Most people who slag Birmingham off have never been there. The people of Birmingham have been knocked down so many times but we just get back up and carry on. Unlike certain other cities we don't squeal and blame others. Birmingham led the Industrial Revolution not just in this country but the World. It had and probably still has the most skilled people in this country.

I've always wanted to move there and I felt that this might even be a better choice rather than London. Green areas, prospective Uni, solid PT, I would have probably stayed there for a while despite the obvious problems UK cities have.

I was glad to leave Birmingham in 2016. When I moved there with my family back in 1989, it was lovely. There was plenty of green space, people were friendly, people had respect for historical buildings, etc. But by the time I left, many of the listed buildings had been unlisted & demolished, green space was reducing, people weren't friendly anymore, & "progress" now means a lack of respect for history. I have no desire to go back. Despite London creating difficulty for getting around due to my disabilities & there being so many people in London, I'd much rather go to London than go back to Birmingham.

I'm from Bristol, but lived and worked in Bradford for four years in the early seventies. I never had any problems there and liked both the town and its people. If I had to choose between London and Bradford, I'd opt for Bradford every time. The surrounding Pennine countryside is magnificent.

I worked in Bradford for 20 years, retired 7 years ago. The 5 mile commute took 45 minutes by car due to poor road networks and expensive public transport. It’s not a place you ever feel safe, more than one person in the office was mugged at lunchtime and thefts from cars in our car park was a weekly event. In the 7 years since I stopped working there, I have been in twice - not by choice. It absolutely deserves the tag of worst city, bereft of any redeeming features.

Hull is divided by the River Hull, east and west banks. East Hull is grim but West Hull is lovely, Willerby, Kirk Ella, Swanland. Entering Hull via the magnificent Humber Bridge is really very nice - wide tree lined roads. The centre of Hull needs a rebuild.

But I had many fond memories of smethwick.plenty of work my dad worked at the huge Birmid complex on dartmore road.my nan and grandad lived opposite the district iron and steel works on brasshouse lane just down the road from the Hawthorns.home ground and hallowed turf of the great Baggies. Not all of it’s near Kent and not all of it it’s a dump either. I think that some people dislike our mayor (I don’t think much of him either) and they assume that London is twinned with Islamabad. I'd love to know where you get your statistical information about Hull from. I've never heard so much tosh. The city has taken a slow road to recovery after its lifeblood industry was ripped away from it in the 1970s - but the one advantage of that is that the city centre no longer smells of fish! We have a highly regarded university and many graduates, from all over the country and beyond, choose to stay beyond their degrees. The city gets slandered through ignorance. We are not on the way to anywhere else; you're either coming to Hull or you're not; so those who have not been and have no reason to come, find it easier to slag the city off. I find it very odd that Hull and Birmingham are on this list whilst Manchester (which is a total armpit) is not.

I've never been to Hull but i've never wanted to leave a city more than Birmingham, it's so bleak and ugly. Whilst Manchester probably should've been on here, I don't really find it as bad. I remember going once to a concert in the Cricket Ground and it was so empty, like no cars and barely any people, felt like a scene in 28 Days Later. If you find it odd that Birmingham is on this list, then god may have peace upon your soul.

Hull is a city with potential, if the city centre has more put into it in terms of repairing old buildings (which is currently underway), attracting businesses and providing more job opportunities the City would grow rapidly. East Park is beautiful as is the Humber bridge country Park. The New theatre is fantastic, and the town hall is beautiful. I moved to the area a year ago, and it reminds me of what Newcastle was like in the early 2000s and look how much that has developed and changed.

Birmingham as any other City in the UK has experienced much change, some good some bad, just a natural progression through the different cycles, I dont know what year your talking about but you imagine the 80s onwards & Birmingham had massive employers like IMI in Witton, Leyland in Longbridge, Cadburys in Bournville, Horizon travel HQ on the Broad St, Lucas plants & factories throughout the City, Dunlop tyres in Erdington, LDV vans in Washwood Heath, Metro Cammel train makers in Washwood Heath, Ansells brewery in Aston HP sauce in Aston, the Birmingham mint in Hockley where Britain's money was made, GKN osram again across the city, Severn Trent water in Sheldon, there are countless other companies that 1 by 1 dwindled away, + the brain drain down to the smoke, they didn't even leave those of us with a sweet tooth as finally Cadburys went to an American company for something like 13 billion quid, oh & where was Cadburys mentioned during the games 🤔,they said production of chocolates would remain in Birmingham but more lies, you see when the bull came out it was Birmingham saying to the World its reinvented itself & does not support or is in any way a representative of the greedy bullish lying selfish regime that gradually siphoned of all that made it the City it was, thats why crime rocketed, if people are hungry or encouraged by a system that is greedy they will steal, of course there is no justification for crime but this means crime all over, there ain't no rule for 1 & 1 for another & if you visited Birmingham throughout the games you will have heard of very little crime whatsoever, the Police were as tourist enjoying the vibe of a City that reflects a direction the Country will head & things will get a whole lot better for all of us I assure you , we will never go back to that shackle & chains & greedy selfish ideology. I hope you understand & GOD bless you 💚

We drove straight back out again and went for a nice quiet meal out of town. Birmingham, (once a great city), like the majority of large British cities was systematically trashed from the 1960’s on and has never fully recovered. Most U.K. cities are full of cheap, ugly, built to the lowest budget, trashy modern buildings that make them so depressing. By far the nicest ate the smaller cities e.g. Oxford, Cambridge, Bath, Winchester etc. that have managed to remain more human without trashing their historic centres.

Sorry one can tell be his accent the commentary is done by a southerner hence his bias the true most hated cities in Britain by those not living there 5.... Stoke on Trent...it not really one city its 7 towns put together hence its not like a real city. 4 .... Brighton even the beach is large stones full of trendy hippies and drunk Londoners 3 .... Milton Keynes never go without good GPS, every road looks the same. Take a sick bag you'll get dizzy going round the roundabouts. It most famous feature = concrete cows.... enough said. 2 Manchester.... just try driving into Manchester or even going by train you'll hate the journey. The only city center that has large plot of land that have been temporary car parking for 40 years. 1 London overcrowded expensive dirty outside the tourist areas.

I'm from Liverpool and lived in Birmingham for over 20 years and commuted to work in Coventry every day. Coventry is a badly designed modern City with some but, little heritage due to WWII bombing and loses out to Birmingham it's close neighbour. Liverpool is infact one of the safest Cities in Europe from statistics showing safe and unsafe cities. It is below Manchester which is one of the highest crime rates. Also below London and Birmingham. If I'm not mistaken it is the 17th lowest crime rate in the UK...that's below most if not all Metripolitan Citues and other Cities in the UK. Birmingham is a vibrant City as is Liverpool. The days when Birmingham was strangled by the Bournville /Cadbury family preventing bars, pubs or clubs to expand are well and truly over. It has more miles of Cannals than Venice (but maybe not as beautiful) there are lots of greenery with many commons rather than Parks but it has parks too. If you are looking for heritage then Birmingham has less to offer but as a modern city it has plenty. Bradford I found to be depressing and dull. Decided not to go to the University there because of the City. Hull has plenty of heritage but it's bad reputation of crime, exenaphonia, homophobia and racisum is something to keep away from.

So there not as out of date as implied by your comment of 20 years. Those would have been taken into consideration when I checked the stats. Again I emphasis Liverpool has one of the lowest crime and serious crime rates in the UK.

Bradford needs investment and is a result of many decades of poor investment into the City, although this started to change after the 2001 riots and with the help of a Labour Government in charge, after the Conservatives came back to power in 2010 everything went downhill yet again. I will give you an example, in 2013, I would have been 11, there were three - four youth clubs on my estate of Buttershaw, back then crime committed by youths were declining. By 2016 there was only one youth club remaining and by the time that I am writing this in 2022 there is no longer a single youth club in the estate. I have witnessed the increased drug usage among youths and because the young population is bored, they are commiting crime and getting involved in organised crime like never before. The problem here isn't the people or the local government that keeps getting funding cut, it's the investment from the Government to services across the City, Bradford has the youngest City in the UK yet the investment by the Government into the City keeps getting cut. Now with the pressures of the Cost of Living Crisis things are getting worse. Instead of making a video about the most Hated Cities in the UK and placing an image of Bradford as the thumbnail, maybe you need to recognise the wrongs that are going on in Bradford at a Governmental level. Educate yourselves, you don't even need to go to Bradford to look at the problems which could be alleviated with the proper funding. Why don't you see for yourselves in the latest documentary by the BBC about the services within Bradford here... www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00184w4/bradford-on-duty-series-1-1-levelling-up a documentary that looks at the lives of those who are trying the fix the problems with Bradford with an ever decreasing budget. By saying Bradford is the most hated City in the UK, is saying that you just take things at face value and do not look at the underlying issues that are causing this in the seventh most populous and the youngest City in the UK.
@davidreed9671
@davidreed9671 2 жыл бұрын
Bradford cannot be fixed. Youngest city because of the high birth rate among the asian population and large influx of recent immigrants from everywhere in the world. Just let then get on with it and allow Ilkley and the other towns in the Bradford metropolitan area to form a new district.

I agree with all these places being on your list except Bradford - a few people smoking weed doesn't make a place unsafe - that is just ignorant. But why is the list so short? We have so many diabolical messed up cities. Birmingham and Hull would be near the top of mine for their accents alone. Leeds has shocking back-to-back ghettoes, Middlesborough Portsmouth Northampton Luton and Sunderland are just dreary, Sheffield is bleak and rude, Manchester has the worst weather, Plymouth is like the Village of the Damned. Durham and Brighton are ruined by stuck up people and general meanness and of course London isn't even an English city - so doesn't count. Believe me I could go on.
