This video demonstrates how to place electrodes for a 5 lead placement for a cardiac/telemetry monitor for a patient to wear during a hospitalization. I discuss the Right Arm Lead (RA), Right Leg Lead (RL), V1 chest lead, Left Arm Lead (LA), Left Leg Lead (LL) and how to remember the placement of a telemetry monitor white, green, brown, black, and red (snow over grass, smoke over fire, and chocolate in the middle)

New RN orientating in emergency, came to watch this after placing my electrodes wrongly. Asked my preceptor to double check with me but asked me to figure it out. Came here on my supper break to figure it out. Thank you Sarah.

not much of a preceptor, part of preceptorship is sharing knowledge passing on to new employees/ those employees will remember those educational advice. I still remembee all those advice/ technique from whom after more than a decade :)

AWESOME! Explained efficiently and easily understood! My chapter over-explained the placements which confused me. Thank you Nurse!

is it on the legs or on the space immediately under the last rib?

While this is the most common variation I found some old leads once with a different combination of colors as well. So you may come across alternatives as well!

@@itumamariaoluchukwu8124 As far as I can make out after reading about electrical conductivity the legs are more of a guide and so are the arms. It should not matter too much the precise location of the sticker. It is more about the direction of the electrical flow from the source so you could place it anywhere from legs to under the heart anywhere you like as long as it is in the correct direction. This is if you are talking about the LL lead. The LL, RA and and LA lead all follow the same principle. With RA of course have to be placed to the right and above the heart (if you place it in arms that counts electrically the same as being clavicle height) . The RL lead is a ground and as far as I understand you could place it anywhere you like. Even on your forehead if you so desire :) But do correct me if I'm wrong!

It's worth saying that buttoning the electrodes onto the leads before placing them on the patient is best policy. It's a lot more comfortable for the patient, otherwise thank you for the refresher😊

I do have a question. What do you suggest for artifact? Meaning, the pectoral muscles are creating a great deal of artifact, for example Parkinson's tremors. Where could I put the electrodes in that case?
