's just a matter of rewriting and developing all the time to avoid it being predictable and boring.

I'm in pre-production on a stylish documentary on southern italian wine, as seen during my annual bicycle trips around the south. It's to be informative, so I'm structuring it a lot more than it sounds like you do with your more dramatic documentary style
