It’s heartbreaking when the person that is supposed to guide ,love and teach you , degrades,aggravates and belittles you. What you need to learn to do is to calmly stop him ,then tell him that you won’t tolerate being yelled at (setting a boundary) and then proceed to tell him that you would be happy to have an adult conversation together when he is prepared too do so and gently end the call. Your father doesn’t know how to respect or set boundaries for himself, so he couldn’t have taught you this skill either. Boundary setting for yourself and others,is an important part of developing self confidence and self esteem. Best wishes on your journey 🙏🏻

I guess there are questions about narcissism that I have. 1. Can being around certain type of people turn you narcissist? Like, instinctively going that route? 2. Is there a way to look out for these habits and to deal it before it gets too far? 3. Does it involve admitting things that you don't want to believe or admit about yourself? (In other words, open up)

I believe in first case yes, in relationship or also in relationship with parents. If they are narcissistic the child is often too, because they can not fight it anymore so they just join. And the same for long term relationships or marriage.
@KissedOrBitten
@KissedOrBitten Жыл бұрын
For the first question, I would say no. I don’t think you become a narcissist by being around a narcissist BUT you can take on behaviors of a narcissist. This is where it can get tricky. As a child, you can learn to manipulate for communication because you learn from your environment. As we get older, we become more aware of this but still can take on behaviors of others. Those narcissistic behaviors that we may do are hard to recognize and require an outside source to show them. The reason is, you don’t know what you don’t know. Even if you know that you are working on not manipulating others, there are many ways you could be doing it without knowing.

I've experienced emotional abuse in my life at age 15 from my dad because he wouldn't say good night to me and my mom for no reason meaning for isolation from the rest of us. I always questioned why he would do that and I would say to my mom "dad never said good night to us" and feeling sad inside realizing my dad was never the same person I thought he would be. His way of making points were poor due to not wanting to hear my mom's thoughts and they would argue about it but later on after my parents divorce I had to forgive him for all he has done. We're on good terms but I say little as possible.

This video really hit hard for me. I've had a friend that I always felt had total control over me and used many different manipulative tactics to keep me under his wing, almost never being able to speak out of intense fear or being seen as going against him. One of these things was he would use my naive personality to pull me into topics about sex and would test my tolerance levels by telling me about different sexual topics that I've never knew about and wish I never had any knowledge of. (TW for the next sentence in play. If you feel any type of discomfort with sexual topics, you can stop here.) He would tell me about his different sexual likings, some that may have been possible paraphilias that I could've fallen into. In the end, I fell into feeling as if shaming these ideas of sex was a bad thing and would dismiss them, in hopes of not hurting my friends' feelings. I'm taking the steps to recover from these feelings and have cut off from this friend. I also feel I need some advice for how to break away from these feelings and sexual urges. If you have any advice or comments for me, feel free to tell me! Anything would help!

I was just now able to get out of a toxic and manipulative friendship after 2 years in the dark. He was toxic, manipulative, and he would guilt trip me when I didn’t help him with his mental issues. Thankfully, thanks to another friend, I was able to get out of that friendship. I always struggle with depicting being a friend from being manipulated and used, and it will take some time for me to figure that difference out. I still have toxic friendships, that I’m working on getting out of. One of them I’ve been friends with for 7 years, going onto 8. I don’t know how to leave them, as they make me happy, but they also put all their problems on me and encourage me to ignore people who are my friends.

Trigger warning for mention of assault and intimate partner violence Nearly a year ago on August 24th, 2022 I unknowingly entered a relationship with a covert narcissist. That same evening we officialised our relationship, he coerced me into drinking until I was black out drunk before he had sex with me while I was unconscious. I had no recollection of this but began experiencing night terrors and flashbacks through increments of what I could remember. I won’t further go into detail as I’m in the process of taking legal action against him for this and an array of other awful things he did to me, but he’d constantly coerce and guilt trip me into drinking to the point of extreme intoxication before unsafely engaging in sexual acts. In my opinion, covert narcissism is literally one of the most dangerous forms of narcissism…

I luckily got experience dealing with them so he's very vindictive now against me because I don't follow all his orders as a woman should and go against them very often. Most amusing part is that his siblings is on his side, well most of them, but his nieces is actually on my side. I luckily found the signs very early on and they are going to break up soon, well when we move so he can go back to his sister/nieces house.

Talk to them about a problem you're having an either tell you how to "fix it" and if you take the advice and it doesn't work they'll gaslight that they didn't offer that to you or find a reason you didn't do it exactly as they said. If you don't take their advice they'll get offended and argue with you and guilt/shame you. Or something my parents would do a lot, you tell them a problem you're having and they then start talking about their past and how bad it was for them, you would hear this story over and over to the point you could finish their sentence and if you interrupt it's "Let me finish." followed by another hour of their past. Keep interrupting and your rude and trying to dominate the discussion.

Could count in the sexual coercion aspect that a narcissist continuously sends you inappropiate pictures of himself such as half naked selfies? Or continuously cries to you that he's a virgin and needs desperately to get out of his virginity under the excuse that he doesn't "want to be a virgin loser"? My ex boss used those tactics against me while he had a girlfriend. He constantly triangulated me and even accused me of interferring in his relationship when all I was is an employee and friend. My ex girlfriend also used to control me and she made everything about herself, even guilty tripped me all time and made me feel like a monster whenever I wanted to do a hobby or activity on my own, spend my time with someone else or just didn't comply with what she wanted. She kept me chained to msn from very early in the afternoon until 6 am everyday. Even until today, my ex-girlfriend spent almost 10 years cyberbullying me and stalking me in my social media and personal website. Almost 15 years of complete narcissistic abuse cycles between friends, bosses and romantic partners... damn, I just could have spent those years better.

Kind of cruel don't you think? But i can kind of relate because I've been dealing with a classmate's bullying for the past 8 years , I've always stood up for myself and even tried to ignore then but nothing ever happened.that guy still made fun of every aspect of my life , every mistake that i make , about everything, and when i stood up for myself he just tried to act like a poor innocent soul that doesn't do anything bad .Sometimes it's even tiring to even stand up for myself.... I really don't know what to do , even telling the teachers what happened won't do anything.....he's just like the devil

@@just.a.normaldude7013 I know a few people like that just remember don’t trust what they saw (coz gaslights and rumours they spread) Don’t feel empathy for them but make sure not to make it obvious you don’t care and constantly try to move away from them if you can’t just don’t do anything they saw constantly try to avoid them like play in a different place than usual (if ur a child) or if your an adult eat your lunch away from them but when you hang out with another group of friends and they bully follows you to that friend group you don’t leave coz they wanna mess around with you and see how much you’ll move. And ultimately just ignore them if you aren’t doing anything they try to manipulate u into doing and you don’t lash out or seem to care eventually they will seek out other people to try and manipulate instead of you since they will have trouble with you but I dunno that’s just my personal experience.

My fiancee does all these things and more. When I wouldn't go get the marriage license when she wanted, she went to the bedroom threw a tantrum. She spent 2-3 days like I didn't exsist. She didn't talk to me for several days and then called called 911 and 4 cops and an ambulance showed up. She had told the 911 operator I held her against her will the last 3 days. As I explaid to the police that she went to the bank, gas station and a store they sent another officer to check video at several places and quickly saw the truth. I had called her parents the lead officer asked them has she dine things like this before. They said growing up she always made things up needed to be the center of attention. I was like and why didn't anyone tell me. This was all just the start of signs of her manipulating game. Why is it I can't break away from her why do I still try. I had a horrible childhood and have felt other gave up on me. She says everyone gives up on her. I'm a Combat Marine I see a therapist but I feel like I'm losing my mind. The obvious thing is to tell her to kick rocks I know but not sure why I can't.

My instinct is like my luck. Doesn't seem to very good. Or it's like when I was a young tacker I didn't know about instinct because I thought everyone just wanted to play sport with me. Next thing I knew I'm being punched in the head for something I have no idea about. Fast forward don't bother being happy people just want to shit on you as soon as they can. Now I'm 38 and back on dexies after 18 year hiatus, wouldn't say I'm depressed but I'm numb to the world because of how I've been treated, (ugly, skinny, stupid, up to the worst things imaginable) but it's like the world sucks you into its bullshit whirlwind & spits you out at some point. Then you try & gather yourself but your so disorientated you're not sure who to trust anymore as so called friends have ditched you at the tip of a hat. Now that awful instinct tries to intervene & say I told you...

@@visalsilva the problem is I'm not exactly sure about trauma, I don't know. I genuinely do not know. I never slept until adult life properly. I had constant terrors, being decapitated at 6-7 years old on a nightly basis or being chased down by giant robots, or aliens killing me, but I don't know where that even came from initially other than maybe my own parents fighting. I was a bed wetter until 12 & my so called mate turned on me and went around telling everyone at school, to be part of the douchebag club. I think I actually just worked it out, my mother freezes fear into me by saying a robber will break into our house, blah blah blah, in order to gain control. I froze in bed because I was afraid to get in trouble for being out of bed to go to the toilet as no one would ever listen to me anyway, (probably why I'm so quiet everyone says) there was potentially a robber, I even saw an alien, ghosts as well which really my imagination, from the unsettling silence which disturbed the hell out of me. True or false? _”The child of two narcissistic parents must also be a narcissist, whether by heredity, upbringing, or other intrinsic factors.”_ What’s your perspective? 🤔 Personally, I reason this to be false; as humans, we each have freedom of will, and with that comes the potential for mindfulness and, ultimately, choice in the kind of person we aspire to be. Just as someone raised by one or more narcissistic guardians repeat the pattern, so too may they recognise the potential harm in passing on such traits to their descendants, using their experiences to buck the trend, break the mould, and build an image of integrity, fairness, and compassion for all.
@RyanNerdyGamer
@RyanNerdyGamer Жыл бұрын
@@mykolas8575 Seeing these traits in my parents and how their lives have turned out as a result, I see it as an opportunity to utilise that “expertise” in a way that ensures I _don’t_ succumb, and instead use it as a codex on traits to avoid both in myself and others, instead choosing to be mindful, respectful, and compassionate. Of course, I kinda fell into the opposite extreme for too long, in part to avoid becoming a narcissist myself… that creates its own mess of toxicity, including a broken, highly critical self-image that’s still on the mend even now, so it’s certainly a fine line between. I know it’s absolutely possible to have a supportive, well-balanced social life, and it’s that kind of community spirit free from extreme narcissism that I support and encourage every step of the way.

@@RyanNerdyGamer Yea, so, avoiding. I avoided people in General, coz aß coping Skill, I did the exact opposite of what my Mom did. Also Not healthy. I wished for Connection, but was Programmed to BE distant (Attachment Style/wound). But even that, WE can unlearn and If WE are aware of self, WE can do Training. With deep Relationships, IT can get very hard, coz U feel intensly...I was triggered by those I Love the Most...so Not easy to heal
@RyanNerdyGamer
@RyanNerdyGamer Жыл бұрын
@@SeelenTaucher Absolutely. Of course, just because a task isn’t easy doesn’t mean it isn’t worth fulfilling, though it’s crucial to respect that each person face such trials at their own pace, and everyone’s experiences and coping mechanisms are unique. At the end of the day, what matters is those who choose to face their past traumas and ultimately recover from them, whether in whole or in part, do so in the way that feels right, and that they need not face the challenge or shoulder the burden alone if they would benefit from mutual support. Humans are, after all, social creatures by their very nature. When working in unison, there’s no limit to what can be accomplished, and that is always a beautiful dynamic when it comes to the idea of “better than ever before”. 💞

False. Children with both narcissistic parents are weaklings who have low self-esteem. Strong parents tend to produce weak children. The child would more likely suffer from emotional abuse and develop other kinds of disorders. Being manipulated since birth makes a person easy to be manipulated.

@echillykahlil

At the risk of self victimization and self demonization, 1. It makes you feel really small and unseen, kinda like you're an extension of someone else, and it makes it difficult to break the cycle. 2. Unfortunately I have a weak sense of self, I know the mirroring is pretty maladaptive, boundaries are hard and adopting someone else's thoughts and behaviors unwillingly is distressing and disempowering. 3. The only thing I'll say, is there's something frightfully satisfying when she relaxes after resistance, but I assume this is more about using sex, or the lack of it, to control and influence another person, or to assault them into a submissive position. I've withheld sex before as a means of control, the fear of it happening to me and some lack of control in childhood probably, but something tells me I needed to have some sort of leverage in my favor, some authority of some kind. I don't know. 4. Vindictiveness, narcissistic rage... I was taught when I was little to be silent, rather than angry. And I'm always angry, especially when I was a child. Violent outbursts that were only appropriate within the home, eventually became silent turmoil that just built until I took it out on someone. I would like to blame my environment and the broken people around me, abuse or neglect or something, but in the end I'm still really uncomfortable with conflict and if I let it I'll ruminate (Hey, I wonder if that word is based on Rumi the mystic? Anyway) and let it build until I feel like I'm going to have a heart attack. And the people I surround myself with habitually, are more likely to be silent and so I don't easily make scenarios where I feel safe and comfortable breaking that habit of silence and avoidance. Having no expectations helps, because there's nothing that can go wrong if I don't expect anything, so there's fewer triggering events. I'm not usually vengeful, but I chalk that up to not being smart enough or conniving enough to implement, because I know there's a lot of me that wants to hurt the other person, and when I can, it takes a lot of mental strength and willpower to remain silent, if I do. I've made a mess recently because I have gone back to writing it out when I stop myself from saying it. 5. This is one I'm not really guilty of, and find myself hating. I stand alone a lot, and I've come to hate people that blindly takes sides without thinking it through, because I've been right, and been ganged up on. Because it's unsafe to express my thoughts and opinions because of third parties, and I end up doubting myself or knowing that nothing I do will get through. Maybe they developed this as a defense against me in the first place, maybe I'm the victim, I dunno. They're old patterns I can't unseat and don't wish to engage in. I'm not sure why I felt the need to share this, but I guess I needed to share it, even if it was just so I'd see it.
