My FiiO X1 ii still sound amazing with my 14mm planar iem's, and I can connect it to an amp using the now adjustable 1,7Vrms nominal output. I highly doubt there's a dap that can beat it in 2024 for $129.

I realize commenting this on a channel like this one is like a duck choosing to float along pirhana-infested waters, but what's the difference between one of these devices and simply using one's phone to play audio files or stream music? Does it mostly have to do with how the audio is processed and output, and is that difference only something you'll be able to hear on a higher-end set of headphones or speakers, or is there something else to it I don't understand?

I had two of the Fiio players quit on me. Neither one lasted more than three months one had a button fail, and the other would not recognize the SD card. Also, the unit would freeze continually. never buying them again to many other quslity produckt to choose from that haven't let me down twice. I did those reviews on KZbin by the way and showed the broken products. I was so proud when I got the first one at seven when that turd broke I got the 11 when that turd broke. I told the Enta wouldn't be buying anymore. lol

The original M11 is outdated since years, you are reviewing the wrong DAP, also the wrong link! The current models are the M11s and the M11 Plus (which i own myself), both with ESS-DACs..

The Hidisz is about 200 bucks and its very good, Hiby has the r3 about the same price, they both stream Tidal and Qobuz as well.

Daps are overpriced unreasonable. it lacks no many components of smartphone that makes smartphone expensive, audio circuit should not be so expensive. these audiophile branded shit are so expensive, you can buy best headphone, good studio monitors, good amp (if passive monitors) and sound card and will be under budget vs "audiophile" amp or whatever. Getting good headphones should be enough for better experience for portable devices. and it does not make huge experience just play wav and flac in Beyerdinamics / Sennhiser headhones.

It’s totally stupid to buy any of these in 2023 or in future . Just buy a good mid range smart phone , Apple Music Lossless plan or any other equivalent plan , a type c to 3.5mm Jack , and chifi *kz/7Hz/CCA* normal price wired IEM = you are good to go = music quality more than a human ear can afford to hear 😂

You can't hook up a smart phone to an amp or active 2.0/2.1 speaker/system via wire and get a decent sound though.. maybe through Bluetooth (but it depends on the codec support & implementation). You still get better sound & volume with an old FiiO X1 ii at 1,7Vrms nominal output via 3,5mm wire. I'd recommend these 14mm planar iem's for hi res music on the go: TinHifi P1 Max at $99
