In the starting position, isn't Bxb6 better for black?! g1N+, Kf2. Black doesn't have checks.

Your notation is upside-down. If Bxg3 Kg2 escapes the mate threat. Qf2+ Kh3 and black doesnt have any more checks. The knight covers h2 and the other knigh f1. And probably promoting to a knight also wins. After king c7 there is Rxc5+ for example probably leading to mate.
