4:57 you don’t have to ask someone if they have perfect pitch; they will tell it to you
@1412mariLU8 ай бұрын
I had a music theory professor who didn't tell his students. He gave it away in one of the very last lessons, because he mentiones something only somebody with perfect pitch would know, so we figured it out. But it wasn't his intention to tell us. So yes, *most* people with perfect pitch will tell you without being asked. But not every single person ;)

@@1412mariLUWhat did he mention?
@1412mariLU8 ай бұрын
@@salomaocabral8816 I don't fully remember. We were looking at progressions and one student played something at the piano. (This is where my memory isn't clear anymore.) I think the prof said, that it remembers him of a different piece but that this other piece is in a different key. At this point he was sitting across the room and couldn't possibly see what key the student was playing in. We got suspicious and he got a little shy and admitted he had perfect pitch. We always just thought that he was a true master in hearing any note in any chord progression, because he had amazing relative hearing abilities and was super quick transposing things in his mind. I mean, he still was super quick with written music as well and a great teacher in general. But I asked a couple of other students that had him in different classes and they also didn't know he had perfect pitch.

I had my first ever solo performance with orchestra a month ago playing lark ascending. It was very hot and midway through the first cadenza, my d string slipped flat by a quarter of a tone or so. In a piece where the overtones are so important and the open d is used so much, it was less than ideal to say the least (and this was my first performance with orchestra and I was playing with no music). It was definitely an experience.
