The witch already said the only way to cross the river is to swim across it, meaning it wouldn't freeze over. So if you're allowed to make the false assumption that because it's winter time the river will be frozen (not all rivers freeze in winter) then you can make any assumptions you want. I said after 100 days a bridge was built. But someone could have built a dam and it was now a dry river bed.
@uncledavid53447 жыл бұрын
The same goes for most of these riddles. You can make any assumptions you want if you're not given enough information. For the lug nut one I said "put bubble gum on the end of the stick" then the nut will stick to the gum. The reason the adult didn't think about is because he didn't have bubble gum but the kid did because kids love bubble gum."
@uncledavid53447 жыл бұрын
And why if we're already told that the only one witness told the truth and the others told one lie and one truth are we to assume the cop was telling the truth?
@stephenbrady257 жыл бұрын
very true, that riddle didn't hold water (pardon the pun) also a couple of other points, he rode the road for 100 days to the river so why would anybody make a road that long that just deadends at a river with no way accross, if it took him 100 days riding a horse to get there how would the witch know about it being soooo far away from her, he could have just swam across if it was too deep to ride over. the prisoner 1 also has more then 1 answer, the second man could have busted the 3rd higher by pushing his feet with his hands or even just crossed his arms over his head and the 3rd man stand on there adding at least 6 more inches to the total height

#2 ~ If the answer states that it was September in the beginning then it the final answer is applicable as we can assume it's in the Northern Hemisphere instead however, it makes it an effort at being an uncertainty principle as it does not infer relative location and due to geo-location of seasons in the hemispheres, Winter is at the end of the year for the Northern Hemisphere, Winter is at around mid-early of the year for the Southern Hemisphere If not enough information makes it about the relative location according to seasons then it's not a riddle but a play of assumptions

Goltas And your point is? Read what I said again and you'll understand how it's not a puzzle or even a logical puzzle, you'll see that there is an error/misconception Seasons run differently in the hemispheres meaning the months are different, if you can't think for yourself then the educational system in your country has failed you Summer is at the end of the Southern Hemisphere for example, so then 100 days from then is not September, it's May, June and July and if we don't have information about the geo-location or relative location then all it is was just a play of assumptions based on the uncertainty principle

@amirahlee7 жыл бұрын
The narrator said five out of six witnesses had 1 right & 1 wrong answer. Only one bystander got both details right. He also said we should take the policeman's trusted account as a starting point. From here onwards, you need to do an elimination based on the policeman's account that it was really going fast. Take a look at the table here: Woman 1: Blue car + man Man 1: Fast + headlights off Woman 2: License plate + not fast Man 2: Toyota + headlights off Woman 3: No license plates + woman Woman 4: Grey car + Ford Now look at how I do my elimination based on the prime fact that it was going "fast", and follow the elimination numbers 1-5: Woman 1: Blue car + man (Elimination 3) Man 1: Fast + headlights off Woman 2: License plate + not fast (Elimination 1) Man 2: Toyota (Elimination 5)+ headlights off Woman 3: No license plates (Elimination 2) + woman Woman 4: Grey car (Elimination 4) + Ford Hence, once you gather them together, it was a female driver in a blue Ford with license plates and the headlights are turned off. Hope that helps!
@AR-bc6ls7 жыл бұрын
Number 4 made me upset lol it said the police tracked the person leaving the scene fast. That has nothing to do with the speed the person was going when the incident occurred. Because if that, I got a different answer that works perfectly with no ambiguous information. Here are the statements: 1. Blue Car, man driver 2. Fast, headlights off 3. Had license plates, slow 4. Toyota, headlights off 5. No license plates, woman driver 6. Grey car, Ford We know from the beginning that the headlights are off since there was no conflicting information. So I figured if I follow the logical trail as if everyone only had one right, then the logical path will reveal the one that had both right, as long as it doesn't conflict with any other statement we've taken as truth. From #2 and #4, if there are no headlights, then its not fast or a toyota. Which means it is slow and is a ford from #3 and #6. That in turn means there were no license plates and the car wasnt grey. That brings us to #1 and #5. If its not grey, then its blue. But now we have a natural overlap. If there are no license plates, then it wasnt a woman driver. It was a male. Which would put the #1 statement as the fully true one Answers from this logic 1. Brand: Ford 2. Color: Blue 3. Speed: Slow 4. Plates: No 5. Lights: Off 6. Gender: Man If I'm missing a flaw in this logic, please let me know! That benefits me so I can think better next time. I just don't like how the police information was technically not relevant since the driver could've been going slower when he hit the guy, and sped from the scene, which would be why the officer tracked him going fast when he was leaving the scene.
@shyakyra7 жыл бұрын
Your logic allows for various right answers that's why it can not be used. I will explain.. You already got one part of the results that gives you the #1 as the correct person but using your formula the # 6 can also be the correct person with different results. lets say it is like you say "No headlights" as a true statement since no one opposed it, so... 1. Blue Car, man driver 2. Fast, headlights off 3. Had license plates, slow 4. Toyota, headlights off 5. No license plates, woman driver 6. Grey car, Ford --- 2 and 4 are right with Headlights off, that means it's slow and not a Toyota. 3 is correct with slow so that means it doesn't have license plate. 5 is correct with no license plate so it's not a woman 1 is correct with man driver but it's not blue that means 6 is correct with grey car also ford since it's not a Toyota. That's why your logic can't be used or correct. Because it allows for various formulas to be right (#1 and #6 are the correct information), and only 1 formula should be the right option.

I agree some of these riddles were very poorly written and when you have to make an Assumption that the Police officer is being truthful when the riddle clearly stated that he didn't even see the accident, and only saw the car driving away from the scene. Okay so I'm not the only one to notice that! Like how were we supposed to guess it was blue when the colors given to us were grey and red?!
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
They were blue and grey. You're not meant to guess or assume anything, you're meant to work it out with logic. Pity bright side didn't bother doing that, and then felt he had to change the puzzle to justify his incorrect answer.
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
You can't change things, or you're answering a different puzzle, unless you made the change in the actual puzzle and keep the same details in the answer, but that would just mess the puzzle up. Besides if you ASSUME the policeman is telling the truth and work from that, then all the witnesses lied and that conflicts with the puzzle. So the answer in the video is most definitely, absolutely, completely and utterly, totally wrong! We might as well say "it was the Bolivian navy on manouvers in the south paciffic" :D "the first person states it was a blue car. while later on someone else states it was a ford and it was gray." - No! Witness 1 says "it was a blue car, it was driven by a man", witness 6 said "it was a grey ford". Clearly "blue car" and "grey ford" are single statements, which makes person 6 the one who told the truth. "Blue car" also has two bits of information, and yet no one claims it's two statements, so how and why is "grey ford" two statements? If we decide, that "grey ford" is two statements, then we can at best only rule out witness 4, leaving no solution. This proves that either this way is folly, or the puzzle is very badly constucted. Or we can use our brains and skip this folly all together. If we realise that "grey ford" is of course the same as "blue car", except more specific and a different colour, then it's obvious witness 6 is the one who told the truth, we can check this and see that if any of the other witnesses were the one that "only told the truth" then only four of the witnesses told one truth and one lie, this conflicts with the puzzle and so it has to be witness 6. The only way to reach a solution is to work from what witness 6 says. I really fail to see why people have such a hard time realising that "grey ford" is one statement, to me it's always been completely obvious, there was never any doubt. I first heard this when I was 7, I can't remember whether (back then) the question was who was the culprit or not, but I immediately realised it was the policeman and that witness 6 told the truth, I then spent a few minutes asking for the puzzle to be repeated and working out the details to prove it. Unfortunately I have to use paper now and it takes far longer :( esp to confirm the other possibilities don't work. Maybe everyone's just too occupied trying to justify bright sides idiotic answer to realise the obvious and work it out for themselves.

@tylercole15476 жыл бұрын
+Kody Manning Yeah they used points from every witness other than the one that said the car was travelling slow, because he said that every witness stated both one wrong and one right factor about the car, the first witness said the car was blue and the last said that it was a gray ford, the right factor being the brand (Ford) instead of the colour. He made it confusing by making the car blue on the last witness so I see the misconceptions but I got what Bright Side was trying to get at here.
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
"they said for each witness, they gave one right and one wrong aspect, the aspect was within the brand stated, not the colour." - One witness told only the truth remember. "The car was a grey ford" is a single statement, not two statments like "The car was blue; The driver was...;" All we know is that one of the witnesses told the truth, we have to work from there. Since 5 of the witnesses each made two statements, the one person we know is telling the truth is witness 6, trace it back and we find out the policeman is lying. Why would you change the details round for no reason, it sounds like extra work and it changes the puzzle. You can't change the puzzle! "He made it confusing by making the car blue on the last witness so I see the misconceptions but I got what Bright Side was trying to get at here." - it's not a misconception, he really did change the details which makes it an accurate observation. What was he trying to get at then?

XeanderMan But England still goes by monarchy and Japan at one time did to and so does Barbados Bahamas and a part in Jamaica all still have monarchy meaning the potential for a "prince" and if we were going by Grim fairy tales then yes it would be taken place in the northern hemisphere
@blockman35087 жыл бұрын
None of those are monarchies. They're Constitutional Monarchies, meaning they have a 'ruler' which has no power, and an actual (slightly more boring) government official running everything behind. Like England, for example; the Queen doesn't really have any power: it's the Prime Minister that does that.
@tommydashed42057 жыл бұрын
Blockman 350 In England that's a delegation of power. The queen can dissolve parliament and call for new elections, so basically she can fire the prime minister and his entire cabinet.

there are several variations of the same riddle each with a similar reasoning. in truth the fourth man is irrelevant and could be reworded as there are two hats one color and one hat of a different color. it's also possible to ask the men in order instead of allowing them to speak any time. but no matter what. the answer is always based on "I learn something because others can't make a decision"
@mindsofeuropa29557 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it would be a better riddle with just three men and having them speak in turn beginning with the first one. Otherwise the second guy is making an assumption when he answers as the first man could just be taking his time or be a really slow thinker.

"With the information given the only answer is that the river iced over. There is no info given that can lead to a bridge being built or the river drying up." There is no information on the freezin part, either. In fact the riddle (the witch) literally says there is no other way than swimming to cross the river. And then the answer is that there is another way than swimming. Bad riddle.

Where are you people from? The Charles River in Boston frozen from one side to the other just a couple years ago. And there a lot of places colder than Boston. If you worry that the Charles is too small, consider that parts of the Great Lakes also froze a couple years ago. When it's cold, water freezes. If the air temperature is 20 degrees below the freezing point, it will freeze enough for moving water to slow down and then freeze.

I think it would be the second one who would yell first since he sees only one hat and would assume everyone is wearing the same colour. That's what I thought too, but the phrasing was important. It said the others all gave one true "piece of information" and one false one. I think they made the last one a single statement to throw you off. As a whole, "It was a gray Ford" was a single false statement, but the car being gray and it being a Ford were two different "pieces of information", one true and one false. Frustrating, I know, but it is logically sound.

So these riddles' answers have issues. You said he dropped 4 lugnuts but he only got 3 by taking 1 from each wheel. They all have 3 now but that means all of his tires aren't safely secured. Winter temperatures aren't always enough to freeze a river, and the ice isn't always thick enough. Just my problems so far

Just saying, 3 bolts on a tire is fine, just don't make super sharp turns or anything, esp if the car started on 4 lugnuts

@animeownzall "Winter temperatures aren't always enough to freeze a river, and the ice isn't always thick enough" - Your point is completely irrelevant. Unless you are saying it's impossible because it doesn't always happen? In which case you're wrong, and completely mad. Do you know what a puzzle is? Have you ever heard of logic? "all of his tires aren't safely secured" - but they are all secured. FirstDream Gaming has a good point, so I won't repeat it.
@lich1096 жыл бұрын
Almost as if he should've gone directly to a service station right afterwards... oh wait that's what they said he did. I do have a problem with the river riddle though, they never said where the place was so it could easily have been a place with the issues you suggested, like the river not freezing. My guess was that the tunic worked like a life jacket and so the prince technically didn't need to wear it to cross the river, and the way they phrase it makes it almost a lie of omission since the witch says he needs the jacket, and they say he didn't need to wear it, as opposed to he didn't need it at all. I suppose that saying he didn't need it would make the answer too obvious, however that doesn't remove the issue that at this point it's practically a lie in and of itself.

Yeah and the river was obviously flowing, and that would slow down the freezing. Also, he didn’t tell where the prince was, for example in africa rivers wont propably freeze.

For number 2, you didn't even need to use the tunic. Also, if you live in Florida (like me) the river wouldn't freeze
@PointGiven6 жыл бұрын
For the Prince Charming it depends where the river was.
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's fairy tale land, or Europe or who cares. We know they have summer and therefore must have a winter of some kind. The only clue is winter, winter implies cold. How can winter/cold remove the need to swim? Freeze the river. There is nothing else we can infer from the information in the puzzle, so unless you can think of another way winter can remove the need for swimming...
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
There's nothing to suggest anything else happened. You clearly don't know how logic puzzles work.
@lich1096 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what logic is. If the riddle says the only way to cross is to swim, then that logically means there's only one way to cross and that if there is more than one way to cross, then the riddle lied to you. There's also nothing to suggest the river could freeze, in fact it's the opposite when you apply logic to it.
@drunkenmonkey14576 жыл бұрын
The riddle didn't say the only way to cross is to swim. The riddle said nothing on the subject, the witch did. Therefore the river freezing is not a contradiction of the puzzle. It's not even a contradiction of the witches word, you can't include the river freezing as a method of crossing it unless it's expected to freeze and even then it's only a method as long as the conditions apply. Winter and the fact he crossed without swimming, when there was no other way, suggests it. In the real world you would be correct, there would be time for another method to become available etc, and we wouldn't be able to deduce the river froze from the information available, there would be multiple possibilities. I'd agree with you 110%. However it isn't the real world, it's a logic puzzle, the whole idea is to deduce the answer from the information available. The only answers that can be supported by the information, have to come from winter. There is no other way, at least that anyone has suggested, that winter could provide an answer except to freeze the river.
@lich1096 жыл бұрын
The witch is a part of the riddle, in fact she's the source of the riddle since it's based around her information and the prince not using her tunic. If you're seriously claiming it's not then you're lying. I've already gone over everything else, winter is not a clue, time passing is, and anything could have happened in between when the prince left the witch and arrived at the river. There is nothing to suggest the river can freeze in the riddle.
