I have a recommendation- please be careful not to make the mistake I did. I washed my 4c hair daily & it thrived- achieved thick waist length hair. Recently, I had a major hair setback: lost half of my density & 4 inches. It was so subtle I didn’t notice until it had wreaked havoc on my strands. I had hard water. Guarantee that's why the black hair myths are kept up. Even the "experts" are repeating them to us.
@BrighteStarProdInc19 күн бұрын
Hair grows an average of 1/2 inch per month. In 5 months that would be 2.5 inches. With trims and cuts and with coiling that's not a huge length difference. Your hair looks thick and healthy. I wash my hair daily. I have to cut if regularly to maintain the very short natural style that I wear. When I was a kid, my sister and I would swim everyday, so we had to wash the chlorine out. Our hair recovered length and density in one summer from the breakage and damage of having it hot combed the whole previous school year. When my daughter was in preschool, she would come home with sand in her hair daily, so washing it daily became the routine. My coworker called her "Rapunzel" the first time she saw her waist length hair. Water is hydration. Our hair loves hydration. So thank you for this video!! It dispels the myth.

I usually wash my hair every two weeks or every week depending on lifestyle, season and my mental health. My hair doesn't like to be stripped too often. If there's one thing I've learned growing up is my hair likes a lil dirt (jk) but no lie, my hair does best when I allow it some days to just be. My hair loves its natural oils. I still give it moisture but I've definitely found this to be the regimen that works for me and has grown my hair exponentially. Shampooing every day would make my hair so sad! It's so cool tho that's it's making yours feel so good! I've definitely been inspired tho to alter my washing schedule at least my summer schedule. I've been sweating more in this heat while gardening so I think I might try washing my hair 1-2x a week and maybe allowing a rinse/co-wash on necessary days. I think it helps that I have my hair in two strand twists (cuz it means I can wash my hair without retwist if needed). Thank you for trying out this experiment and sharing it with us! I understand the feeling of lots of rules in the natural hair community. I personally feel like people can have fun and try things, just be safe and informed. Ignorance is not bliss. Convenient styles are not protective styles if they cause damage and give you fibroids later in life. That's why I'm loving this journey. My hair is actually the healthiest it's ever been. It's thriving! And gurl you're thriving! You glow in every video ✨️💛

Also do you find you’re hair is retaining length without the protective styles? I hate protective styles I’m currently wearing only the ones with my natural hair, I’d love to go with my hair out fully but im worried about length retention since im at twa stage xx feel free to make a video about it if that’s better but I’d love your opinion! Xx
@EvieAswiti6 ай бұрын
@Zowgie My hair is growing out pretty well. I can’t complain about the length retention, in fact I think since my hair is exposed to sunlight, water and my diet is good, there’s a less chance of it breaking off due to dryness, other stressors etc. I think I’ll do a video about length in the future, it might make sense when my hair is straightened so y’all can see it.

I have to wash my hair every day if I go swimming. Chlorine and salt are not things to remain in my hair. I'm not swimming at the moment as I've changed up my routine. Usually, I have no problems hoping in the shower multiple times a week with a co-wash, swimmer shampoo or a sulfate-free shampoo. I don't use the sulfate every day because that definitely dries my hair and sensitive scalp out. My trichologists didn't recommend that for my scalp so I'm not doing that. Otherwise, I am not one of those black women who run from water. Lol! I could never be a straight-hair natural. Lol! I like swimming too much. Lol!

Do you have any suggestions on what to do with your hair if it gets matted? I’ve started washing everyday but my hair becomes matted after drying no matter how much I detangle. I have THICK hair. This is my first time wearing natural hair since actually caring for my hair so I’m not used to it having any length (it’s shoulder length stretched at the longest parts.) At this point I’m thinking about cutting it or only wearing my hair in cornrows.

Are you putting product in your hair? You might need a good leave in conditioner.

@@christinavmillsI use the Carols Daughter Goddess Strength shampoo, conditioner, and leave in every time I wash my hair. It always looks awesome until it dries. It’s almost like my hair wants to loc up.

@@twcrazy Yeah… I actually wore locs for some time for literally that reason before I shaved my head and started over. It really does takes a lot of effort to keep hair loose as it gets longer

So I really recommend putting some sort of oil after your leave in conditioner when washing. Have you tried that and it still matts?
