I can so agree with your points! Uncertainty is a huge factor as an international student. I’ve never realized I thought a lot about how I make things work. Thank you for sharing!

The whole accent thing is so true and we all have accents in varying degrees. The Nigerian and South African ones are just so strong and unmistakable lol. I studied in Cape Town and was just 1 of 3 black students un a predominantly white class. The one Nigerian girl among us had a very strong Nigerian accent and often felt uncomfortable asking questions because no one ever understood her unfortunately. Sometimes I as a Cameroonian would have to help explain what she was saying. It was really unfortunate how culture can affect one's academic progress 😊

The part about sitting beside someone in class for 5 semesters without being friends with them is soo true..lol. You can even have a 30 min conversation with some students here and the next day, they will pass you by like you are a random stranger.

Yes ,that's so true and it's funny how some Africans now are copying there culture i mean if we share same class I don't get why you would give me a strange look when we meet along corridors the next semster especially my fellow African.

People are very fake towards blacks; I noticed that people avoid bw not wanting to mingle or seen with them. I have seen a lot of black international students lonely without anyone. I was an international student as well and had a lot of mean people in my way. However, I kinda learned to stand up and become a strong person. I’m glad that i left the US though. Mentally US is very draining

If I have the opportunity to come back to this life the second time or choose, I will not go to Nigerian poor family because people almost kill me me calling and disturbing me for money because I’m abroad and the reality is people back home in Nigeria are far far better than us that are struggling here inside cold and unfriendly weather here abroad. Honestly it’s dépressive.
@AdelekeAugustus
@AdelekeAugustus 3 жыл бұрын
I feel that. Key thing is to always remember that nobody from home can help you financially, so always put your need first, and if you have enough you can send to them. You're a student, struggling to survive in a country where you have no relative! Don't let any family member guilt-trip you into doing more than you can handle.

I came in college and I got As all the way. People were not happy! Some tried telling that me the subject would be too difficult and I’d regret continuing . Some so surprised how a foreigner could get As.

@@AdelekeAugustus America is great the biggest problem is the cultural shock and legal paper work in order to work legally in most Companies and sectors. If you are a foreigner America demands SSN and authorisation from the US Govt or a work permit as established under US Law.

@AdelekeAugustus
@AdelekeAugustus 4 жыл бұрын
F1 visa is not affected by the travel ban. The issue most students are having is that the embassy is closed so they cant go for visa interview. But if you can appear for your interview, i'd say you should do it.

idek wat to do like i’m gonna start college next year in the states so i’m basically movin there too on my own. same as u i’m also the kind of person who could literally be on my own forever. but i would still wanna make some frds from different places to hv a more vibrant college life. for example, how could i just walk to strangers n say hey my name is nat, n then wat am i gonna say next? also the fact that i’m chinese makes me even more self conscious, especially when talkin to americans, i’ll just keep thinkin sth like ‘would they not wanna talk w me cuz my ethnicity’ theres just this vicious cycle of thots goin on…
