Just an FYI for those making this block - your middle piece MUST be 1/4" wider than the other two pieces of fabric. So... if you are using 5 X 10 for the two outside pieces, your middle piece must be 5 1/4 X 10 for this technique to work. Why it has not been corrected on the video after all this time I do not know. But I wanted to restate this (others have done so in the comments in past months and years, but it bears repeating every so often so folks see it before cutting up and wasting fabric.)

Each quilt requires different sizes of squares/rectangles to make the blocks. There are 12 different quilts in the book, plus the bonus of different settings. To get you started, the blue/green quilt on the video used 5 1/4" x 10" for large blocks or 2 7/8" x 5 1/4" for small blocks. Enjoy and thanks for asking. The book with variations will be available August 1st on the Design Originals website.

I've just stumbled on this video. I love anything made easy or easier. I relly like the way it is a straight stitch but looks curved. I am going to make this smaller. Are there specific ratios of the inner diamone piece to the two outer fabrics? Thanks Dee
@Sasslette10 жыл бұрын
2 outside pieces measure 5in x 10in ( you could cut a layer cake in half) For the middle piece to work needs to be 51/4in wide by 10 in long. No matter what size the two outside pieces are the middle must be 1/4 in wider to work properly. E.G. 2 of 6" x 12' and one 61/4' x 12".

There are several different sizes of blocks and quilts that can be done with this technique. All of the accurate dimensions are listed in each book. I intentionally planned for the point to not exactly touch the next seam, especially for beginning quilters... it is easier for them to have a tiny space after the point than to run the risk of catching the point inside the seam.If you are more experienced the pieces can be adjusted as desired.
@onaemtnest11 жыл бұрын

OK I tried the pattern BUT you have to make the block you fold in half a 1/4" wider or when you turn it to make the triangle the top part comes out 1/4" short. I don't understand why you don't show that. OR am I doing something wrong? Great block. thanks
@designoriginals12312 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry, did they offer to backorder for you?
@agventure111 жыл бұрын
We had trouble with it because we used 5x7 pieces and the triangular piece hung down below the bottom of the larger main piece. Also the bottom points of the triangle did not meet the outside edges of the large main block. We found the pieces had to be at least 4x8 for it to work right for us. I'm wondering if it has to be even measured pieces, not 5x7 or 8x11. Try it with paper or scraps before you cut your pieces for this one!

i cut my fabric 4 1/4 by 8 and and 4 x 8. the triangle came out ok meeting at top... but when i tried to sew the blocks together in a pinwheel, i found that i had to cut 1/2 inch from length to make them fit and be the same size. What did i do wrong?
@josellemarsh224312 жыл бұрын
I did this but after I stitched one seam and open it up to the (small folded blue block) the middle block had extra fabric that needed to be trimmed off, why? What size are your 3 strip blocks ??

@jacquelineemond50129 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused. Why the 1/4 gap at the bottom? (triangle). When I piece the 3 together, I have this 1/4 in. gap. Does this mean I have to square all blocks before sewing? This can change the size of the blanket considerably. Unless there is something I didn't understand. I did exactly what you said on the video....
@Murnas19 жыл бұрын
Jacqueline Emond Linda Smith posted above that you need to cut the middle piece wider by the amount of the seam allowance. I cut up a bunch and the middle piece is like your...1/4" off at the top/bottom however you look at it. I can't find anywhere in the book that it states that. Grrrr
