I thought Dick Elliot portrayed the perfect mayor of Mayberry. He always tested the wind direction before committing to a position. And he fit in well sitting in Floyd's just shooting the breeze with the guys. A real man of the people. Will Wright was also the perfect grouchy tightwad. He was mid-60s when he did The Christmas Story, but looked like he was 80+. Cheerio Meredith was also a perfect fit as a citizen of Mayberry. Quirky and eccentric, she was loved by her fellow citizens in spite, and perhaps because, of her unique personality. Great, great episode, Bob.

Considering all the folks who appeared on TAGS, it's inevitable some would pass during its production. Admittedly all these actors were up in years. Nowadays they might have gotten a brief tribute at the end of an episode. We see that on occasion. In some cases the deceased person worked behind the scenes. Who knew that this show would play such a big part in their long careers? Yet some actors on the show lived very long lives. Burt Mustin lived until the late 70s.

I thought Mcnair was one because he got sick during production!
@garyferguson11057 ай бұрын
From Wikipedia: In 1963, he suffered a stroke that rendered most of the left side of his body paralyzed. He left the series for nearly a year and a half to recover. Andy Griffith asked McNear to return to the series. McNear agreed despite being unable to walk or stand, and the production crew accommodated him accordingly. Floyd was subsequently seen onscreen either seated or standing with support. Many scenes were shot with him sitting on a bench outside the barber shop.

He passed after the show ended. He had to leave after not being able to handle doing it anymore. If you watch "goobers contest" (his last episode) you can really see how he was struggling

The main reason the show died was when it went from black & white to the color format. The writing suffered along with the move to color. Many shows remained in B&W because it cost over $10,000 per episode to film in color back then.
