I'm one of the unlucky ones. There used to be three houses on my block. It was peaceful and quiet. Then the entire street became houses. I hit the lotto when it comes to noise. The kids next door can scream until two in the morning in their pool if they want. I'll take the old staten island any day.

I grew up in Prince's Bay on the dead end part of Wheeling Ave. Great neighborhood. Sadly I had to move to Pennsylvania 24yrs ago to take care of my parents when they got older. S. I. is great because you are only about 1 hour from NYC on the train and Ferry. You can enjoy the craziness of NYC and go back to the suburbs of the south shore. I got homesick watching this video. I still 💗S. I.

Hi Edward Carloni! Do you remember me Mike Cialone ? We went to a men's retreat upstate NY back in 1987 or 1988? We stopped in Connecticut first and than drove to Silver Bay NY. I am still on Staten Island

@@michaelciccone2194 You have me confused with someone else. However I do have 2 brothers Michael, he has passed away and another brother John. John is most likely to have gone to a mens retreat. I assume it's a religious retreat. Good to hear from an Islander anyway

@@michaelciccone2194 Yes John is still alive and lives nearby in Lancaster PA. I remember when the cleaners was a candy store. My mom was the tailor for A+M cleaners. Princes Bay was a great neighborhood, too crowded and expensive for me now.

@@edwardcarloni6356 I have contact John ,! I know people in New Holland. What a small world! Your mother knew John and his wife Betty..his mother worked there too. John asked me if I would like to do tailoring circa 1987..I declined as I was working in NJ. Your mom has many happy memories! His kids pitched in too and the two pugs. Never knew it was a candy shop at one time. The house was ancient ! Yes...Bocce's was across the street and superette comes back to mind. Young guys from Elizabeth Street hung out there too. I remember one guy who had this long hair --looked like a rock musician. John's other dry cleaners in Tottenville now a pizza place..49 seguine is now a barber shop. High price houses were built were Vastano's dentist office used to be across from old superette. Any news from the Pietrangelos? I think they moved to Hazlet NJ. Nice video, George! As a Long Islander considering a move to Staten Island for a number of reasons, I am surprised how suburban, and in some places even rural it is there. Hard to believe it's part of NYC. Seems like there are plenty of homes with nice pieces of property. Your videos have been helpful. Thank you!

I’m surprised you only named one north shore neighborhood; considering you live on the north shore. What about Silver Lake, Randall Manor, Livingston or Meirer’s Corners. Also, West Brighton is a huge neighborhood with many beautiful middle class and upper class areas. Yes; there are some sketchy sections, but all in all West Brighton has a lot of positives. In Mid- Island you have Grant City, New Dorp and Oakwood; all of which are beautiful neighborhoods.

I lived on the upper part of Kingsley Ave between Manor Rd and Brookside Dr. I wonder if Givens ( or as we used to call it , Buds) grocery store is still there. That was ( is ?) across the street from The Armory on Manor rd. I remember being at that armory as a kid and they were having some sort of event where they were showing off the tanks and jeeps etc. Might have been Veterans or Memorial day . Some of the kids were hanging on to the wrought iron fence as the tanks were exiting to the street . One of those tanks swung its turret around and the gun barrel hit the brick pillar attached to the fence and knocked it down killing one or two of those kids. I'll never forget that.

Born and raised on the rock. There's no denying that the island as gone to s**t over the past few years. The attitudes of the people are nasty. Most have that "me first" or "I'm better then you" mentality. It's all about money to most. It's sad especially since my family goes back to the Dutch settlement. I always figured I'd live my entire life on the island, Now that's a sickening prospective. Real estate is through the roof, it takes a hour to get anywhere, the road conditions are horrific, violence and drugs are out of hand. Once I moved near the jersey shore I knew I'd never go back. Most people are just genuinely nicer. I understand that not everyone on the island is bad. There's probably more good then bad but it's those a-holes that ruin it for the rest of us. I've realized there's 2 nice times to be on the island.. early Sunday mornings and during national disasters such as hurricanes, blizzards etc. because there's very little people out. Oddly enough during sadly people were very nice to each other then it all disappeared.
