But other thing is that if Mario was the badguy in DK2, why the people in New Donk City and specially Pauline arent adressing that to Mario? maybe the original DK and DK 2 were set in the Old Donk City, after all its called "New" Donk City so that means there is a Old part of the city or another Donk City entirely. I think nobody mentions it because its pretty obvious that the Goombas are the only species that have more "fun" in the Mushroom Kingdom, thus why they arent allowed in the royal grounds because they arent pure like Toad or Toadette. But now that you mentioned Toadette, why is that she is the only female toad and there is no other one? after all, all toads look the same so there is only 2 options here: -Toadette is the mother of the entire Toad population, so it was quite unconfortable when she had to "attend" some issues with the younglings, hence why she isnt there all the time. -This is a Smurfs syndrome and toads can be harvested for gold? i mean they can be turned into stones that stores gold so, their souls are made of gold and that's why there is so many coins? that or they shit out coins.

The Cupid Costume makes him look like Pit from Kid Icarus. I wish they included costumes from other Nintendo games like they did with Bayonetta. The Broodals being rabbits is tied to the Japanese folktale of the Rabbit on the Moon. You know how us westerners believe the markings on the Moon's surface look like a dude's face? Well the Japanese saw it as a bunny rabbit making Mochi instead, because of course they did. Give the fact that the moon is forshadowed several times as the final destination of the journey, with many shots prominently featuring it, it only makes sense that the main lackeys would be moon theme'd too, hence the rabbit motif. It's actually very possible that the Broodals were originally from the moon given the fact that there's also a cathedral there.

I think your read on the early New Donk concept is a bit off. It seemed like they originally planned for New Donk to be the city Mario comes from, with humans proportioned just like him, and even his Plumber business as a place you can visit. Instead, they made New Donk a surreal land we haven't seen before in which the bizarre denizens resemble humans from our universe. I'm guessing they nixed showing Mario's hometown because they thought it better to let Mario's origins continue to be ambiguous.

Everytime you question Nintendo's ability for creativity or putting more into something, always remember that instead of making DLC for Super Mario Galaxy when the concept was brought up, they decided the interviewer was so right about the content left on the cutting room floor they made an entire sequel that blew away what was considered one of the better games ever made. For me, whenever I see Odyssey all I can think of is the same thing. Odyssey 2 is my most anticipated mainline Mario game now, because Odyssey feels like its just the tip of the iceberg.

The rabbit idea actually makes a lot of sense. The moon is prominently featured in the game, and many cultures associate rabbits with the moon. The most common magician trick is pulling a rabbit from a hat, and Odyssey is all about hats. The Mario + Rabbids crossover likely had nothing to do with it, as Odyssey was in development for longer, and there isn't a single reference to Mario + Rabbids, not to mention that it was handled entirely by Ubisoft, so the development teams wouldn't have shared notes.

When designing games TONS and tons of concept art and brainstorms are going to exist. Some of the them seem way better than the final game but remember that the structure of the game wasn’t final. Something that would look cool in the current game may be bad in earlier concepts. And remember that there’s always time constraints. They can’t include everything. Heck, if we got some of those ideas we might be looking at concept art for the stuff we have now, and wish THAT was in the game. Ideas are always changing and at the end of the day it’s te devs creative choice.

Throwing my hat into the rink--if the finale was always set for the moon, the rabbit motif makes sense in the Broodal's design since rabbits in Japan have always been associated with the moon. In fact our Western 'Man in the Moon' is a 'Rabbit in the Moon' in Japan. Hope that helps a little!

The art in this art book is literally awesome! You seriously cannot hate it! It looks better (the word I should be saying is cooler) than the little cool Sonic Mania Plus art book (which I had when I got a physical copy of the game on Nintendo Switch).

Pretty sure New Donk was a means to recton. Instead of coming from Brooklyn, Mario was a New Donker. The pipes from Mario Bros happened to be an interkingdom transport.
