Its blue plumage makes it unmistakable at any backyard bird feeder and any pictures captured become instantly shareable and for that, we are truly grateful.
Migrating primarily at night, these birds are often referred to as “blue canaries” and can be found along roadways and open fields, often perched in search of their next meal. After spending most of their time in Florida, the Caribbean and Central America during the winter months, they spread across the eastern United States and portions of Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and some of the Canadian Maritimes during their breeding season.
With a recent influx of these sightings here in our area, we thought it to be fitting to compile a quick list of what makes these colourful birds truly unique.

Amazing that these intelligent, beautiful blue birds can fly from Brazil to US to raise their families and return to Brazil or Caribbean. Love.

I swear I saw one of these about a month ago. In Victor, NY, near Rochester. Spent about an hour on the internet trying to identify it and convinced myself this was it. I'd never seen a bright blue bird here before.

I live in northern Illinois, and I saw a dark blue bird eating from my feeder this afternoon. I originally thought it was a blue finch, but I found they live in Brazil and Bolivia. I am wondering if it could have been the indigo bunting that I saw. If anyone knows, I would greatly appreciate some ideas!!!

One stops by for a visit every spring on his way north. I feed him every year. Now he has a female with him. A pretty little blond. 😁😆. I hope they stay for awhile.

My little buddy and mate did settle down here in the brambles below my window; they fledged one clutch and then moved on. I pray they come back next year. 💁🏻‍♂️

Interesting! There certainly has been a lot reported this year. I may have seen one in the yard the other day but it flew too quickly for me to confirm.
