To expand upon the 'danger' part of the #1 spot without getting wordy: *spoiler alert* The argument can absolutely be made that realistic LARP blasters are also dangerous; whether in public or not, and you wouldn't be wrong. My view on this is that people who do the realistic LARP builds have a better understanding of how to handle, hide, and/or transport their stuff through public and are much less likely to pull out their blaster in a public space. All black blasters are majorly more popular to those who want 'realism' fast, as shown from sites like eBay, and from internet content like KZbin tutorials, which means there is a higher chance of those being the problem starters... at least from how I see things.

IAmBobololo I’m a part of a few fb groups and honestly the amount of people that freak the fuck out Over a small amount of black on a blaster is kinda ridiculous. LARPers have been moving faux-weapons through public spaces for decades. We've learned to be Safer and Smarter than we used to be and for good reasons! A lot of us learned important lessons from Re-enactors and cosplayers, as well. Nerf is a much younger hobby and its participants tend to be on the younger side, too, with a bell curve centered around the early and mid twenties. The amount of experience tends to be in range of a few years with pretty short lived lifespans on being "Serious" in the hobby where as LARP and Cosplay and Re-enacting tend to be in it for decades. Not hating on Nerf, it's a different hobby with different measurements that's fine. But it means the hobby can't rely as heavily as the others mentioned on people having a higher average time in and age. LARP, Re-enacting, and Cosplay tend to have their own recursive community standards checks, even if those are imho woefully inconsistent and poorly handled. Nerf is kinda still a "Do what you want" world which can be freeing but also risky.

@@southpawairsofter I agree with you. Black is such a great color to combo with, adds depth, increases the pop, and goes well with any other colors basically. But woooweee do people go ballistic on it at times; even just shouting ORANGE TIP at the sight. There's a clear line, in my book, where it becomes obviously too much. Everyone's line is different though

I have to disagree with #2 (photoshopping). My edit would be: don't do it if you don't know what you're doing (in photoshop). What I mean has to do with proportions. The best way to maintain proportions is to put the blasters you want to use on a pegboard next to each other and take a picture of them in the same frame. As long as you don't scale anything, you won't have problems. But I used photoshop to previsualize my last integration and I would say it was invaluable to the fabrication process. It prevented me from wasting a lot of time with ideas the wouldn't have worked and helped me start the project with a better sense of direction. It works really well in my opinion.... again, if you know what you're doing in photoshop.

One prominent nerfer who seems to use a lot of black is Captain X, although his look seems to be a reverse sort of "Gear up" coloration, depending on the build. Still, some of his builds and paint jobs are largely painted plain black and the other main color being orange is quite subtle, depending on the blaster. It could sometimes be the case that people take inspiration from watching videos such as some of those more popular build overviews/tutorials and try to make something similar.

One thing I'd love to stop seeing (mostly on the reddit) is "Sniper". I don't know why it gets to me so much. Mostly the people who want a sniper rifle from CoD and whatnot. I get the "I wanna feel like a badass" thing, but long barreled bolt actions don't make the best blaster. The other thing that gets to me (again mostly on the reddit) is people complaining about prices of custom/special parts. If it's just "the guy in his garage" making things, of course it'll be expensive. Quality costs time and money. "If you don't value your time, no one will." I've got two blasters I'm developing and once I make them ill gladly tell people what I'd charge them if they want to buy them; but a lot of people won't like the price point. That's OK though. I'm mostly developing these two blasters because they simply don't exist and I've always wanted them. Sorry for such a long comment. Love you my dude.

My biggest gripe is the Gatekeeping that always occurs by the section of the hobby that does HPA. I'd personally like to learn HPA, and how to build a good HPA blaster. But that's not going to happen anytime soon as it's very secretive.....so I'm probaly gonna have to buy an HPA blaster from someone and figure it out on my own.
@builderbb8767
@builderbb8767 4 жыл бұрын
r/HPAnerf it's not so secretive anymore but you won't be handed a kit. It's also not something you can use outside of private/paintball fields so other than fun in the backyard it's got no place in public Nerf wars because of actual laws

High Pressure Airheads group on Facebook is an excellent resource. Also, the recent stream by Liam and Ryan was very informative. Google how a QEV works, as that's the primary component of most air blaster setups. Once you can understand that, it gets a lot easier from there. Double check local laws regarding paintball tanks. Some places allow them, others don't. And remember, the only difference between HPA and LPA is the energy storage system: the actual usage pressure inside the blaster is usually the same (between 0-100psi). Most LPA systems use a pump or compressor to create the system blaster, whereas HPA just draws the system pressure from a stored source. But you could easily connect an LPA blaster to a HPA tank, or vice versa. Check out Monkeytron Collective's Longshot build on KZbin: can be run from either a compressor or a HPA tank

My way of taking care of hot glue is to just remove it in general. I've found that if some hot glue is really stuck from the planning/layout stages of an integration that spraying it with glass cleaner helps to make it hold less to the plastic, and it's easy to peel off.

One thing I could certainly list that I am surprised you haven't is when people paint over a blaster without taking it apart. It's generally a bad idea because depending on the blaster, paint could gum up in some areas that could impede the function of the blaster. I can understand being new to modding and being afraid you may lose some parts and/or being unsure you can reassemble it when you're done. I know the feeling because I once had it myself and with some blasters, namely the Revonix 360, I still do. However, if I couldn't be bothered to take a blaster apart, then I simply wouldn't paint it.

@@scottjs5207 My sympathies to you. Fortunately, I don't think you'll have many issues fixing that. I hope you get that sorted out. I bought a camouflage Recon last year and I love it to death, however, the seller just painted over it without taking it apart. Although it functions just fine, my issue with this one is when I take the slide off, there is an area where the paint didn't even cover. Considering I am planning to get a pump grip for it, which requires I take the slide off completely, that's going to be a problem. Not the worst thing in the world, but it is yet another example of why I wish people would stop doing this. Not sure how I am going to paint over that without it looking "off" from the rest of the blaster's paint job, but I am sure I'll figure it out. It's going to get Retaliator internals eventually.

Agreed on the black blasters thing. Now, with Airsoft it’s different because Airsoft is required to be played at sanctioned private fields or property, as high velocity bbs are not nearly as safe as foam. They’re even illegal to have outside at all unless you’re on private property. And even then, a lot of cops don’t trust them on Airsoft replicas because they’re so realistic sometimes, usually they check down the magwell, or look at the internals somehow. So external safety markings are neither required (once you own the Airsoft gun) or useful for Airsoft guns. But with nerf??? Absolutely a bad idea to make it look like a firearm (for regular public nerf events) since most events are held publicly in some sort of area where its not normally just a nerf field. It’d be different if there were sanctioned private fields or facilities. For example, in Georgia there’s SS Airsoft, which just started doing nerf events last year. That place would be absolutely safe for real steel nerf builds.

Don't like it when people take the time to comment about a video or mod and just say "cool". The OP would appreciate it more if you specify what you think is cool or something other than "cool", "awesome", "neat", or "nice". Doesn't really mean much. Hate it when people show off the same thing over and over and over again. People do it all the time in discord servers and it gets annoying. Also hate when people act like they've done something when they just add an attachment or 2. There will be a post with a billion pictures of the same blaster with various attachments and the OP will ask "Which one's your favorite?". Cool vid

Feet and shoes in pictures always sort of bothers me too. Especially if it's bare feet. I always tend to take the time to make sure my feet are out of frame, as a result. I also personally take care to make epoxy putty look good. It just takes time with sandpaper and a file, or even just a knife if it hasn't fully set up or it's a small section. It's not that hard, you're going to be sanding anyway to get paint to stick, so you might as well make sure it's mostly flat.

I strongly disagree on the black blasters thing.As long as people keep them in privat they can stay as long as ever.There is a large pile of people who like to use clean, good looking black painted nerf-blasters for larp or private indoor play and don´t want their blasters to be painted in a colour they don´t even like, such as pink or lite brown. There are a lot of people who paint their blasters in dark colours, which is just as bad as black paintjobs, but they are not targeted because "they didn´t paint their blaster in noob-black" although they defiently look like a firearm. Lastly, not everybody is interrested in rustic paint jobs for larps.Some people, like me, genuiently like a black paint job for a certain larp style they attend and, if they take safety percausians and keep their blasters hidden from publicity, are allowed to paint their blasters black. Besides, black paint jobs often create a cleaner and more interresting visual image than some of the really colourful blasters, that honestly have so disturbed colour contrastes that one was better of respraying the whole thing in white base coat.

Here's my two cents: the biggest thing that bothers me is when people don't know what they are talking about. Referring to the blaster as a "gun" or the darts as "bullets". I think you already touched on this one @IAmBobololo. It's one thing to be new to the hobby, but take the time and study the language adopted by the rest of the hobby

I have a very different stance on the whole "blaster not g*n" deal. I do believe in context of a public park or other property a person should never use the g word even if they are a concealed carry holder not involved in Nerf but there's so many contrivances with it. I've brought it up to people who have nothing to do with Nerf and unlike car culture or sports, they just look at me confused as to why that's even a thing. We still use the terms Minigun, SMG, and shotgun for crying out load, if anything, I don't think the hobby space is committed enough, but I also hate it when someone gets on my case for slipping in the g word at a private event with no threat of misunderstanding what I'm referring to. Even Drac still uses the term and he's been in the hobby how long? Sorry for sounding ranting, I just like discussing stuff.
