I am not sure it is obvious that you have a sight impairment which you may well consider a disadvantage as I suppose it could well make things easier for you when meeting strangers. Most of us want to look and appear perfect even if we are crumbling inside. The ability to entertain humour especially at one's own expense is very close to humility and what a freeing character attribute it is. To learn to laugh at oneself is indeed a major freedom in life. You reminded me of Darwins theory of adaptability....perhaps you are proving out his theory.
